1 Arizona State University Admission Requirements Students applying for freshman admission must meet graduation, aptitude and competency requirements. A freshman is a student who is applying to ASU while enrolled in high school or a student who has not attended college since high school graduation. Graduation Requirement Must be a high school graduate. Home School students, upon completion of secondary school education, should complete the Affidavit of Completion of Secondary School Education. Affidavit must be completed by parent/guardian and notarized. Laboratory sciences must be conducted in real labs. (Lab Questions? - contact ) Home School students with a GED score of 500 or above may be admissible without transcripts. Aptitude Requirement Students must meet one of the following aptitude requirements: 3.0 GPA in competency s ( considered) Top 25% (top 26-50% considered) ACT 22 (24 nonresidents)* SAT Reasoning 1040 (1110 nonresidents)* *ASU does not require the writing portion of these tests. Competency Requirement Admission may be granted with one deficiency in no more than two competency areas. Deficiencies in both math and laboratory science are not acceptable. Students must earn a minimum 2.0 in any subject area. Most competencies may also be met by test scores or college s. English - 4 years (composition/literature based) Math - 4 years - Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra II and one requiring Algebra II as a prerequisite. Laboratory Science - 3 years total (1 year each from any of the following areas are accepted: Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Integrated Sciences, and Physics) Social Science - 2 years (including one year American History) Foreign Language - 2 years (same language) Fine Arts - 1 year

2 University of Arizona Course Work Competency Requirements* All freshman and transfer applicants under age 22 must satisfactorily complete the Arizona Board of Regents work competencies. Refer to the table below for the work competency requirements and for specific scores and/or s needed. To make up any work deficiencies with transferable college s, see the right-hand column in the table below. If you have met a subject area in high school, you do not need to satisfy college work requirements in that area for admission purposes. *Academic aptitude as demonstrated by work competency requirements is one of many factors considered in the review of an application. 3 Social Science 2 units/years One unit of American history; one additional unit from: European/world history, economics, sociology, geography, government, psychology, anthropology Equivalent not available SAT Subject Test scores: American history/social studies: 560 or above; European world culture: 580 or above American history and one 3-credit social science Second language 2 units/years Two units of the same language Attain a minimum score on a national standardized language test,such as AP, CLEP Subject Examination, or SAT Subject Test; or earn certified placement into third college-level semester of higher based on an exam given by an accredited institution of higher education; or other forms of verification are available, please call One year of study in the same language; includes American Sign Language Fine Arts 1 unit/year One unit of fine arts or any combination of two semesters of high school fine arts NA NA fine arts class Applicants must have an unweighted overall grade point average of 2.0 (A=4.0) in each subject area and may not have more than two deficiencies. 4 English Competency Requirement Northern Arizona University Course Requirements of all applicants Four years of high school English (composition/literature based) Minimum test score of 21 on ACT English or 530 on SAT Verbal One transferable three-semester-hour college English composition Mathematics Requirement Four years of high school s including one year each of Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II and an advanced math class for which algebra II is a prerequisite Minimum test score of 24 on ACT Math or 540 on SAT math One transferable three-semester-hour college math for which at least intermediate algebra is a prerequisite Laboratory Science Competency Requirement Three years of high school laboratory science, one year each from Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, or Physics). An integrated science class may be substituted for one required. Two years of high school laboratory science (Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, or Physics) plus minimum SAT II subject test score on one of the following: Chemistry-600, Biology 590, Physics-620, or ACT Science 20. (Subject test score may not be from the same subject as either high school credit earned and may be used to satisfy only one laboratory science unit.) Three transferable four-semester-hour college laboratory science s including one semester each from the following: Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Physics. An integrated laboratory science or an advanced level science may be substituted for one required. Social Science Competency Requirements Meet one of the following from Section A and one from Section B Section A One year of high school American History Minimum Sat II subject test score of 560 on American History/Social Studies One transferable three-semester-hour college American History Section B One year of high school social science (e.g., European History, World History, Economics, Sociology, Geography, Government, Psychology, or Anthropology) Minimum SAT II subject test score of 580 on World History One transferable three-semester-hour college social science

5 Foreign Language Competency Requirement Two years of the same high school foreign language Attainment of minimum score on a national standardized foreign language test: AP 3, CLEP 50 or better, IB 4 or better, and SAT II must place on the 50 percentile or better; or placement into a third semester college foreign language class based on university placement exam results One year of transferable college study in the same foreign language Fine Arts Competency Requirement One year of high school fine arts A combination of two semesters of high school fine arts One transferable three-semester hour college fine arts
