3 GDPC and purescale enhancements Enhancement of purescale to support a geographically dispersed purescale cluster (GDPC) since DB2 V10.1FP2 Several improvements: In DB210.5 offline backups can be migrated into a purescale instance by applying restore Support of HADR performance improvement by using explicit hierarchical locking (EHL) Inplace online reorg with adaptive compression Omitting index locks caused by random assignment of the index values Installing Fixpacks on a running purescale cluster Individual STMM tuner per cluster member WLM workload balancing per member subsets Simplified installation without remote root login as well as passwordless SSH for root 5 Functionality and recovery enhancements New explain information for column-organized tables For example, the CTQ plan operator from the table queue (TQ) operator set represents the transition between column- and row-organized data processing Expression-based indexes improve query performance It is an extension to the CREATE INDEX statement for creating an index that contains an expression-based key Those indexes enable the creation of an index on data that is not stored in a table However, there are (still) limitations regarding data types and applicable functions Script support for DB2 Advanced Copy Services (ACS) In previous releases snapshot backups via ACS worked mainly with IBM hardware Now it is possible to integrate scripts to use also a variety of third-party storage systems together with snapshots 6 3

4 SQL compatibility enhancements Extended row size support Enables the creation of a table whose row length can exceed the max. record length for the page size of the table space Altering tables to take advantage of that extention is possible If a row length exceeds the max. record length for the table space, a subset of the varying length string columns is stored as LOB data outside of the data row The table column in the base row is replaced by a descriptor that is 24 bytes in size NULL keys can be excluded from indexes The EXCLUDE NULL KEYS clause on the CREATE INDEX statement is used to reduce the size of sparse indexes 7 Data server clients, drivers and troubleshooting enhancements Common client and driver enhancements Multiple names for the db2driver.cfg file can now be specified by using the registry variable DB2DRIVER_CFG_PATH Call level interface (CLI) driver enhancements (v10.5 GA and FP2) In general, for the DB2 HA feature, for calling stored procedures JDBC and SQLJ support has been enhanced (v10.5 GA and FP2) A couple of global configuration properties (like db2.jss.sslconnection) are new A variety of Connection and DataSource properties are new New command parameters for db2pd and db2support db2pd [-extentmovement -membersubsetstatus -subsetid] 8 4
