1 Jobs in Richmond Hot Facts Introduction This issue of Hot Facts examines the number and the occupational categories of Richmond jobs. Jobs within Richmond are those that are held by: y Richmond workers who live in Richmond; y those workers who reside elsewhere, but who listed Richmond as their place of work in the 2011 National Household Survey (NHS). Statistics Canada provides information regarding the number of workers, their age, gender, occupation and income level. The Hot Facts issue called Labour and Mode of Travel to Work provides information about labour force activity and work force occupations of Richmond residents no matter where they work. This issue of Hot Facts examines the number of jobs and occupational categories in Richmond held by workers no matter where they live. Richmond Jobs The 2011 National Household Survey indicates that there are 102,580 jobs in Richmond with a fixed workplace and an additional 7,365 jobs held by those who worked at home. It is estimated that there were another 16,160 workers in Richmond with no fixed place of work. These include contractors, construction labourers, truck drivers, couriers and taxi drivers. 2 Number of Richmond Jobs by Major Occupation Category The largest category of jobs in Richmond are in the sales and service occupations (29.3%) and business, finance and administration occupations (18.6%). A large proportion (55.18%) stay in Richmond for work, with 27.4% travelling to Vancouver to work. 6 Net Movement of Labour (In and Out of Richmond) The following table illustrates the proportion of Richmond s labour force that either remain in Richmond to work each day (i.e., fixed place of work) and the proportion of Richmond s labour force that leave Richmond to work elsewhere (to a fixed place of work). Approximately 7,600 more workers stay in Richmond for work compared to those that leave Richmond for work. An additional 61,020 workers who live outside Richmond come to Richmond each day for work. The difference between those workers leaving Richmond for jobs elsewhere and those coming to Richmond for jobs results in a net incoming flow of 27,955 workers coming to Richmond for work.
