1 AP-51x1 Mesh Demo Quick Setup Guide The purpose of this document is to provide instructions on how to quickly setup and demonstrate AP-51x1 Mesh functionality using three APs. Two scenarios will be addressed through this document #1) Two Base Bridges (Redundant) and one Client Bridge #2) Two hop mesh network with Base Bridge Client Bridge Base Bridge Client Bridge Scenario#1: 1

2 In this scenario, we have three nodes in the mesh network: AP#1 which is the active Base Bridge AP#2 which is the redundant Base Bridge AP#3 which is the Client Bridge which connects to both AP#1 and AP#2 simultaneously Configuring AP#1 Step#1) Provide a known IP Address to the LAN1 Interface. Note: You can enable the LAN1 Interface of AP#1 as a DHCP Server of you intend to associate mobile units and require them to get the IP Address via DHCP. Step#2) Assign a Mesh STP Priority of to LAN1 Interface 2

3 Step#3) Create a Mesh Wireless LAN 3

4 Step#4) Enable Base Bridge functionality on the a radio 4

5 Step#5) Configure a channel for the a radio 5

6 Step#6) You can create another wlan mapped to bg radio for mobile units if required 6

7 Configuring AP#2 AP#2 needs to be configured identically with the following exceptions: 1) Assign an IP Address to the LAN1 Interface different than that of AP#1 2) Assign a higher Mesh STP Priority to the LAN1 Interface Note: In general deployment, all Base Bridges can be configured for a Mesh STP Priority of Here, we use different values to force AP#1 to be the forwarding link since it s a small mesh network with APs placed close to each other Important: Ensure that AP#1 and AP#2 are use the same channel for the a radio Configuring AP#3 Step#1) Provide a known IP Address to the LAN1 Interface 7

8 Step#2) Assign the maximum value for Mesh STP Priority which is

9 Step#3) Create a Mesh Wireless LAN with Enable Client Bridge Backhaul option checked. Note: This wlan should not be mapped to any radio. 9

10 Step#4) Enable Client Bridge functionality on the a radio and choose the Mesh Network Name as the name of the wlan created in Step#3. Note: You don t need to configure any channel settings on the Client Bridge, it automatically finds the Base Bridges and uses the channel of the Base Bridges. 10

11 Step#4) You can create another wlan mapped to bg radio for mobile units if required 11

12 Now, you have your three AP demo mesh network ready. You can associate an mu each on the wlans configured on the bg radio of each of these APs and pass traffic among them. 12

13 Scenario#2: Note: By default, the Mesh Algorithm runs Automatic Link Selection algorithm to determine the best possible active and redundant links. If the APs are not far apart, then the algorithm intelligently chooses the single hop link to forward data. To force mesh APs to use multiple hops for demo purposes, manual link selection can be used. The details of configuration are given below: In this scenario, we have three nodes in the mesh network: AP#1 which is the Base Bridge AP#2 which is the Client Bridge - Base Bridge AP#3 which is the Client Bridge 13

14 Configuring AP#1 AP#1 configuration is exactly identical to Scenario#1, no changes required Configuring AP#2 AP#2 requires the following modifications to the configuration that it used for Scenario#1 1) Enable Client Bridge Backhaul on the Mesh wireless lan 2) Enable Client Bridge and Base Bridge functionality on the a radio 14

15 Configuring AP#3 The only change that needs to be made on AP#3 with respect to the configuration that it used for Scenario#1 is to disable Auto Link Selection under Advanced Client Bridge settings for the a radio and add the a Radio MAC Address (BSSID MAC Address in this case the Mesh wlan is mapped to BSS1 of the a radio on all APs, so Radio MAC Address which is same as BSSID#1 MAC Address is to be used) of AP#2 to the Preferred Base Bridge List. You will see both AP#1 and AP#2 Radio MAC Addresses in the Available Base Bridge List, and you can add the AP#2 MAC Address by using the arrow button into the Preferred Base Bridge List. 15
