1 January 2013 The January 14, 2013 meeting was called to order at 7:10 pm by President, Bryce Hurry. We welcomed our guests, Danielle and Brittany. Gabby Wise read the minutes from our last meeting. A motion to accept the minutes was made and the minutes were accepted. Treasurer, Adam Gibbons gave the Treasurer s report. Gabby and Sydney Wise reported that they submitted drawing and photographs for the Maryland 4-H Horse Art Contest. The artwork and photographs will be displayed at the Horse Expo. Club Leader, Terry Gibbons reported that all the 4-H Record Books were turned into the 4-H Office. Mrs. Gibbons also reported that the re-enrollment forms had been submitted to the 4-H Office. The Wild Things picture of the club for our donation to Toys for Tots was in the paper. New member orientation will be held on January 17, 2013 at 6:00 pm at the 4-H Office. Beef weigh-in will be Saturday, January 19 th at 9:00 am. Melanie Buckler, Joey Collins and Gabby Wise have steers. 4-H Club Officer training will also be Saturday from 1:00 pm 3:00 pm. The 4-H Office is looking for member and parent feedback on the fair. Everyone was asked to complete a survey. Our club achievement banquet will be February 10 th at 5:00pm at Ledos. The County Achievement Banquet will be March 16 th. Volunteers are needed for the banquet. Melanie Buckler and Bryce Hurry volunteered to assist with registration. Joey Collins will help with the 50/50 raffle. Gina Baker will help with table assignments. This year clubs will not pay $ for the banquet. There will not be discounted tickets this year. Adult tickets will be $14.00 and child tickets will be $7.50. The Wild Things 4-H Club agreed to pay the cost of the ticket for each member of our club attending. The Wild Things 4-H Club will sponsor the table decorating contest. We will be changing the rules to prevent the same table design being done year after year by the same member. We also need to find a judge. We reviewed and updated our bylaws. We reviewed our club goals and plans for Our next club meeting will be February 11, 2013 at 7:00 pm. Mike Kayes will bring the refreshments. The meeting was adjourned at 7:46 pm. Adam Gibbons provided the refreshments.
2 February 2013 The February meeting of the Wild Things 4-H Club was called to order by President, Bryce Hurry. Gabby Wise read the minutes from the last meeting. Treasurer, Adam Gibbons gave the treasurer s report. Joey Collins reported that his cow is due to have her calf in the next couple of days. Bryce reported that his goat had a baby last Thursday. Mrs. Gibbons, Club Leader, reported that Mike Kayes has moved and will no longer be a member of the club. Savannah and Alexis and Emilie and Madison attended the new member orientation. Melanie Buckler, Bryce Hurry, Gabby Wise and Sydney Wise attended Beef Weigh In. Melanie and Bryce also attended the Officer Training. Gabby Wise received a Reserved Champion on one of her drawings in the Horse Art Contest. Sydney Wise received a participation ribbon as a Clover for her drawing. Mrs. Gibbons gave the leader s report. There will be some changes to the fair rules. The decision was made to keep the Herdsmanship Award. The guidelines will be coming out soon. The Scrapbook Workshop will be on February 16, A new 4-H Club in the Sotterly area is being formed and will focus on horses, gardening and small pets. The club decided on a gift for our Friend of 4-H. We will get the person a jacket. Invitations to the St. Mary s County 4-H Banquet were mailed. Our club will pay for 4-H members attending. Our club will sponsor the table decorating contest again. Our next club meeting will be on March 11 th. We will make Easter Baskets to donate to the less fortunate. Everyone should bring a basket and a bag of candy. We will also complete the Diamond Clover forms at the meeting. Gina Baker will bring snacks. Our club will have a Plant Exchange on April 13 th at 2:00 pm. Our club collected coats and will be donating them. We took a picture and will submit it to the paper. The meeting was adjourned at 7:39 pm.
