There are no formal exams at this level, but the children are tested regularly in order to test their knowledge and understanding. The children are working towards Level 4 of the National Curriculum which is closely mirrored by the French programme. One area that will improve this year is access to a library which contains books in, giving the children more opportunity to read a variety of texts as they do in French. Programme/Syllabus: Sharing ideas and taking part in class discussions Reading out loud in a group Talking about pictures, books, events and experiences Reading and comprehension of stories and poems Writing sentences and short stories Reading factual texts Writing lists, letters, instructions and short poems Presenting a project to the class with visual support Making an informative poster Writing simple sentences, using punctuation marks Using nouns, personal and possessive pronouns, collective nouns and adjectives Conjugating verbs in the present, past and future tense. There are no formal exams at this level, but the children are given regular tests by the class teacher to assess their progress. The children are working towards Level 4 of the National Curriculum which correlates closely to the French programme. The teachers have agreed that certain areas of maths will be studied in French, and others in the language sections, e.g. geometry will be done in French. In the programme the children are expected to become familiar with times tables up to 10 x 10 and carry out more mental arithmetic than in the French programme. 4 Présentation et objectifs du cours/ Aims and objectives of the course: To develop an awareness of life processes living things, e.g. growth, habitats, food chains, the human body and personal safety; to understand safety with electricity and identify solids, liquids and gasses. There are no formal exams at this age, but the children will be tested at the end of each study unit to assess their understanding of the subject. The children are working towards Level 4 of the National Curriculum, but there are very few similarities in the French programme. The children will study the human body in both languages. Programme/ Syllabus: Study plants and animals, in particular growth, food chains and diversification Study the human body, muscles and movement Examine solids, liquids and gasses Develop personal safety skills Themes covered : Term 1 : Skeleton and bones Muscles and movement The body and its needs: healthy eating, exercise, sleep etc Term 2: Living/ not living/ has never lived Life processes Classifying living things Food chains Personal safety skills (project in conjunction with other language sections ) Changing states of materials Gasses, liquids and solids *There may be some overlapping of themes from one term to another Classe/ Class: CE2 Section: Matière/ Subject: The Arts Nom de l enseignant/ Teacher s name: Sarah Nombre d heures hebdomadaires/ Number of hours per week: Approx. 1½ hours Présentation et objectifs du cours/ Aims and objectives of the course: To encourage artistic expression, through art, music and movement, both working individually and with others; to encourage observation and evaluation of their own, other children s and famous artists work; to develop greater control over their movements, e.g. variation on speed, direction and level in sport, breathing when singing, pencil control when drawing. There are no formal exams at this age, but the children will be tested at the end of each study unit to assess their understanding of the subject. The children are working towards Level 4 of the National

5 Curriculum and there are many similarities between the and French programmes. The teachers share resources and expertise in order to facilitate the children s learning. Programme/ Syllabus: Explore and develop ideas through observation, research and personal experience Develop skills using various materials and tools Examine colour, pattern and texture, working in two and three-dimensions Look at work by other artists and learn to assess their own and other s work Sing a variety of songs, both in unison and parts Rehearse in order to perform Play percussion instruments, improvising, composing in groups and individually Listen to music, gaining awareness of pitch, rhythm, historical background Begin to use symbols to record music Create and perform dances using a variety of movement patterns, responding to a range of stimuli Play and make up competitive games, using tactics, skills and cooperation Create and perform fluent sequences on the floor and using apparatus, including variation in level, speed and direction Take part in activities which require speed, power or stamina, using running, jumping and throwing skills. The Arts yearly planning : A maximum of themes identified in the programmes will be covered over the school year but it is not possible to detail an exact plan as we are still awaiting notification for the timetabling of certain facilities such as sports rooms/outdoor areas etc. There will usually be a music/choir, sport and art lesson each week (linked to other curriculum areas whenever appropriate). There are no formal exams at this age, but the children will be tested at the end of each study unit to assess their understanding of the subject. The children are working towards Level 4 of the National Curriculum. The period of history relating to the Romans is studied in French and, but prehistory is only covered in French. In geography, the children will examine their local environment in French and and then look at other areas separately. Programme/ Syllabus: Develop a greater understanding of the chronology of events using time lines and specific vocabulary Study the effects of the various Invaders and Settlers of the British Isles up to 1066

6 (with a more focussed study of the Romans (55BC-440AD), including the growth of the empire, conflicts and exploration) Identify social, cultural and religious features of this period, making links between events Develop map-reading skills using globes, atlases and aerial photographs Study the continents and oceans Study the British Isles, the capital cities, countries, counties Examine contrasting areas, e.g. rural and urban environments Humanities yearly planning : Themes covered: Term 1 : Introduction of the history theme «Invaders and Settlers» Chronological timeline The reasons for invading, effects of settling on the native community etc Where did the invaders come from?
