I have experienced the pain of death How you might relate to death: You have lost someone You might be afraid You don t know specifically what is going to happen Thanatophobia: Fear of death Ghost stories Paranormal, Haunted houses What happens when we die? BUDDHISM To Buddhism, however, death is not the end of life, it is merely the end of the body we inhabit in this life, but our spirit will still remain and seek out through the need of attachment, attachment to a new body and new life. Where they will be born is a result of the past and the accumulation of positive and negative action, and the resultant karma (cause and effect) is a result of ones past actions. MORMONS When the spirit leaves the body, it goes to the spirit world and awaits the resurrection. At that time, the spirits of all humankind will be joined eternally with our perfected bodies, and we will be judged by the Savior to determine our eternal destination after this life. MANY EVANGELICALS Most Christians believe that our souls are taken immediately to be with Christ until we are reunited with our bodies at his second coming or go to hell where you will burn for eternity ISLAM Death is when the rooh (soul) leaves the body of a human being and that is the point when that person ceases to be alive and is pronounced dead. From this point onwards the rooh travels from this world to the next and the body gets buried in the grave.

2 The angel of death, Azrael, extracts the rooh but cannot keep hold of it for the blinking of an eye when another angel snatches it away. DOES IT MATTER? it matters because we can get to know Jesus better, who HE is, His character so we can detect lies about who Jesus is We get to experience peace about our departed loved ones because we know who Jesus is! Now a certain man was ill, Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha... So the sisters sent a message to Jesus Lord, he whom you love is ill. John 11:1,3 Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. So, when He heard that he was sick, He stayed two more days in the place where He was. John 11:5-6 After saying this, he told them, Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I am going there to awaken him. John 11:11 The righteous pass away; the godly often die before their time. And no one seems to care or wonder why. No one seems to understand that God is protecting them from the evil to come. For the godly who die will rest in peace. Isa. 57:1-2 When Jesus arrived, he found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb four days. John 11:17 Asleep? What is death? then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being. Gen. 2:7

3 DO THE MATH: Breath + Dust = Life Dust - Breath = Death SEE YOU LATER! When you hide your face, they are dismayed; when you take away their breath, they die and return to their dust. Psalms 104:29 The soul who sins shall die... Ez. 18:20 For the living know that they will die; But the dead know nothing, And they have no more reward, For the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, their hatred, and their envy have now perished; Nevermore will they have a share In anything done under the sun. Ecclesiastes 9:5-6 IF THE SOUL IS ALIVE in hell suffering in limbo confused in heaven watching you suffering. GOD S PLAN A temporary state of unconsciousness... instead of: Watching Family suffering Watching spouse remarrying Witnessing their children suffering

4 Can the dead praise God? For the dead cannot praise you; they cannot raise their voices in praise. Those who go down to the grave can no longer hope in your faithfulness. Isaiah 38:18 THE THIEF ON THE CROSS Jesus answered him, "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise. Luke 23:43 But Jesus did not ascend on that day Look what he said after Jesus resurrected: Jesus said, "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God. " John 20:17 Did Jesus lie? or maybe the answer lies in the position of the comma! Jesus answered him, "Truly I tell you today, you will be with me in paradise. Luke 23:43 Jesus promise was that the thief would be in paradise with him - but not that day - It will be until the resurrection - Even Martha in John 11:24 knew when resurrection would happen! Martha said to Jesus, Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. John 11:21 Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this? John 11:25-26 Martha said to Him, I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day. John 11:24

5 When will Jesus give our REWARD: SEE YOU LATER! "Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. Revelation 22:12 The reward will be given when Jesus comes! However, Jesus understands the pain of death! He experienced it himself! Jesus began to weep. John 11:25 When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come out! The dead man came out, his hands and feet bound with strips of cloth, and his face wrapped in a cloth. Jesus said to them, Unbind him, and let him go. John 11:43-44 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: Death is swallowed up in victory. 1 Cor. 15:53-54 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 For me to live is Christ and to die is gain Philippians 1:21
