5 Program Collaboration and Service Integration Data Security and Confidentiality Guidelines Establish minimum standards to ensure appropriate collection, storage, sharing, and use of data across surveillance and programs areas for NCHHSTP Replace current guidelines for HIV surveillance programs and establish standards for Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB programs /docs/pcsidatasecurityguidelines.pdf Health Equity NCHHSTP sponsored a supplement to Public Health Reports focusing on data systems and their use in addressing social determinants of health. More than 300 CDC employees attended the 2011 NCHHSTP Health Equity Symposium, August 3, The symposium focused on use of data to inform and shape public health policy, practice, and research. Developed health equity language for funding opportunity announcements Global Health Protection and Health Systems Strengthening Released results of clinical trial showing efficacy of a supervised, 12-dose regimen for latent TB infection Collaborated with WHO to estimate global congenital syphilis burden and respond to gonococcal antimicrobial resistance Participated in HIV Trials Network 052 study, which showed early initiation of antiretroviral therapy for HIV-positive heterosexuals led to reductions in transmission. Published results of TDF 2 Study in Botswana on PrEP for heterosexual couples 5

7 Division of Viral Hepatitis DHV revised HCV screening recommendations Released for public comment in May 2012 Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices has recommended adults with diabetes be vaccinated against Hepatitis B (MMWR, December 23, 2011) More than 150 people participated in DVH s symposium on identification, screening and surveillance of HCV infections in the era of improved therapy for hepatitis C in December Division of STD DSTDP has identified 4 areas of strategic focus: Adolescent Sexual Health MSM Sexual Health Congenital Syphilis Gonococcal Antimicrobial Resistance Scaled up efforts to respond to GC Antimicrobial resistance Published NEJM article raising awareness of multi-drug resistant gonorrhea WHO GC AMR Action Plan Congressional briefing planned Upcoming MMWR Concluding thoughts Challenging times for CDC and NCHHSTP Programs at a time when prevention efforts at state and local levels are especially challenged NCHHSTP continues make progress in meeting Center and Division level priorities, while responding to a range of urgent threats and realities Looking ahead, proactive planning for uncertainty; health system transformation; and additional fiscal challenges will be essential 7
