A series of railway arch spaces In 2014/15 Sage Gateshead delivered: 623 performance events 13,045 courses, classes and workshops 64 conferences 22 premieres and commissions 105 broadcasts In 2014 Sage Gateshead completed its first decade. During this period the charity had: 6 million visitors 1.5 million participants 1000 conferences 4000 concerts 283 million of economic benefit to the region About the role This is an exciting opportunity to lead the Human Resource service at the iconic Sage Gateshead building. The purpose of this role is to ensure the provision of a high quality support function that enables the organisation to achieve its strategic aims. To provide HR expertise, in the form of advice, policies, procedures and training to enable the organisation to attract, recruit, develop and retain high quality staff. 2 Head of Human Resources Job Information Job Title Department & Team Location Working Hours Salary Position in Organisation Reports to Responsible for Budget accountability Head of Human Resources Human Resources Sage Gateshead 36 hours per week SCP ,260-33,947 per annum pro rata Chief Operating Officer HR Administrator Responsible for HR Budget Overall purpose of the job To lead the Human Resource service to ensure the provision of a high quality support function that enables the organisation to achieve its strategic aims. To provide HR expertise, in the form of advice, policies, procedures and training to enable the organisation to attract, recruit, develop and retain high quality staff. To support the organisations commitment to Equity and Diversity. Key Tasks and Duties Develop, promote and deliver HR strategy in line with NMT business objectives. Lead and maintain appropriateness of the overall HR Strategy for NMT Formulate HR plans and objectives in line with business strategy to deliver the HR Strategy Provide accurate and relevant information to the Board of Trustees and Finance and Organisation committee Participate in Senior Management meetings providing advice and training on issues relating to HR Oversee HR element of NMT Equality and Diversity Campaign Group Initiate and lead the implementation of appropriate HR projects which contribute to business objectives Initiate, undertake or oversee the research, analysis, consultation, implementation and evaluation of HR project work such as Absence Management, Equality and Diversity, Pay reviews etc. Plan and manage HR Budget in line with business objectives Review previous spend and predict future spend Monitor and approve current years expenditure Ensure best value for all HR financial commitments Priorities corporate training budget spend Lead the provision of appropriate advice to line managers on their legal responsibilities in the employment and management of staff and casual workers. Maintain an up to date and authoritative knowledge of employment legislation and its implications Monitor and advise on the fair and equitable application of policy Provide formal and informal coaching and mentoring to managers in the Policies and Procedures of NMT Oversee the recruitment, induction, management, remuneration and termination of employees is conducted appropriately, ensuring legal responsibilities are met.
3 Create, develop and implement HR Policies and Procedures in line with HR Strategy and relevant legislation, best practice and business needs Maintain an up to date and authoritative knowledge of employment legislation and its implications Maintain a good working knowledge of the content and application of NMT company policy Review and update policies periodically in line with legislation and to reflect strategic business objectives, equality and diversity and best practice Oversee the dissemination of such policies and procedures throughout NMT Oversee appropriate application of the discipline and grievance procedures and act as advice source to HR Support and Line Managers in its application and process Ensure equality and fairness in application of NMT policies Champion organisational wide Safeguarding activity as part of the wider Child Protection and Safeguarding team Assist in supporting a culture of effective Health & Safety Create, develop and deliver an effective training and development plan for all staff Identify organisational training needs, in conjunction with line managers via the PDR process and through other appropriate information sources Create, develop and deliver formal and informal training programmes and interventions to meet such needs. Refine and promulgate the PDR process, ensuring compliance with NMT policy. Allocate appropriate funding to training needs in line with HR Budget. Evaluate the appropriateness and return on investment of training interventions. Oversee the integrity and accuracy of the outsourced payroll Ensure that pay and pensions are legally compliant Ensure that payroll information is stored in line with data protection Ensure the accuracy of the monthly payroll Provide payroll advice to managers and staff as required Lead effective employee relations and act as employee champion where appropriate Encourage a two way communication with staff via 3Cs committee, and other communication structures Act as committee secretary to 3Cs Assist managers in the development of effective employee relations with their teams. Provide dispute resolution advice Maintain up to date legislative knowledge, appropriate networks and research relevant to the role. Maintain an up to date legal knowledge through attendance of employment law seminars, reading and networking. Maintain good working relationships to external advisors to ensure legal compliance. Act as NMT s representative at a local and national level, including the development of the Newcastle Gateshead Cultural Venues HR Network Share best practice and keep abreast of what colleagues in similar roles in other organisations are doing, seeking to apply this to NMT where appropriate Provide leadership, professional development and line management to the HR Team Oversee and plan the work of the HR team ensuring that all organisational objectives and needs are met

Undertake other duties appropriate to the post and in line with the needs of the organisation. Knowledge, experience and skills required to do job Area Essential (required) Desirable (optional) Qualifications. Graduate level qualification in HRM. CIPD Chartered membership Post graduate qualification in HRM or relevant business Experience Substantial generalist HR experience including recruitment, discipline and grievance issues, training and development and employee relations Experience of senior level decision making and policy setting Experience of line management Experience of HR Information Systems Management Experience of Safeguarding processes Experience of payroll and knowledge of pensions schemes Understanding of principles and practice of Equality and Diversity Experience and knowledge of workforce development, including placements and apprenticeships discipline Experience within the cultural/charity sector Skills or Thorough understanding of European Training delivery skills knowledge and UK employment legislation Excellent demonstrable interpersonal, written and oral communication skills High level negotiation and influencing skills Creative and innovative problem solving skills, ability to deal with ambiguity and conflicting priorities Excellent organisational skills, including multi tasking, with good attention to detail Customer focus Commitment to Equality and Diversity and HR best practice Proven research skills Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office Other factors Highest levels of personal integrity An appreciation of music and the arts
5 Terms and Conditions We believe Sage Gateshead is a great place to work - an innovative and friendly environment, where no two days are ever the same. The holiday entitlement for this post is 33 days pa pro rata (including statutory holidays). The salary for this post is 30,260-33,947 per annum pro rata (SCP 35-39) We also offer subsidised parking for staff members, as well as a discount in our café, and access to a voluntary health cash plan, bike to work scheme, childcare vouchers and travel ticket scheme.
