1 SH 183 AND SH 199 CORRIDOR WORKSHOP DESIGN CONCEPTS Concepts developed and presented September 10 th 13 th, 2012 One of the Planning for Livable Military Communities project initiatives is to create corridor plans for roadways in the project study area. State Highways 183 and 199 were chosen because they impact multiple study area jurisdictions, offer redevelopment potential, support high traffic volumes, and provide opportunities for transit and bicycle/pedestrian activities. Design concepts for the corridors were developed at visioning workshops that incorporated public input. 1

2 These images represent existing conditions along SH 183 and SH 199. There are an abundance of automobile-oriented uses along the corridors and limited pedestrian facilities. Although there are few sidewalks along the two corridors, pedestrians still walk throughout the area. 2

These values, challenges, and vision statements were prevalent among participating residents and served as the basis for the workshop teams concepts and interventions. 3

4 SH 183 Corridor SH 183: From IH 30 to SH 199 The study area limit for SH 183 is from IH 30 to SH

11 DESIGN CONCEPT The proposed trail adjacent to the corridor preserves the rural character of the roadway surroundings. 11

12 DESIGN CONCEPT This graphic illustrates possible redevelopment nodes near or along the two corridors. These redevelopment areas include a recreational area near Lake Worth, the intersection of Meandering Road and SH 183, and the southern corner of SH 183 and SH

13 DESIGN CONCEPT This diagram shows the site in the southern quadrant of the SH 183/SH 199 intersection. The street and block structure are designed to allow a big box retailer to take up one entire block; therefore, in the event that the big box site is redeveloped in the future, the infrastructure is ready for redevelopment with pedestrian-scaled blocks and streets. 13

14 Existing On-Street Proposed On-Street Existing Off-Street Proposed Off-Street DESIGN CONCEPT This map illustrates a proposed conceptual bike network for the study area. The network may include existing and planned recommendations from the Regional Veloweb and Bike Fort Worth, as well as feedback received from the participants in the workshop. Criteria for the delineation of the final recommended bike network may include proximity to schools and open space, low-speed roads, and minimal intersections with main arterial streets. 14

15 IH 30/SH 183 Interchange Camp Bowie/ SH 183 Traffic Circle EXISTING CONCEPT This photo illustrates the possibility of redesigning the IH 30/SH 183 interchange to allow for a more connected network of parallel routes that would enhance interstate access. A redesign of the traffic circle south of IH 30 was also discussed. A third street can be connected to the south to further fill in the network and offer drivers more connections and routes. A park is proposed in the area between the new north-south street and the proposed bike route. The concept proposes to reroute the street behind the existing businesses on the eastern edge to give a proper edge to the park. 15
