Proof of tribal enrollment or ¼ blood or member of federally non-recognized tribe (refer to Eligibility). 3. Artists bio. If applying for a class Instructor position, include your instruction experience in your bio or on a separate paper. Eligibility The artists must provide documentation that he/she is an enrolled member of an American Indian federally recognized tribe or Canadian First Nation, or present documentation of at least ¼ degree North American Indian blood from the Bureau of Indian Affairs or the Department of Indian Affairs. Acceptance of documented membership in a federally nonrecognized tribe will be determined by the WIA Board.

3 Requirements and Standards All artwork must be original handcrafted work produced by the exhibiting artist. Artwork may not be the result of work by any person other than the artist submitting the artwork. Artwork submitted for competition must have been completed in the last year, i.e. June 2015 to July Artwork which has previously won ribbons at prior WIASM is not eligible for competition. All decorative stone, shell or metal elements (such as turquoise and cabochons) must be properly identified. All feathers, animal skins, animal bones, etc. must comply with current laws and regulations of state and federal agencies, including, but not limited to the Endangered Species Act. NOTE: Art judges have asked for an artists explanation of the creative expression in the artwork submitted for competition. This is particularly important for our Theme category Mother Earth. Categories 2-Dimensional Art Examples: Painting, Drawing, Prints & Photography Prints must be hand-pulled in a limited edition of no more than 250 (per the 1990 Visual Artists Rights Act), signed by the artist and consecutively numbered. Photographs must be matted, signed, and numbered, not to exceed editions of 50. Photomechanical reproductions (i.e. note cards, posters and t-shirts) are not allowed unless the artist categorizes his/her artwork as Contemporary 3-Dimensional Art Examples: Sculpture, Beadwork, Basketry & Dolls Cast sculptures must be signed and numbered, not to exceed editions of 50. Functional Items & Apparel Examples: Clothing, Jewelry, Beadwork, Rattles & Drums Raised Beadwork Iroquois Raised Beadwork is a beading technique that creates three-dimensional shapes by sewing beads in raised arches or by sewing beads over beads. As noted on the application, if your artwork contains raised beadwork and you submit your piece to a different category, the WIASM Head Judge reserves the right to place your piece of artwork in the Raised Beadwork category. Pottery Examples: All handmade traditional and contemporary pottery forms. Allowable with disclosure: kiln-fired and/or double fired pottery; pottery made with commercial materials, such as clay glazes and temper. All decorative stone, shell or metal elements (such as turquoise and coral cabochons), and shell glass or metal beads must be properly identified and comply with the Requirements and Standards. Non-Allowable: No greenware or slip mold commercial pottery is allowed. Theme Category: Mother Earth This category is similar to a Traditional art category, as it includes only those items that use original products from Mother Earth, no commercial materials. Youth An accepted artist may sponsor work from American Indian Youth ages for no extra fee. Youth artwork may be sold at the artists booth or submitted for competition in the Youth category. Accepted Artist is fully responsible for their sponsored youth including a signed permission slip if the Artist is not the parent or guardian of the youth. One piece of artwork may be entered for competition in the general Youth category, which includes all forms of art described as eligible. There is a 1 st and 2 nd place winner for the overall best Youth artwork as determined by the Judges.

All other youth entries may be picked up after the reception on Friday at 8pm. Youth entries are accepted at no fee. Your application is complete when you send the following: 1. 5 APPLICATION FOR CLASS INSTRUCTORS Class instructors are selected from applications to the Woodland Indian Art Show & Market. Selection is based on: Variety of Woodland Indian Art, i.e. each class will provide a different art venue. Relevance of the Lesson Plan to the mission of Woodland Indian Art Show and Market. Quality of the artwork and the Lesson Plan. Achievability of the proposal based on hours available. Level of public participation included in the Lesson Plan. Applicant s experience as an instructor. Lesson Plan will not be accepted after March 1, 2016, and must be submitted with the artists application to the Woodland Indian Art Show and Market. Honorarium Class instructors receive a $500 honorarium for the class. Lesson Plan should include: 1. Steps to finish a piece of art. 2. Hours needed to complete the class. See schedule of market hours in the Greetings letter. Two 4-hour classes are scheduled on Saturday and Sunday. 3. Picture(s) of finished product. 4. Age or skill specification, if any. 5. Charge to student for materials or additional services. Please explain. It is the responsibility of each instructor to supply all art materials for their proposed class. 6. Narrative explaining the cultural/historical relevance of the art piece, and its use. 7. It is the responsibility of each instructor to have reliable coverage for your booth during class time or let a WIA volunteer know you need help.
