The Fluffy Bunny Marathon Provincial Championships Alberta XCM Cup #3 Mountain Bike Race Sunday Aug 7 / 2016 THE RACE For the first time ever, Bragg Creek will host the Alberta Provincial Marathon Championships! West Bragg is the entrance to some of the most amazing mountain bike trails in the world. Team Onyerleft with the help of many supporters will be bringing this event to Alberta s race calendar. We are proud to work along with the GBCTA (Greater Bragg Creek Trails Association). The GBCTA has done some amazing things with the trail network around Bragg Creek. We will be donating $10 from every race entry towards the GBCTA to help them to continue building and maintaining the best trails around! This year we will be using the worlds most advanced timing system developed by Zone 4. The Go Chip Timing system works by strapping the Go Chip to your ankle,wrist,bike or backpack. The system offers.01 second accuracy of each racer with lap and split times, we ll also have hill climb and downhill segments within the course. With the addition of segments within the race there will also be cash prizing for uphill and downhill segment age group leaders! 2 The Location Start heading towards Bragg Creek, once you ve arrived you ll want to turn down Balsam Ave west bound and head over the bridge and then take a left at the T intersection. You should now be heading west on Centre Ave and just keep keep going straight until the road ends at the parking lot.

4 THE COURSE The course is suitable for all abilities and features everything that makes mountain biking awesome! The 21 km long course has over 800m of climbing per lap the fastest lap time can be under 75 min with dry conditions. The race starts with a small loop on a section of double track before you find yourself climbing up the full stretch of Ranger Summit s 240 meters of elevation gain. Now the real fun begins as you find yourself winding down Snakes & up 150 meters of Ladders. At the end of the Ladders climb you ll be on Ridgeback which will bring you quickly to the base of Bobcat where you can start your 300 meter climb. With that final 300 meter climb comes the final 300 meter descent down Strange Brew and Boundary Ridge. Once you cross over the bridge you ll be heading into the start/finish and tech zone area to finish or do it again;) The start and stop points for the race segments will be clearly marked on both the climb and the downhill. The segment points will differ from Saturdays XC race. Cash will be handed out to all segment category winners! THE RACE FORMAT The way this marathon race will work is pretty simple, complete as many laps you can within a 4 1/2 hr time limit (U19 and U17 categories will only complete one lap). The race will start at 10:00 am sharp as a mass start, it will be staged from the fastest up front to the not so serious in the back. The race will end at 2:30 PM sharp, if anyone finishes 1 second past 2:30 PM there last lap(and segment times within that last lap) will not count. The fastest riders of the day should be completing 3 laps with a total time around 4 hours. So if a you just finished 2 laps and it s 1:00pm you ll need to complete your third lap in less than 90min. If you find yourself sprinting to the finish at 2:29 pm you be prepared for the loudest cheering imaginable! Check out the lap on Strava

6 The Registration There will be no race day registration, so make sure you register on zone4 before August 5, 11:59pm. If you don t like wasting money then make sure you sign up before July 25, 11:59pm and save yourself 15 bucks! Visit Zone4 to register now! Reminder!! Race registration closes at 11:59 pm on Thursday, August 5. NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION, MAX CAPACITY FOR EVENT 150! The Cost The race fees will vary depending on when you choose to register. If you pre-register before July 25, 11:59 pm the entry fee s will only be $55 for all under 18 and $70 for all other licensed riders. For all citizen (unlicensed) racers there will be a additional $10 insurance fee. A late fee of $15 will apply if you register after July 26 12:00 am. Keep in mind that $10 from each entry fee will be donated to the Greater Bragg Creek Trails Association. Also included in the registration costs will be one of the worlds most advanced and accurate timing system, cash payouts on segment category leaders, on-site emergency medical technician, food, beverages, draw prizes and medals! As well as over $1600 in cash prizing for open category podiums and segment leaders! All racers will also take home a custom designed fitted t-shirt! The Race Day Sign-on Look for the ABA tent by the staging/start/finish area to sign up before the race and pick up your Go Chip timing chip! -If you are a licensed rider you ll need your license to sign-on -If you have a race plate make sure you bring it! If you forgot your plate there will be a $10 charge for a new one. -Sign on for the mass start marathon will start at 8:15am and run till 9:45am -After you sign up and collect your number plate (tie straps will be provided), be sure to pick up your shirt, which will be located next to the ABA sign-on tent.

7 THE RACE CATEGORIES -Only solo competators (NO TEAMS PERMITTED) -Provincial Classification Categories: (Medals) Open,Masters(30-39),Masters(40-49),Masters(50-59),Masters(60+),U19(Junior),U17 -Non Provincial Classification Categories:(No Medals) Expert,Sport,Novice -Citizen Category (non-licensed):(no Medals) Citizen 30+, Citizen 20-29, Citizen U19 THE RACE DAY DETAILS 8:00 am to 9:45 am Sign-in at the ABA tent, pick up swag and Go Chip Timing chip 9:45 am staging begins Open categories first then followed by Masters, Juniors, Sport and remaining categories and skill levels 10:00 am Race start 11:15 am First of the racers passing through to start 2nd lap 1:00 pm Last riders heading out for final lap 2:29 pm Crazy loud cheering for final riders crossing the finish line 2:30 pm Race Finished 2:50 pm Awards Ceremony / Segment category leader cash payout *All GO Chip Timing chips will be collected right after you cross the finish line, if you have lost the chip you ll have no time, marked as DNF and fined $60. Which would make for a pretty crapy day, so make sure the chip is secure and don t lose it;) THE TIMING SYSTEM The timing system will be in the hands of the pros at Zone4. 8 FOOD AND WATER There will be plenty of beverages along with a variety fruits and goodies provided to all racers. We do ask that you bring your own race nutrition. MECHANICAL / FEED ZONE The Feed/Mechanical zone will be clearly marked. Racers are responsible for their own mechanical work and feed zone assistance. Any help/feed outside of the feed zone will result in DSQ. BIKES AND EQUIPMENT All your equipment needs to be in good, safe working condition and you must wear an approved bike helmet at all times. Remember to always wear your helmet when riding your bike, even if your not racing! BEAR SPRAY Bear spray is NOT mandatory! Although if you choose to carry a can, make sure it is securely fastened to your bike or yourself! All check point course marshals will have bear spray. PRIZES AND AWARDS There will be 2 coveted Provincial Championships Jerseys and cash up for grabs for the fastest Open Man and Woman as well as custom Provincial Champion Vests from Code Performance wear. Medals will be awarded to top 3 finishers in every Provincial classification category. Cash will be awarded to Segment Age Group Leaders for uphill and downhill! There will also be a large assortment of draw prizes awarded to racers and volunteers. First Aid/Medical Emergency Medical Technician will be on site and ready for any injuries that may occur during the race. Medical location will be near the feed/tech zone. Anti-Doping The ABA complies with and fully supports the UCI anti-doping regulations, the clauses of the World Anti-doping Code and its international Standards to which the UCI anti-doping regulations refer and to the anti-doping regulations of other competent bodies as per the regulations of the UCI.