3 March 2013 On March 11th, the Wild Things held a business meeting. The meeting was called to order by Vice President, Melanie Buckler. Gabby Wise read the minutes from the last meeting. Treasurer, Adam Gibbons gave the treasurer s report. Joey Collins reported that his cow is due to have her calf any day now. Mrs. Gibbons reminded everyone that the County 4-H Banquet is Saturday. Mrs. Gibbons confirmed who will be attending the banquet and who will be helpers. The visit to the Mechanicsville Rescue Squad is planned for Monday, March 25 th at 7:00 pm. The Plant Exchange will be April 13 th at 2:00 pm. We will also make bird feeders. Mrs. Gibbons asked us to save our juice cartons. The Wild Things 4-H Club will coordinate and sponsor a beef workshop. Mr. and Mrs. Wise have gotten a sponsor to cover costs and have a contact for instruction. The date for the workshop needs to be worked out. The county public speaking contest is scheduled for March 23 rd. Gabby and Sydney Wise have signed up. Mrs. Wolfe has offered to let our club cat fish at Allen Fresh. Mrs. Gibbons will contact Mrs. Wolfe and schedule. Mrs. Gibbons suggested we order club t-shirts. She will get information. Our club made Easter baskets and will be donating them to the Angel's Watch Homeless Shelter. We took a picture and will submit it to the paper. Melanie Buckler volunteered to bring snacks to the next meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 pm.
4 April 2013 The April meeting of the Wild Things 4-H club was called to order by Vice President, Melanie Buckler at 7:10 pm on April 15th. Gabby Wise read the minutes from the last meeting. Mrs. Gibbons read the Treasurer s report. The club paid for banquet tickets and prize for the table decorating contest. Announcements: Melanie s cow had a baby (heifer). Melanie has also gotten a horse. It s a haflinger. Gabby and Sydney Wise have got chickens, ducklings, and rabbits. The picture of our club making Easter baskets to donate to the local shelter was in the paper. Leader's report: Mrs. Gibbons asked the club for feedback on the banquet. Our club suggests a different set up. The people in the back could not see or hear. It was also too crowded. Quality Assurance training needs to be completed for those with animal projects. Mrs. Gibbons asked if the club would be interested in the Lancaster Farm Project. The Lancaster Farm paper is looking for articles and pictures. Mrs. Gibbons passed around a sheet with State Fair information and changes. Online entries will be due by July 31 st. The 4-H Office has a new website. Old Business: Gabby and Sydney Wise participated in the Public Speaking Contest. Adam, Gina, Gabby, Sydney, Alexis, Savannah and Chance participated in our club s Plant Day. Adam gave a demonstration on how to plant plant cuttings. Mr. & Mrs. Wise are working on the beef workshop. July 13 th is the tentative date. The Maryland Department of Agriculture has been notified. Mrs. Gibbons will reschedule the Rescue Squad visit. It was cancelled because of the weather. New business: Mrs. Gibbons asked about dates for our club fishing trip. She will check into May 11 th or June 16 th. Mrs. Gibbons returned the 2013 Diamond Clover Award Program forms. We should keep them updated as we accomplish tasks on our plan. The SMILE show is June Mrs. Gibbons will talk about the food booth at our next meeting. We need to think about the motto for our club booth. How Fun is 4-H is the State theme. Our club agreed to make a new banner. Gabby and Alexis will think of designs and bring ideas to the next meeting. Our club will get club t-shirts. Savannah will think of a design. Melanie gave an illustrated talk on the differences between trees and shrubs.
