2 CPIC mving frward This dcument has been created t help prvide a little directin t CPIC s activity ver the cming 3 years. There are a range f fundamentals that are nt yet in place fr CPIC that really ught t be made a pririty, such as; Develping an effective Membership Database Imprving bth methds and speed f cmmunicatin Develping year rund benefits t membership Increasing membership and representatin Develping a crrect stance t allw CPIC t becme a majr player in Crnwall s Care Sectr Acting as a actin grup fr the Care sectr This is nt meant t be an exhaustive dcument, but shuld be used a starting pint fr the develpment f Crnwall Partners in Care. 3 Benefits In sme ways, this is the nuts and blts f CPIC. In rder t attract new members, the bard needs t review what it can currently ffer members t determine if it is an attractive enugh ffer t encurage new members t jin. My feeling is that it is nt as strng an ffering as it culd be, s the bard might want t cnsider sme additinal ptins fr members. I am sure the bard are capable f identifying additinal benefits that it feels wuld appeal t members, but as a starting pint, I wuld like t suggest cnsidering sme f the fllwing (mst, if nt all f these are being ffered by ther Care Assciatins acrss the UK); Regular cmmunicatin newsletters, imprtant updates/news and infrmatin via the website Netwrking Opprtunities Regular meetings t discuss tpical issues and pssibly even scial events Access t Plicy and Prcedure template dcuments CPIC culd create a library f dcuments fr members t access. Fr a fixed hurly charge, CPIC culd als prvide supprt t help members tailr the dcuments fr their wn setting and assist with the implementatin f the plicies etc Representatin being able t supprt members thrugh strng relatinships with key figures and bdies within Crnwall and Natinally (CQC). Cnsultatin CPIC culd and shuld cnsult with its members n a regular basis regarding a range f issues (eg tendering) Discunts members culd get discunts fr services frm spnsrs (eg Legal r Accuntancy fees), discunts n tickets t the annual seminar, discunts n CRB/DBS checks, discunts n Cnsultancy Training c-rdinatin f activity, access t funding and training management Annual Seminar Fully catered large event with keynte speakers, wrkshps sessins, etc Once any list has been agreed upn, it will be up t the bard t decide hw best t implement them as sme may require sme additinal activity befre they can be ffered t members. There will als be the issue f marketing this infrmatin amngst the care sectr in Crnwall, hwever a marketing plan culd easily (and prbably shuld) be an entirely separate dcument. 4 Spnsrship It might be wrth the bard identifying ptential spnsrs fr CPIC frm lcal cmpanies relevant t the care sectr (Slicitrs, Insurance, Accuntants etc) r natinal institutins such as banks. This wuld create a tw way relatinship whereby the cmpany prvides annual spnsrship fr sme activity (website, annual seminar etc) in respnse fr being prmted t CPIC members as being the primary surce fr their area f business. This apprach will have a multitude f benefits as members culd receive discunts n services r receive fixed price cnsultancy fr specialist areas such as safeguarding. The unifrmity and equality f service will als help create sectr specific expertise within Crnwall (ie experts in Residential Care hme law in Crnwall). Thrugh creating a netwrk f spnsrs, CPIC will then be able t ffer a Cnsultancy service drawing n the expertise f their private spnsrs fr a fixed hurly charge. Membership It is essential that ging frward, the bard are aware f wh the members are and recrds sme valuable infrmatin regarding their demgraphics (basic cntact infrmatin, where they are, what area they cver, hw many staff they emply, what their turnver is, etc). This really needs t be a cre activity fr the Care Sectr representative rganisatin. Als f imprtance is establishing wh are nt members, ideally with the same level f infrmatin, althugh this may prve a little trickier. The infrmatin will help guide future areas f imprvement and marketing activity if fr example membership is lw in ne gegraphical lcatin r amngst a specific type f business such as Residential hmes with less than 10 beds. Used effectively this type f infrmatin culd be used t increase membership. CPIC shuld always be lking t increase its membership t ensure that it is as representative as pssible f and fr Crnwall s Care Sectr and an apprpriate