7 RESOURCES AND CAPABILITIES France presents strong potential for marine energy and capabilities to develop commercially the tidal sector French resources for tidal are between 5 and 14 TWh/year (equivalent to a capacity installed between 3 and 5 GW) divided on 5 sites: Raz Blanchard (3 GW) Raz de Barfleur Passage du Fromveur (300 MW) Chaussée de Sein Héaux de Bréhat Brest Cherbourg 10 GW potential for wave in France Port installations Brest: investment of 220 M to make the port a reference site in marine renewable energies Cherbourg: investment of 100+ M to strengthen the port capabilities All Energy Wave and tidal energies in France 05/05/2016 7

8 POLICY French government defined ambitious objectives to develop renewable energies and in particular marine renewable energies Law about the energy transition (2015): NON-BINDING Objective: renewable energies to represent 23% of the gross final energy consumption in 2020, and 32% in 2030 The objectives of the multiannual program for action in the field of energy (PPE) and the multiannual program for investment of electricity (PPI) for the marine energies (floating wind turbine, tidal, etc.) are: Installed capacity (MW) 100 MW installed on 31 December 2023 Additional projects with a capacity between 200 and 2000 MW, depending on the pilot farm feedback and on the price There will be a call for projects in the beginning of 2019 with an attribution in the beginning of High scenario Low scenario Horizon 2030 Year The feed-in tariff is 173 /MWh for the tidal pilot farm from the ADEME call for expression of interest (AMI) of All Energy Wave and tidal energies in France 05/05/2016 8

11 CURRENT CALL FOR PROJECTS First part of the ADEME call for projects (AAP) 2015: innovative tidal and wave prototypes Turbine or WEC with a capacity of over 250 MWh/year Deadline: 20 March 2017 Second part of the ADEME call for projects (AAP) 2015: critical technological components for marine renewable energies (tidal, wave, floating turbine) Electrical equipment, anchoring, floating structures, installation, power-take-off, etc. Project with TRL over 6 Deadline: 20 March 2017 Third part of the ADEME call for projects (AAP) 2015: tidal demonstration projects in river or estuary At least 5 turbines with a minimum capacity of 30 kw The farm will be connected to the power grid Tidal turbines will have to be tested before the pilot farm Deadline: 19 September 2016 ANR FEM call for projects (AAP) 2016: marine renewable energy project Total budget of 3 M Deadline: 22 April 2016 All Energy Wave and tidal energies in France 05/05/

13 FRENCH PROJECTS France is the 2nd country in the world for the number of tidal projects. Tidal projects: Paimpol-Bréhat Brittany: OpenHydro: Deployment of the first turbine in 2015 (0.5 MW) OpenHydro: Deployment of the second turbine will be in 2016 (0.5 MW) HydroQuest: Deployment of the first turbine in 2017 Brest North Ushant Brittany: Sabella D10 (1 MW): connection of the first tidal turbine to the French power grid in 2015 Sabella D15 (8 MW): deployment in 2018 (not consented, delay expected) All Energy Wave and tidal energies in France 05/05/

14 FRENCH PROJECTS Cherbourg Tidal projects: Demonstration project Nepthyd (Engie/GE Renewable) Normandy 5.6 MW planned to be deployed in Raz Blanchard in 2018 Demonstration project NORMANDIE HYDRO (EDF EN/DCNS) Normandy 14 MW planned to be deployed in Raz Blanchard in 2018 FAB link project An electrical interconnector underwater will be de constructed from 2018 between France, Alderney and Britain It will provide a route to market for marine renewable energy around Alderney (Raz Blanchard) There are few projects about wave energy in France GEPS TECHNO A WEC operating and they are planning to test a prototype in SEM-REV Wattmor project (aborted?)
