1 To: Parents of 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students From: Navina Daswani, Secondary School Coordinator Date: Tuesday 10th January 2017 Subject: Summer School (Remedials, Re-inforcement & Incomplete Term) 2017 and CIE preparation courses Dear Parent, This is to inform you that this year s Summer School will be held between Thursday 12th January and Wednesday 8th February 2017.The Summer School will take the form of one 4-week intensive session with classes being held from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily from Monday to Friday. This 4-week session will be held in the Annexe and exams will be held on the final three days of this session, i.e. 6 th, 7 th and 8 th February. As you are no doubt aware, Summer School is an important part of The Oxford School s curriculum. This is because it not only gives students the opportunity to recuperate work which they have missed, or failed, in the previous academic year, but it also helps students prepare for the key Cambridge lnternational Examinations and for the significant transition from 10 th to 11 th grade in certain subjects. In detail, the following four criteria determine which students must attend Summer School: 1. Students who have incompleted work outstanding from the 2016 School year. 2. Students who have failed between one and three subjects. 3. (i) Students who require extra assistance in preparing for the Cambridge lnternational Examinations. (IGCSE, AS Levels or A Levels) (ii) 11 th grade students who require additional help in preparing for the significant change from 10 th to 11 th grade in English Language, Mathematics and/or Spanish. 4. All new students must attend Summer School in order to both familiarise themselves with the way The Oxford School operates and to be introduced to subjects which may be new to them. Benefits of attending Summer School: 1. To help students who did not reach the required standard during the academic year, so that they will be in a position to start the next school year on a par with their class colleagues. 2. To improve grades in a subject in which students lack confidence. If, for example, a student is finding Mathematics difficult, Summer School provides the extra help which would enable them to achieve better grades in the forthcoming School year. 3. To improve written and spoken English. Summer School enables students who do not have English as their first language to develop both verbal and written English skills. All students attending Summer School MUST: 1. Arrive punctually EVERY day. 2. Attend the course in its entirety. 3. Complete ALL assignments given during the course.

2 Please also note that: 1. Students are required to wear school uniform during the course. 2. A bus service will be available to take students both to and from school at 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. 3. Students arriving specifically for courses at other times must arrange alternative travel arrangements. 4. Cafeteria will be open throughout the day. 5. No student will be permitted to leave the school premises during the day to purchase food or for any other reason. Please refer to the schedule attached for the exact times of each course. During the same period, from Monday 16 th January to Wednesday 8 th February, 2017, The Oxford School will also be offering preparatory courses for the Cambridge lnternational Exams at IGCSE, AS level and A level.
