1 Slow Cooker Cozy Carry your slow cooker from potluck to holiday party with this embroidered cozy. Handy flaps protect your hands from the heat, while button closures safely secure it for easy carrying. Project Needs & Notes: - Slow cooker - 1/2 yard quilted cotton fabric (for outer shell and inner lining) - 1/3 yard print quilted cotton (for hot pad flaps and bottom) - 1/3 yard Insul-Bright insulated lining (at 40" wide) - Medium-weight cutaway stabilizer - Air-erase pen for marking - 1 yard of 1" wide strapping (for handle) - Double-fold extra-wide bias tape - Measuring tape - Three 1 3/4" buttons - 3/4 yard of 3/16" wide elastic (for button loops and top straps) - Needle and thread for some hand sewing Designs used in this tutorial include: - M9078, The Elf Made Me Eat It Sizing Notes: The size of my slow cooker is 7 1/2" high by 13" in diameter. These instructions can be used for round or oval shaped slow cookers. Measure the circumference of the slow cooker around the middle. This one measures 32 1/2".

2 Measure from the bottom of the cooker up to the top edge of one of the side handles. This one measures 6". Take the first measurement and add 7 1/2" to determine the width of the outer shell fabric. Our measurement is 32 1/2", so our width is 40". Take the second measurement and add 1" to determine the height of the outer shell fabric. Our measurement is 6", our height is 7". Using an air-erase pen, draw a rectangle on the quilted cotton fabric using your measurements (ours are 40" x 7"). Templates are printouts of embroidery designs, and they are excellent tools for planning where to stitch. Open the embroidery designs in embroidery software and print them to make templates. If you don't have software, try Wilcom's TrueSizer, a free program. Center the template inside the shape. Mark the center point and the horizontal and vertical axis lines.

3 Remove the template. Hoop the fabric and stabilizer together, aligning the marks on the hoop with the marks on the fabric. Attach the hoop to the machine and load the design. Move the hoop so that the needle is directly over the center point. Embroider the design. After the design has finished, trim away the excess stabilizer on the backside of the embroidery. Cut out the shape. Lay the embroidered piece on top

4 of the fabric, wrong sides together, and pin in place. Cut around the shape of the embroidered piece. Wrap bias tape around the ends and top edge and pin in place. Flip the fabric over so the back side is facing up. Cut three strips of elastic to 4 1/2" long. Form the strips into loops and tuck them under the tape along the right end -- pin in place. Wrap the fabric around the cooker with the design centered at the back. Overlap the ends of the fabric and mark the center of each side handle along the top edge of the fabric. To prepare the hot pad flaps, cut two pieces of quilted cotton to

5 5" x 5". Align the pieces together, right sides together, and pin in place. Sew a 1/2" seam along the side and top edges only -- leave the bottom edge open for turning. Turn the fabric right side out and press the seams with an iron. Cut a piece of Insul-Bright to 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" and insert it inside the fabric. Top-stitch a 1/8" seam along the entire outer edge of the fabric. Repeat these steps for a total of 2 flaps. Lay the outer shell fabric flat with the right side facing up.

6 Insert the raw edges of the hot pad flaps under the tape along the top edge of the outer shell. Center the flaps with the marks you made on the top edge of the outer shell. Pin in place. Next, cut two strips of elastic to 11" long. Insert the ends of the strips under the tape alongside each of the flaps and pin in place. Wrap the outer shell around the cooker -- overlap the button strap end on top of the opposite end. Pull the straps out tight and mark the ends of the loops onto the fabric. Cut a piece of Insul-Bright a bit smaller than the outer shell (ours is 39" x 6").

7 Insert it inside the outer shell. Sew a seam along the inner edge of the tape around the side and top edges of the outer shell (this also tacks the elastic strips and hot pad flaps in place). Also, sew a 1/8" seam along the bottom edge to tack the layers together. Add buttons at each mark. To prepare the bottom, lay the cooker cover on top of the fabric, and trace the shape. Measure and make marks 1 1/2"

8 out from the shape. Draw curved lines connecting the marks. Cut out the shape. Lay the outer shell flat with the right side facing up and with the raw edge at the top. Align the edge of the bottom fabric, right sides together, with the center of the raw edge of the outer shell. Pin in place. Sew a 1/4" seam first to the right aligning the raw edge of the bottom piece with the raw edge of the outer shell as you go. Sew all the way to the right end of the outer shell. Then, sew to the left aligning the raw ends as you go. Sew all the way to the left end of the outer shell. Zig-zag or serge along the raw edge. Turn the cozy right side out.

9 Insert the cooker inside the cozy and loop the straps around the buttons. Loop the top straps around the top handle. Flip the hot pad flaps up around the top for easy carrying.
