1 Sub Camps There will be three sub camps at BrumJam 2012; your group has been allocated to Poseidon A. The sub camps will each have a main theme colour; red, white and blue and a name Zeus (Red), Hercules (White) and Poseidon (Blue). Each sub camp will also be split into two sub groups - Group A and Group B. This is to support the 6 different activities days. Your sub camp will be your base for the duration of the camp and we hope that you will feel at home there! You will be able to experience a real Jamboree spirit, through living alongside other groups from all over the UK and abroad. Each sub camp will have a team of staff dedicated to maximising your enjoyment of the Jamboree event. Opportunities on your sub camp might include: Cooking a traditionally British meal for your foreign neighbours Joining an international team to play cricket Strutting your stuff at the sub camp Talent show Taking part in crafts and theming of the sub camp Meeting at "sub camp central" for a chill out with new friends Introducing your Sub Camps Poseidon Sub Camp Leader Profile My name is Emma, I am the Sub Camp Leader for Poseidon at Brumjam, my team, who are Richard Powell, John Monaghan and Darren Kyte, are very excited about putting on a fantastic programme for you. We have a great deal panned and hope you enjoy your Brumjam experience. I am a Cub Scout leader, from Rubery, Birmingham; although, I have been know to take on the role of Beaver Leader, Scout leader and Explorer leader from time to time! I was a Birmingham contingent leader for the 21 st World Jamboree in Hylands Park Essex. I have two children both in Scouting and I work for Chiquitos restaurant. Poseidon Sub Camp Welcome to Poseidon Sub camp, we are situated right in the centre of all the action; we have the main arena and all the entertainment on our doorstep! How fantastic is that? You will also have lots of activities to do on our Sub camp, along a with a few little surprises. On our Sub Camp there is an under water theme (hopefully not helped by the weather!), which represents the Greek God we are named after, who is the God of the sea!

2 You are welcome to bring anything that would help decorate our sub camp in this theme and to personalise your own campsite. We would like to display a necker from each contingent on our Sub Camp, so if you could please bring a spare necker that would be great. When you arrive you will be greeted by one of the Sub Camp team. So anything you need just ask. Look forward to meeting you all on July 28 th all in blue of course! Emma Monaghan Poseidon Sub Camp Leader Sub Camp Day One of the days at camp will be a sub camp day. This will give you a chance to visit all the groups on the sub camp and host people visiting your site. We hope you will take the opportunity to share foods or traditions from your region. There will also be lots of activities to take part in with your new friends on the sub camp. In the morning, the sub camp team will host a mini Olympics, with athletics, football, volleyball, gymnastics?! In the afternoon we hope everyone will join in a traditionally English theme with cream teas, stalls, croquet etc. The evening will finish with a pub quiz and skittles Sub Camp Day Programme; Big Breakfast Mini Olympics Cultural Festival British Fete Opening Bhanghara Brumjam s got Talent (Heats) Evening Programme

3 Big Breakfast The Big Breakfast is the first activity of the Sub Camp Day The idea behind the Big Breakfast is to get all the participants into the habit of meeting and mixing with others from different regions and countries, as early into the Jamboree as possible. The day before the Big Breakfast, each young person will be issued with a coloured ticket. There will be four different colours, each representing a different region. On the morning of the Big Breakfast, groups should prepare enough food to feed however many of them there are- i.e. if there are 32 from 2nd Winchester Scout Group, they cook for 32. HOWEVER, they will not be eating it! At 8 o clock, everyone with a ticket starts to mingle within the Sub Camp. Their aim is to find 3 other people, each with a different colour ticket. Once a group of four is formed, they can find a place to have breakfast. Over breakfast, the must complete a simple questionnaire about the others in their group of 4. This will earn them their Sub Camp Badge Once breakfast is finished, participants say goodbye to their new friends, and head back to their own groups to wash up and get ready for the rest of the day. Mini Olympics With the theme of the Olympics, Brumjam brings you our own Olympic adventure where teams will be pitched against each other for as many challenges as you can fit into 2 hours. The winning team get prestigious medals and the life long glory of success!! Things you need to know before you arrive: The sports are all suitable for Scouts, Guides, Explorers, Ventures and Leaders. There are a variety of challenges that everybody should take part in. Some of the sports might involve water and physical exertion so you ll need appropriate sporty clothing and footwear, and something that can get wet. We can adapt the activities as required for specific special needs based on the information submitted to BrumJam in advance. Teams will need to be between 8 and 10 people. Don t worry if your group don t naturally make a group that size, we ll be able to sort out teams at a Subcamp leaders meeting the day before.

4 International Festival BrumJam is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the different regions being represented, and their own unique cultures. As part of the Sub Camp Day, each unit will have the opportunity to show what s best about their region to the rest of their Sub Camp. We liked to see as many of the idea below as possible, but if you have more that would be fantastic:- Food - this event will be taking place shortly after lunch and there is no need to provide full meals, nibbles sampling a local delicacy will be fine. Dress up - be imaginative a group who hail from near Hadrian s Wall could kit themselves out in Roman togas (it s amazing what a few safety pins and an old sheet can be turned into). If you have a famous local person, come in fancy dress! If you re really stuck for ideas, why not show your allegiance to a local team and wear their strip? Games - these should be quick, easy and fun. For example a group from a rural location might like to have a competition running for the furthest welly toss, and have tractor races with vehicles made from cardboard cut-outs. Make something - what better way for a new friend to remember you, than by something you ve made together? You could show them how to write their name in your native language, instruct them in how to make a bracelet or teach them a new scouting skill. Create a display - show us what s great about your area. Let s see plenty of photos, and hear why your home town is worth shouting about! National flags at the ready The unit who put together the best show will be awarded a prize by the Sub Camp Leader. British Fete This is an opportunity for you to experience a Great British Fete, taking part in traditional festival games and side shows, which will be around the main arena all afternoon, why not try your luck at the Coconut Shy, Croquet, splat the rat, tin can alley and lots more. During the Fete the Sub Camp Heats of Brumjams got Talent will take place in the main arena. This is a chance for your contingent to show off their talents! You will have 10 minutes to perform You will need to bring any equipment you need with you (costumes, instruments etc ) We will be able to provide a PA system Any number of your contingent may enter

5 Only One entry from each contingent The winning performance from each Subcamp will take part in the final which will take place at the closing ceremony.
