3 4 5 Together we can create a better society How your fundraising will support disabled people and their families to lead the lives they choose. 10 could fund a half hour chat with our helpline staff. 270 could pay for a home visit to families with a newly diagnosed child with cerebral palsy. 450 could support 10 disabled people to train for work. 1,700 could give a disabled child their first fully adapted trike. 3,000 could buy a communication aid to help disabled students learn and develop. We re all about changing society for the better, so that disabled people and their families can have the same opportunities as everyone else. 5 8 Simple fundraising Get creative 9 Follow our four simple steps: Step one Set up an online fundraising page at so people can donate quickly and easily more about this on page 14. Step two Download templates and tools. Scope s website is full of posters, printable collection boxes, sponsor forms and other downloads, like games, to help you. Step three Make a fundraising plan. Use this pack to pick out ideas to break your fundraising down into achievable chunks and stick your plan on your fridge. When Kerry was fundraising for her community project in Cambodia, she came up with a clever way to make money I contacted a local nightclub to ask if I could collect for Scope on the door as people entered the club. 7 12 Making things easy Simon s family friend was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and was impressed by the support that Scope Response, our disability helpline, gave the family. To help this vital service, Simon ran the Virgin London Marathon. Here s his tips: 1. Have a mix of quick and easy things like a sweepstake and some that take a little more planning, like a BBQ. 2. Add images to your online pages the funnier the better. 3. I started with a few easy ideas and got more and more ambitious as I went on. It really became part of my challenge. 8 14 Get online Click and go 15 Set up an online fundraising page with Virgin Money Giving so people can donate quickly and easily. Visit Your money will come directly to Scope there s no need for you to do anything! Increase some of your fundraising by 25% with Gift Aid. Gift Aid is a great way to boost your fundraising. If you receive a donation from a UK tax payer, Scope can claim back 25p for every 1 donated. So, if someone donates 100 to your fundraising, this then becomes 125. Here are some simple fundraising ideas you can do online: Use your social networks Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn Write a blog about your training and fundraising your local press and get your story in the paper Put your giving page into your signature Put our story on your work intranet site Send out an to your personal and work contacts Set up an online fantasy football league Put interesting stories and photos on your fundraising page Set up a website for your event and sell space to companies Get people to sponsor you to put up embarrassing photos of you on Facebook Sell some of your unwanted items on ebay It s simple. All you need to do is keep an accurate record of your donations on your fundraising page or sponsorship form and we will claim on behalf of you and add it to your total. 9 16 Super simple ideas Something with friends 17 Keep a swear box in your office or at home Do a sponsored silence, wax or shave Get people to donate their 1 trolley coins or gym lockers Car boot sale or sell stuff on ebay Cake sale Guess how many sweets in the jar Organise a car wash in your local area Sweepstakes, like who will win X Factor, or guessing your running time Ask for sponsorship or raffle prizes instead of birthday or Christmas presents Treasure hunt Wouldn t it be great if some templates were already made to kick start this? There are! Check out Events are a great way to get together with friends while boosting your fundraising. There are a few things to consider: Ask for help whether it s coming up with ideas, helping to organise or selling tickets, ask friends and family to get involved. Consider costs write a budget detailing costs, what can be obtained for free and how much you hope to raise. Venue try to get the venue for free or have the event at home. Timing consider the best time to hold the event and how long you need to plan it, for example, over Easter or Hallowe en Publicity promoting your event is crucial; send invitations to friends, family and colleagues by , Facebook or post. On the day think about other opportunities to raise money such as a raffle, an auction or selling cakes. 11 20 Break it down Breaking up your fundraising into chunks can really help it seem easy. Here are some suggestions on how much you can raise: 400 supermarket collections 400 live band night or disco 350 family fun day 300 sponsorship from friends and family 300 matched fundraising from your employer 250 quiz night 200 car boot sale 150 dinner party or curry night 150 local car wash 150 sponsored exercise class 100 dress down day at work 100 cake sale at work 60 sweepstake 50 swear box 50 mobile phone recycling Money in the bank You ve raised the cash, now pay it in! There are five ways to do this: 1. Online giving: your money that comes through Virgin Money Giving will go directly to Scope. 2. Bank transfer: you can make an online bank transfer directly to Scope. Contact us to get the reference and bank details. 3. Over the phone: call us and we will be able to take an instant payment over the phone and the money will be added to your fundraising total. 4. By cheque: make cheques payable to Scope with your name and your event clearly stated on the back. Please send cheques to Scope, 6 Market Road, London N7 9PW. 5. Paying in slip: you will receive a paying in slip in your fundraising pack. You can take cash or a cheque to any NatWest bank to pay these directly to the Scope account.