5 June 2013 The Wild Things 4-H Club held a meeting on June 17th at the home of our leader. President, Bryce Hurry, called the meeting to order at 7:06 PM. After pledges, Melanie Buckler read the treasurer's report. Savannah Sampson shared that she, Alexis and Chance spent the weekend in West Virginia where they went horseback riding and fishing. Our leader reminded us that breeding animal forms are due to the 4-H office by July 1. Old business included a report from Charles and Bryce Hurry on Spring Show, a report from Madison and Emilie Rice on our fishing and owl banding trip and getting sizes for t-shirts. S.M.I.L.E. Show is this weekend and we will be running the food booth. The beef workshop is July 13 and we have 10 people signed up. We finally decided on a theme for the booth: Join the Fun With Wild Things 4-H Club. The background will be tie dyed fabric with neon yellow letters. New business included setting a date for club craft day. It is July 19th from 9 AM to 2 PM. Our leader gave us dates for the upcoming fairs: State Fair: Aug 23 to Sept 2- register by Aug 1 PG County: Sept 5-8- register by?? Charles County: Sept St. Mary's County: Sept Calvert County: Sept The meeting was adjourned and we took the old fabric off of the booth to get it ready for this year. Destiny provided snacks. 6 The July meeting was called to order by President, Bryce Hurry at 7:04 pm on July 15th. Gabby Wise read the minutes from the last meeting. Adam Gibbons read the Treasurer s report. The club has expenses for T-shirts and craft day of approximately $ that will be reflected on next month s statement. Alexis, Savannah, and Chance got chickens. The club t-shirts were distributed. Melanie Buckler, Bryce Hurry and Gabby Wise participated in the SMILE Show. Melanie got Reserve Champion for her Steer and Bryce got Reserve Champion for his Goat. Gabby got 2 nd on her Steer and Champion for her Hereford heifer. The Club Craft Day will be Friday, July 18 th. Sydney Wise demonstrated how to make a harmonica out of popsicle sticks. The Sampson family provided snacks and Joey Collins will bring snacks for the next meeting. The meeting was adjourned and club members worked on the Club Booth for the State Fair. 7 November 2013 The November meeting of the Wild Things 4-H Club was called to order by Vice President Melanie Buckler at 7:05 pm on November 5, Gabby Wise read the minutes from the last meeting. The treasurer s report was not available. The statement from the bank has not been received. Mrs. Gibbons reported that the club received $58.64 from the Pork Roast. Mrs. Gibbons asked members to complete the re-enrollment forms. The club will pay the re-enrollment fee for current members. New members will be the enrollment fee for the 1 st year and the club will pay for future years. Orders for ear tags are due November 25 th. The 4-H office will be mailing out information. The Ropin Wranglers 4-H Club is having a Quarter Action at the fairgrounds on December 1 st. Information has been provided to the Fair Office for payment of fair premiums and we should be receiving checks soon. The Christmas party is planned for December 8 th. Club members drew names for the gift exchange. There is a $10 limit on gifts. We will also bring a gift for Toys For Tots. The club will have a record book workshop and demonstration night on Tuesday, November 26 th at 6:30 pm. Our next club meeting will be on December 10 th. Mrs. Gibbons asked everyone to think about who they would like to nominate as a Friend of 4-H. Our Club Achievement Banquet will be held at Ledos again. It will be in January. The meeting was adjourned at 7:24 pm. Gabby gave an illustrated talk on cattle breeds. Club members made a Veteran s Day star craft. Gabby and Sydney provided snacks. The December meeting was called to order by President Bryce Hurry at 2:12 pm on December 15, Adam Gibbons read the treasurer s report. Secretary Gabby Wise read a thank you letter from Mt. Zion United Methodist Church for our Thanksgiving food basket donation. Mrs. Gibbons reminded members to complete the re-enrollment forms, diamond clover forms and record books by December 31st. The Tudor Hall 4-H Club is sponsoring a Holiday Craft Workshop on December 20, The club elected officers for Officers are: Melanie Buckler, President Gina Baker, Vice President Savannah Sampson, Secretary Bryce Hurry, Treasurer Emilie Rice, Historian Gabrielle Wise, Sargent of Arms REPORTER S NEWS December 2013 Bryce Hurry told us the officers duties as a leadership demonstration. Savannah Sampson gave an illustrated talk titled Sage My Dog. Gabby Wise gave a demonstration on how to make a reindeer candy cane craft. Everyone made the craft. We exchanged holiday gifts and we shared a Christmas snack. The meeting was adjourned at 3:30.
