Advantage t studying the same passage as was preached n Sunday: A gifted teacher already has examined the passage and taught n it, s peple shuld have a running start n understanding what it means. 2. Grup members have spent sme time examining the passage and thinking thrugh the questins t be asked and the directin f the interactive discussin. II. Yur attitude as the leader is a key issue. Humility, respect fr the Wrd, genuine lve, penness and cncern fr thers in the meeting these are all easily picked up n. Whether yu are peaceful r anxius, jyful r dwncast, etc. these attitudes will be discerned and are ften cntagius. 2. As yu begin the study time, start by reading (r having smene read) the entire text t be cnsidered. 3. When there is nt clarity with the first apprach t the questin, simply ask the same thing in anther way. T d this effectively, yu will have t think thrugh the discussin yurself ahead f time. 4. Avid answering yur wn questins. The grup will quickly learn nt t participate if they knw yu will d mst f the talking. 5. Dn t be afraid f silence. Often this is when the mst fruitful thinking/meditatin takes place. Yu may want t mentin this nw and then, i.e., that silence is OK. Smetimes, thugh, silence can indicate that the questin was unclear r perhaps irrelevant. This needs t be discerned. 6. After an initial answer t yur questin, ask thers fr additinal insights. Genuinely affirm peple s cntributins, tactfully as they are speaking (eye cntact, etc.) and after they are finished ( Gd bservatin, Excellent pint, I ve never thught f it that way befre, etc.) 5

6 LifeGrup Meeting Checklist BEFORE: BE READY 1. INTERCESSION: During the week, and especially the day f the LifeGrup meeting, think abut the meeting and pray fr it. Pray fr the peple that will attend. Ask Gd t fill yu with faith and hly expectatin. 2. RESOURCES: Make sure these things are n hand: Kleenex, Sund surce and sng sheets fr wrship (ptinal) Guest bk and pen Name tags 3. REFRESHMENTS: (cffee, juice, finger fds, and paper gds) 4. INTERACTIVE BIBLE STUDY: Be prepared with extra discussin guides, pens and bibles. 5. ICEBREAKER: Decide wh will lead this. It might be nice t have smene else lead this exercise ther than the facilitatr. 7. CHILDREN S MINISTRY: This is ptinal fr grups, but if childcare is t be prvided, d it well! Get resurces tgether. The rm needs t be selected and set up. Cnsider any baby-prfing that may need t be dne. Have any materials fr the kids ready t g. 8. Arrive at the meeting befre it is scheduled t begin: a) Help set up the meeting rm (chairs and furniture, children's rms, wrship, refreshments, etc.). b) PRAY! c) Be prepared t welcme guests as they arrive. The use f nametags fr the first cuple gatherings can help a new grup t bnd mre easily. DURING: BE EDIFYING (I Crinthians 14:26) 1. 7 3. Pray silently as thers speak r pray alud. Be ready t pray alud, but dn't be afraid f silence. Avid being "lng-winded" when yu speak r pray. 4. Encurage thers t participate and be a participant in sharing frm yur wn heart. If the situatin arises that there is "un-edifying" sharing, be ready t share smething psitive and redirect the grup back n curse. 5. Avid sharing r raising cmplicated and unreslved prblems, r asking cntrversial r academic questins. 6. Nte peple wh seem cnfused, upset, etc., during the meeting. Plan t talk with them afterwards, r minister t them during the ministry time. 7. Always be ready and willing t serve thers. AFTERWARDS: BE EFFECTIVE 1. As a general rule, guests and returning nn-believers shuld take first pririty in terms f yur attentin after the meeting. Engage in friendly cnversatin find ut abut their lives. Try t discern needs. Encurage them. 2. Be certain yu have cllected all the names and phne numbers f each guest. Warmly see yur guests ff as they g. 3. After the abve is dne, help t clean up. 4. Debrief as necessary with c-leaders. 5. Fill ut yur nline attendance reprt. 7

RKCC needs yur participatin as a qualified and devted leader r apprentice, and we als want the best fr the peple yu will be leading. In rder t help yu understand the expectatins f leadership and als t understand yu better, a leadership interview prcess is used. The first step in this prcess is fr every prspective leader r apprentice t affirm the fllwing standards.
