1 Learning Objectives Recognize the signs and symptoms of non-accidental injury. Decide the usefulness of using alternate light sources when evaluating patients for abuse. Perform a Wood s lamp exam on children presenting with non-accidental injury to assess for subclinical bruising. Recognize and appropriately diagnose the different etiology of traumatic burns. Apply appropriate therapies for the etiology of a traumatic burn and relative age of the patient. Describe treatment guidelines for lower extremity fractures. Recognize lower extremity injuries requiring emergent treatment. Describe the management of traumatic urethral injuries. Discuss the association between pelvic fractures and traumatic urethral injuries. Recognize special considerations in the management of pediatric trauma patients. Discuss the management of the pediatric trauma patient throughout the continuum of care. Identify the unique challenges that are faced by health care providers in the management of pediatric trauma patients. Recognize the classic visual presentation of illness and injuries in children.
