Important Information about your Examinations 2017
Exams at Manshead It is the aim of Manshead School to make the examination experience as stress-free and successful as possible for all candidates. Hopefully, this booklet will prove informative and helpful for you and your parents. Please read it carefully and show it to your parents so that they can also be aware of the examination regulations and the procedures to follow in the event of any problem occurring. The examination boards have strict criteria which must be followed for the conduct of examinations and Manshead School is required to follow them precisely. If there is anything you do not understand or any question that has not been addressed, PLEASE ASK. If you or your parents have any queries or need help or advice at any time before, during or after the examinations please contact: Mrs Lewis Exams Officer Telephone: x 223 (Exams Office is based in D block, adjacent to the Library) Remember We are here to help!
Your Exam Timetable Your individual exam timetable will be issued through your learning guide. Personal Details Please check that all your personal details are correct. This information will appear on your certificates so it is really important it is correct. See Mrs Lewis in the Exams Office immediately if something is wrong. Individual Timetable This timetable will show your own specific examinations with details of date, time, duration of the exam, venue and seat number. Check it carefully and take a copy in case it gets lost. It will also show your candidate number which you will write on all your exam papers. Clashes Your timetable will have been carefully checked to make sure that there are no clashes. (A clash is when you have two or more exams timetabled at the same time). If you do have clashes you will also receive separate information as you may need to be supervised between exams. Practical Subjects For Art, Design, Drama, Dance, ICT and all Foreign Language orals, exam dates will be agreed with your teacher and therefore will not be on your individual timetable. Examination Times 9.00am for the morning session 1.30pm for the afternoon session These are the usual start times but candidates are responsible for checking their own timetable and arriving at school on the correct day and time, in school uniform and with the correct equipment. Candidates must arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of the examination. Please wait quietly outside your exam venue. For the Sports Hall please line up outside, under the corresponding letter of the row in which you are to be seated.
Equipment you will need Please make sure you have the correct equipment for the exam eg: black pens, pencils, erasers, ruler and a calculator. If you bring in a pencil case it must be a clear plastic one. Pencil cases are not allowed on the desk, unless they are clear plastic. You must be in full school uniform for your exams. The Examination Bags are not allowed in the Sports Hall, please leave your bags in your blocks and take any valuables to the exam venue with you. Please make sure you have used the toilet facilities prior to the exam. Once you enter the exam venue you are under examination conditions. You must not speak to other candidates. Sit in the seat indicated on your individual timetable, checking that it is your candidate identity card on the desk. If not please raise your hand and an invigilator will assist you. Do not attempt to communicate with or distract other candidates. Looking around and smiling at other candidates is classed as communication. Please sit and face the front at all times. MOBILE PHONES MUST BE TURNED OFF BEFORE ENTERING THE EXAMINATION ROOM. You will find a zipped bag on your desk with your desk number on. Your phone, MP3 player, iwatch or any other electrical device must be placed into this bag. It will be collected by the invigilators and stored securely at the front of your exam row. These will be given back to you at the end of the exam. If a mobile phone/smartwatch (or any other type of electronic communication or storage device) is found in your possession during an examination (even if it is turned off) it will be taken from you and a report made to the appropriate exam board. This could result in disqualification from the examination. No exceptions can be made. Food is not allowed in the examination room. Only still water in a clear plastic bottle is allowed (any labels should be removed). Queries regarding medicines, etc, should be addressed to the Exams Office.
You will be asked to check that you have the correct exam paper - check the subject and that you have the correct level i.e. Foundation or Higher. If something is wrong put your hand up and wait for an invigilator to come to you. Read all instructions carefully and number your answers clearly. Listen carefully to instructions and notices read out by the Exams Officer/Invigilators there may be amendments to the exam paper that you need to know about. Please do not write on examination desks or your desk cards. This is regarded as vandalism and you will be asked to clean the desks or even pay for the damage. Do not draw or graffiti on examination papers as the examination board may refuse to accept your paper. Candidates must stay in the examination room for the duration of the exam and may not leave early. If you have finished the paper use any time remaining to check over your answers and ensure that you have completed your details correctly. At the end of the exam all work must be handed in remember to cross out any rough work. If you have used more than one answer book or loose sheet(s) of paper, ask for a treasury tag to fasten them together in the correct order, ensure your details are written on each booklet/sheet of additional of paper. Invigilators will collect your exam papers before you leave the room. Absolute silence must be maintained during this time. Remember you are still under examination conditions until you have left the room. Remain seated until told to leave the examination room. Please leave the room in silence and show consideration to other candidates who may still be working. What to do if you are ill in the examination session If you are taken ill during an exam you should put up your hand and tell an invigilator. If you are too ill to continue with the paper the Exams Department will apply to the Examination Board for this to be taken in to consideration when your paper is marked. If you are ill before an examination and therefore unable to sit the paper please telephone the Exams Office to inform us. It may be possible for this to be taken into consideration depending on the circumstances.
What happens if you are late or miss an examination Candidates who arrive late for an examination may still be admitted if they arrive within an hour of the official start time, but will not receive any additional time unless agreed with the Examinations Officer. Please wait outside the room for Invigilator to seat you. If you are absent from any examination without good reason you will be asked to pay for the whole exam fee. Results and certificates cannot be issued if you have outstanding fees. Cheating It is the duty of the Exams Office to ensure that all cases of cheating in connection with an examination are reported to the Examining Board. To make absolutely sure that you are not suspected of cheating: DO NOT talk to any other student once you enter the exam room. DO NOT have anything on your desk except examination stationery and equipment needed. DO NOT have anything written on your hands or arms. DO NOT pass anything to another candidate. DO NOT risk keeping your phone in your pocket or wearing an SMARTWATCH this could result in disqualification. If you are concerned about anything put up your hand and speak to an invigilator. Make sure your read the documents issued by the Exam Board A copy of the Information/Warning to Candidates, which is issued jointly by all the Examining Boards, is printed at the back of this booklet. All Candidates must read this carefully and note that to break any of the examination rules or regulations could lead to disqualification from all subjects. The school must report any breach of regulations to the Awarding Body. All documents including controlled assessment and coursework rules can be viewed on the portal under student/exams/exam documents.
