Funds The group regularly advises on the establishment and on-going operation of a wide range of investment funds. We have particular capabilities in relation to real estate, hedge, regulated & structured, private equity, infrastructure, sharia and sovereign wealth funds and we have a significant track record in providing and implementing innovative ideas for asset managers and investors in developing new funds. We assist asset managers on all aspects of setting up new investment funds, including tax matters, fund structuring, drafting offering materials, drafting constitutional documentation, joint venture arrangements, negotiating with investors and handling closings. Investors Notably, we have a highly sophisticated practice in advising a broad range of institutional investors on their investments in funds and their appointment of asset managers. We are therefore very much in tune with market standards across a range of asset management products. This also provides a benefit to our asset manager clients, since this market knowledge makes us more efficient in structuring funds, negotiating side letters and closing investors into a fund. 3 3 Key contacts Pierre Schleimer Partner Investment Funds Tel Pierre co-heads the Luxembourg investment funds practice and specialises in finance and regulatory matters. He has substantial experience in advising on regulatory aspects and the structuring of regulated and unregulated investment funds, with a particular focus on structured funds, hedge funds and real estate funds. Pierre was formerly the president of the Luxembourg Young Bar Association ( ) and a member of the Luxembourg Bar Council ( ). He is a member of several technical committees of the Association of the Luxembourg Fund Industry (ALFI). Renaud provides ongoing regulatory advice to clients on the Luxembourg investment funds regime but also on a wide ranging of other areas of law relating to the funds business (ie, finance, corporate, derivatives, etc). In addition, he regularly advises clients on insurance regulatory matters. Renaud is a member of the Association of the Luxembourg Fund Industry (ALFI) and of the Luxembourg Banking Lawyers Association (ALJB). 5 5 Our Tax specialists Jean Schaffner Partner TAX Tel Jean heads the Luxembourg tax practice and is also the chairman of Allen & Overy s global tax board, the firm-wide management body of the Tax department. He advises various international investment banks on tax structured finance schemes (including securitisations) and has extensive experience in advising institutional investors and private equity funds in cross-border investments all over Europe. He has significant expertise in advising clients on tax aspects for Luxembourg investments and in relation to the structuring of international acquisitions via Luxembourg regulated and nonregulated vehicles.
