2 Option 1 WLC-booked Student Hostels The College can arrange shared hostel accommodation with one of thirteen London Hostel Association residences. Hostel accommodation is good value, all-inclusive and the hostels are conveniently located in central London (travel zones 1-3). They provide a clean, secure living environment & are ideal for students new to London. Hostel accommodation is subject to availability and if your first choice is not available, the College will endeavour to book a suitable alternative. The weekly rate is per person and includes a continental breakfast and an evening meal on weekdays, with a cooked breakfast and an evening meal at weekends. The hostel provides a variety of dishes each mealtime, with at least one vegetarian option always available. The College makes hostel bookings for an initial period of three weeks. If you would like to stay longer you will have the opportunity to extend your booking on arrival. If you are looking for a shorter booking please contact the College for advice. When you arrive at the hostel you will be asked to pay a 200 booking deposit (if not already paid on your behalf by the College) and a 30 deposit for your key. These deposits will be refunded when you leave provided you: cause no damage. give 7 days notice of your intention to leave the room. return your room key at the end of your stay. You will also be asked to pay for your accommodation booking. There is a 400 minimum deposit needed. You will be provided with a confirmation letter via , once we have confirmed your booking. You can show this to the Hostel reception when you arrive. Making a booking If you would like the College to book hostel accommodation for you, please complete the WLC Accommodation Booking Form (at the back of the WLC Arrival Pack) and return it to us. The College can only accept requests for accommodation once your visa and travel arrangements have been finalised. When we have confirmed your hostel booking, we will send you (by ) a reservation confirmation and directions to your accommodation. NB. 3 Option 2 Other Student Hostels & Residences Alternative General Hostel Provider International Student House ISH is a charity dedicated to British and International students in London. They offer students long and short stay accommodation at their location in Great Portland Street W1W, near Regent s Park. 5 Option 3 Homestay Accommodation For students who are studying on an English Language Course, we also offer Homestay accommodation. Living with a British family is a good option for those wishing to improve their English and learn more about British culture. Families can help students familiarise themselves with London and can provide comfortable accommodation within easy travelling distance of the College. If you would like to book homestay accommodation we will need to find out a little more about your requirements. For example, whether you would prefer to stay in a smoking or non-smoking house or whether you have any special meal requirements. On your booking form, please give us an address and telephone number so we can contact you to discuss this. Location: Our families are located in Zones 2-5. All hosts are within reasonable and safe walking distance from a train or underground station. Travel Time: Average journey time to/from school is 45 minutes by public transport. Your Room: A comfortable and simply furnished room contains a desk and storage space for your clothes. Bed linen is provided by the host. Your host will clean your room, but you should keep it neat and tidy too by making your own bed and putting your clothes away. Meal Plans: Half board: breakfast and evening meal included daily (cooking facilities not included, access to these is at the host s discretion). Breakfast only: cooking facilities not included, access to these is at the host s discretion. Board type most suitable for students that like to eat out in the evening. Self-catering: no meals provided, full use of kitchen facilities provided by the homestay. Breakfast is not usually cooked: It is often toast and marmalade, cereal, fruit juice and tea or coffee. Dinner is the main meal of the day and should include meat, fish or poultry, unless you have asked in your application form for vegetarian meals. Special dietary requirements available on request. Please inform the school at the time of the booking. Laundry: Students should be able to do one washing machine load of laundry per week. Please discuss with your host whether you should do it yourself in their machine or whether they will do it for you. Baths and showers: Everyone in the family needs to use the bathroom and there is often only one bathroom in the home. You will need to ask your host when is the best time to have your bath or shower. Towels are provided by your family. Internet access: Internet access is available in some homestays. Please check with us at the time of booking. 6 Option 4 Other Accommodation Options Flat & House Shares It is common for people, especially students, to share rooms, flats or houses with friends or other students. It may be hard to find this type of accommodation before you come to London as you will probably need to see the accommodation and meet the people you will share with. The following websites will give you some ideas about what type of accommodation is available. Students also advertise rooms and houses on the College notice board and on the College accommodation facebook page. Please book your accommodation only when your visa and flight details are confirmed and you have transferred your accommodation fee to the College expense account You should book your accommodation at least 5 working days before your arrival date.
