A lot of interesting reading activities from authentic materials are used. Our students love them! Music: what a fantastic way to practise listening and to improve pronunciation! Our classes take place in Bloomsbury Square, a few metres down the road from the British Museum in the heart of London. Students will receive a certificate and a course report at the end of their stay. NEW Accommodation Our new hall of residence is situated within easy walking distance of our school within the University College London (UCL) campus: one of the top five universities in the United Kingdom. All our students will have access to some of the common areas such as TV room, music room, games room and great social activities. Rooms: twin or triple rooms with washbasins and internet connection. Bathrooms are shared between bedrooms in a ratio of 5 bedrooms to 1 bathroom. The linen is provided and rooms are cleaned twice a week. We have reserved single rooms only for group leaders. Food: we provide all 3 meals in the nearby UCL canteen where students will be able to choose from 3 to 5 options. A packed lunch is provided on Saturdays and Sundays. Social Programme We offer a Social Programme seven days a week, with excursions to the main attractions in London; museums, parks, historical buildings, galleries and many more. Students have the freedom to choose 3 activities a week. Why? Because your hosts will be native English speakers and there s no better way to practise what you learn in your English lessons than by chatting to people who live here. Breakfast is usually included and other meals can also be included if you want them. Rooms are cleaned and bed linen and towels changed weekly. You ll have your own house key and your host is there to offer help, advice and take an interest in your wellbeing. As London is a large, multi-cultural city, the families offering Home Stays come from many ethnic backgrounds, but English is always the main language spoken in the house. No one else in the house will speak your mother tongue, unless you specially request it. But be warned your English lessons may go to waste if you spend all your time out of school speaking your own language! For us the students safety is paramount, all home stay accommodation is in accordance with the standards required by the British Council, giving the students a safe environment while they are away from home. Social Programme We offer a tailored social programme for our groups. This may include excursions to the main attractions in London; museums, parks, historical buildings, galleries and many more. 12 Some questions How much English do I need to know to be able to apply to come on one of your courses? We need you to have an elementary level of English. We will send you an electronic placement test and you will know which class you will be in before you arrive. How much should I bring to spend in London? I hear it is expensive! You need to allow around 1 per day for your daily ticket to travel around London. If you are attending our Young Learner Summer School then 30 will be enough for a few treats. What happens if there is an emergency? We have a trained first aid officer with the students while in class and during excursions. Risk assessments are carefully carried out according to British Council guidelines. As well as a 24 hour emergency number, there will be a telephone number for your group leader in the welcome pack you will get once your place on the course has been confirmed. It also has the details of where you will be staying. Your parents will therefore have a number of ways to contact you in an emergency. Parental Consent We require a parent or guardian to complete a parental consent form and return this to us when you book the programme. Personal safety: some common sense precautions Don t forget to keep your money and important documents close to you at all times. Securely lock your luggage and do not leave it unattended. London is a safe place generally, but as in all major cities you should always be sensible about your personal safety.
