1 National Goals Goal 3 Teaching: Prepare and Connect Just as leveraging technology can help us improve learning and assessment, the model of learning calls for using technology to help build the capacity of educators by enabling a shift to a model of connected teaching. In such a teaching model, teams of connected educators replace solo practitioners, classrooms are fully connected to provide educators with 24/7 access to data and analytic tools, and educators have access to resources that help them act on the insights the data provide. Strategies Outcomes Current Progress New Initiatives 3.1 Expand opportunities for educators to have access to technology-based content, resources, and tools where and when they need them. Implement the new Sharepoint to facilitate greater organization and access to content, resources and tools for educators Educate staff on content rich personal learning networks (PLN) and their value in educating students 1. Researching appropriate online guest lecturers 2. Researching virtual tours for students and add to 3. Researching simulations for students and add to
2 4. Researching possible content expertise opportunities and add to 5. Researching tools that exist to demonstrate content concepts and add to appropriate PLN page on 6. Researching tutorials that exist to demonstrate content teaching and/or teaching strategies and add to appropriate content PLN on 7. Researching webinars that exist to demonstrate content teaching and/or teaching strategies and add to appropriate content PLN on 3.3 Use technology to provide all learners with online access to effective teaching and better learning opportunities and options especially in places where they are not otherwise available. Determine the advantages, disadvantages and dangers of interactive PLNs for elementary students resulting in recommendations for their use We have not encouraged this practice at this point, but if a teacher has been trained and understands the safe methods of designing the site we have allowed this practice Determine if interactive PLNs should be used with all students or at what specific grade levels If a determination is made to promote PLNs in classrooms and/or grades, provide appropriate training for staff Determine which software and/or online community that should be used for a PLN in the
5 classroom 3.4 Provide pre-service and inservice educators with professional learning experiences powered by technology to increase their digital literacy and enable them to create compelling assignments for students that improve learning, assessment, and instructional practices.