strategy t achieve this needs t be develped (telephne campaign, media/pr campaign etc). Once CPIC have established its psitin within the market, it wuld be wrth reviewing membership fees. It wuld appear that the current annual membership is amng the lwest in the UK. Other Care Assciatins use a graded system depending n factrs such as turnver r number f staff, r number f beds/places. Fr example in Smerset prices are based n number f beds ranging frm 144 (1-3 beds) t 592 (50 r mre beds), and in Leeds it is simply 49 per bed. Any change in prices will need t be linked t benefits as members will need t feel that they are getting value frm the membership. Crnwall Partners in Care August 2013 Page 4 f 6

5 Cnsultancy In rder t be seen as the experts fr and amng the care sectr, CPIC needs t be the first place that members and nn-members turn t fr advice n any matters that are affecting their businesses. Mst care assciatins ffer this service fr an hurly rate, discunted fr members, either thrugh their executive and bard members r thrugh bringing in private expertise. This wuld link t the Spnsrship pprtunities, fr example if a member wanted sme advice n emplyment law r HR, then a legal spnsr wuld be able t prvide that supprt fr a fee. This is particularly imprtant in relatin t tender activity. Any infrmatin, experience and lessns learned frm invlvement in a tender prcess shuld help CPIC t better psitin itself t supprt its membership during any future tenders. Cmmunicatin Regular newsletters with relevant cntent frm a single surce. The 1and1 webmail system is wefully inadequate as a member messaging service. I wuld suggest that CPIC invest in a dedicated members messaging system such as Grup Mail r Mailchimp t enable them t mre effectively create newsletters and cmmunicate with their members. Likewise, sme thught shuld be given t a plicy in place that dictates hw and when infrmatin is shared t bth members and the sectr as a whle t prevent businesses frm being bmbarded with infrmatin. Cntact frm CPIC shuld cme frm ne central surce nly t make managing this mre prcess effective. In the first instance a dedicated address fr the Executive Officer shuld be created. Training c-rdinatin the fact that there is little c-rdinatin f training is surprising, given that a large number f businesses all require a range f bradly similar training activity n a regular basis. CPIC culd becme the training department fr all its members, taking n respnsibilities fr rganising training & inductins fr any new staff nce ntified by a business, managing a database f qualificatins fr all member businesses, ntifying the business when any renewals are due, c-rdinating training, negtiating prices with prviders etc. This wuld need t be a paid fr service, but it wuld reduce the wrklad fr members and thrugh mre effective c-rdinatin culd reduce csts. Lnger term, if this were t take ff, CPIC culd lk t becme an awarding bdy with the ptential t access Mainstream funding t supprt sme f the activity. In the shrt term there is a wealth f funding available t members that needs mre effective c-rdinatin and cmmunicatin t members. There are als a number f key partners (such as CASC, PRT etc) that CPIC culd be wrking clser with in rder t prmte training t ur members, sme f which nt be s readily available n the pen market lcally. 6 CRB/DBS CPIC culd, and sme may argue prbably shuld becme a CRB/DBS checking umbrella rganisatin fr the Care Sectr in Crnwall. This will prvide a useful member benefit t encurage peple t jin as well as creating a revenue stream fr CPIC. Sme care assciatins generate up t 18k a year thrugh ffering this service. The service des nt have t be limited t the care sectr. Once this is set up as a service it culd be prmted t any relevant business in Crnwall (childcare, pubs, etc). Annual Seminar Many ther care assciatins hld an annual event fr their members at a prestigius lcal venue with keynte speakers etc, generating ver 150 attendees and ver 8k prfit. Anther great way t encurage membership is thrugh discunted tickets fr members. This really shuld be the highlight f the year. CPIC culd lk t try and emulate this r run smething similar like a dinner / dance r charity event. Representatin CPIC needs t start demnstrating that it represents care businesses in Crnwall. This means it needs an impartial presence at every relevant meeting taking place in Crnwall (eg Safeguarding Bard, Clinical Cmmissining Grup meetings etc).
