1 IPC - 1 st Semester Physics Introduction: Scientific Investigation and Reasoning Skills (3 A/B days) IPC Process TEKS: 1A demonstrate safe practices during laboratory and field investigations. 1B demonstrate an understanding of the use and conservation of resources and the proper disposal or recycling of materials. 2A know the definition of science and understand that it has limitations, as specified in subsection (b)(2) of this section. 2B plan and implement investigative procedures, including asking questions, formulating testable hypotheses, and selecting equipment and technology. 2C collect data and make measurements with precision. (begin solving for a variable: ex. speed = d/t) 2D organize, analyze, evaluate, make inferences, and predict trends from data. 2E communicate valid conclusions. 3A in all fields of science, analyze, evaluate, and critique scientific explanations by using empirical evidence, logical reasoning, and experimental and observational testing, including examining all sides of scientific evidence of those scientific explanations, so as to encourage critical thinking by the student. 3B communicate and apply scientific information extracted from various sources such as current events, news reports, published journal articles, and marketing materials. 3C draw inferences based on data related to promotional materials for products and services. 3D evaluate the impact of research on scientific thought, society, and the environment. 3E describe connections between physics and chemistry and future careers. 3F research and describe the history of physics and chemistry and contributions of scientists.

2 IPC - 1 st Semester Physics Bundle 1 - Motion, Force, and Momentum 16 A/B Days Finish Oct 7 Introduction: Scientific Investigation and Reasoning Skills (3 A/B days) Section 1: Motion: Position, speed, and Acceleration (8 A/B days) Process TEKS: I.2CDE; I.3A (See Introduction for the TEKS) Calculating Aspects of Motion (I.4A) Measure and Graph Motion (I.4B) I.4A describe and calculate an {object's motion} in terms of position, displacement, speed, and acceleration. I.4B measure and graph {distance and speed} as a function of time using moving toys. Section 2: Motion: Forces and Momentum (5 A/B days) Process TEKS: I.2CDE; I.3F (See Introduction for the TEKS) Inertia (I.4C) Force, Mass, and Acceleration Action and Reaction (I.4E) (I.4D) Newton s Laws of Motion I.4C 1 st Law - investigate how an {object's motion changes} only when a net force is applied, including activities and equipment such as toy cars, vehicle restraints, sports activities, and classroom objects. I.4D 2 nd Law - assess the {relationship between force, mass, and acceleration}, noting the relationship is independent of the nature of the force, using equipment such as dynamic carts, moving toys, vehicles, and falling objects. I.4E 3 rd Law - apply the concept of {conservation of momentum} using action and reaction forces such as students on skateboards.

3 IPC - 1 st Semester Physics Bundle 2 - Energy and Waves 14 A/B Days Finish Nov 16 Section 1: Potential and Kinetic Energy (5 A/B days) Process TEKS: I.2BCDE (See Introduction for the TEKS) Kinetic Energy (I.5A) Potential Energy (I.5B) Conservation of Energy (I.5D) I.5A recognize and demonstrate that {objects and substances in motion} have kinetic energy such as vibration of atoms, water flowing down a stream moving pebbles, and bowling balls knocking down pins. I.5B demonstrate {common forms of potential energy}, including gravitational, elastic, and chemical, such as a ball on an inclined plane, springs, and batteries. I.5D investigate the law of {conservation of energy}. Section 2: Wave Energy (9 A/B days) Process TEKS: I.2BE (See Introduction for the TEKS) Characteristics of Waves (I.5G) Behaviors of Waves (I.5G) I.5G explore the characteristics and behaviors of {energy transferred by waves}, including acoustic, seismic, light, and waves on water as they superpose on one another, bend around corners, reflect off surfaces, are absorbed by materials, and change direction when entering new materials.

4 IPC - 1 st Semester Physics Bundle 3 - Energy Transfer and Society 8 A/B Days Finish Dec 15 Section 1: Electricity (4 A/B days) Process TEKS: I.2AE; I.3E (See Introduction for the TEKS) Electric Motors and Generators (I.5C) Series and Parallel Circuits (I.5F) Gravitational Attraction (I.4F) Electrical Force (I.4G) I.5C demonstrate that {moving electric charges} produce magnetic forces and {moving magnets} produce electric forces. I.5F evaluate the {transfer of electrical energy} in series and parallel circuits and conductive materials. I.4F describe the {gravitational attraction} between objects of different masses at different distances, including satellites. I.4G examine {electrical force} as a universal force between any two charged objects and compare the {relative strength} of the electrical force and gravitational force. Section 2: Thermal Energy (2 A/B days) Process TEKS: I.1A; I.2E; I.3A (See Introduction for the TEKS) Thermal Energy (I.5E) I.5E investigate and demonstrate the {movement of thermal energy} through solids, liquids, and gases by convection, conduction, and radiation such as in weather, living, and mechanical systems. (include specific heat calculations) Section 3: The Impact of Energy on Society (2 A/B days) Process TEKS: I.1B; I.2DE; I.3C (See Introduction for the TEKS) Sources of Energy Conversions and Their Impact (I.5HI) I.5H analyze {energy conversions} such as those from radiant, nuclear, and geothermal sources; fossil fuels such as coal, gas, oil; and the movement of water or wind. I.5I critique the {advantages and disadvantages} of various energy sources and their impact on society and the environment.

(review basic atomic structure) Section 2: Properties of Elements and Compounds (8 A/B days) Process TEKS: I.1A; I.2CDE (See Introduction for the TEKS) Chemical Properties (I.6B) Elements and Compounds (I.6C) I.6B I.6C relate {chemical properties} of substances to the arrangement of their atoms or molecules. analyze {physical and chemical properties} of elements and compounds such as color, density, viscosity, buoyancy, boiling point, freezing point, conductivity, and reactivity. (include specific heat)

7 IPC - 2 nd Semester Chemistry Bundle 5 - Changes and Reactions in Matter 21 A/B Days Finish Apr 27 Section 1: Changes in Matter (9 A/B days) Process TEKS: I.2BDE; I.3A (See Introduction for the TEKS) Chemical Behavior and the Periodic Table (I.6D) Isotopes and Ions (I.6D) Changes in State and Energy Transfer (I.7A) Valence Electrons and Chemical Changes (I.7B) I.6D relate the {physical and chemical behavior} of an element, including bonding and classification, to its placement on the Periodic Table. I.7A investigate {changes of state} as it relates to the arrangement of particles of matter and energy transfer I.7B recognize that {chemical changes} can occur when substances react to form different substances and that these interactions are largely determined by the valence electrons. Section 2: Chemical Reactions Process TEKS: I.2DE; I.3BD (12 A/B days) (See Introduction for the TEKS) Role of Valence Electrons in Chemical Changes Conservation of Mass (I.7C) Energy Changes in Chemical Reactions (I.7D) Nuclear Reactions (I.7E) (I.7B) I.7B recognize that {chemical changes can occur} when substances react to form different substances and that these interactions are largely determined by the valence electrons. I.7C demonstrate that {mass is conserved} when substances undergo chemical change and that the number and kind of atoms are the same in the reactants and products. I.7D analyze {energy changes} that accompany chemical reactions such as those occurring in heat packs, cold packs, and glow sticks and classify them {as exothermic or endothermic} reactions. I.7E describe types of {nuclear reactions} such as fission and fusion and their roles in applications such as medicine and energy production.
