On the AAT Checklist on the back of this page, mark an X in the appropriate column of courses you have already passed (Passed) or are taking in the current semester (Now). 2. Look at the remaining classes you need to take. While considering prerequisites and sequencing of courses, identify the courses you should take during your next semester. Mark an X in the Next Sem. column for each course. Consult the Resource for AAT Planning to help you identify some of these courses. 3. For each course you need to take after next semester, indicate the semester and year you plan to take it in the Future Sem. column. One way to do so is to use F (fall), Sp (spring), Su (summer) and include the year, e.g., F12 for Fall Complete the Class Choices for Next Semester table. (Indicate the Course Number, Day(s) and Times the class section meets, the CRN from the online course schedule, and number of hours.) Keep this Academic Planner, and update it every semester until you earn your AAT. Updating this planner will help ensure that you complete the necessary requirements to earn your degree. Use the planner to help you determine the courses in which you should enroll each semester. Then, meet with one of the Teacher Education Program faculty to review your plans before registering for classes for next semester. Additional Notes Note: The area you intend to pursue and the four-year program you plan to attend will determine some of the courses you need to take. 3 Resource for AAT Planning Jefferson College This resource contains information to help you complete the AAT Academic Planner. General Requirements and Information Students must achieve an overall minimum GPA of 2.5. However, students should strive to earn a much higher GPA than the minimum to enhance their opportunities for future employment. Four-year institutions may offer transfer scholarships for students with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 or 3.5. Students should check with individual institutions for more information. Students must earn a final semester grade of C or better in all education courses and in a developmental psychology course (PSY 201, 202, or 205). Students should strive to earn an A (or at least a B) in all courses. We recommend that students take honors courses when possible. They will enhance your teaching résumé and may help you earn scholarships hours: honors certificate; 12+ hours: honors diploma Criteria (2 of 3): (1) 3.3 GPA, (2) Recommendation of instructor/counselor, (3) ACT of 24/SAT of 1100/COMPASS Writing of 90+ Students must earn a minimum score of 235 on each section of the CBASE in order to earn the AAT Degree. Plan to take the CBASE during the semester you are enrolled in Foundations of Education (EDU210). Note: Some four-year transfer institutions may have additional requirements, including higher GPA or CBASE scores. We encourage students to work closely with an advisor from the receiving institution to understand how to prepare to meet all entrance requirements. 6 Special Considerations Regarding Completing AAT Degree Requirements ALL Teacher Education Students General Considerations Communications ENG101 is a prerequisite for all education courses, except EDU105 All education majors should consider taking a literature class to help prepare for CBASE. Mathematics We strongly recommended that education majors take math as early in their program as possible. Social/Behavioral PSY101 is a prerequisite for PSY 201/202/205; PSY201, 202, OR 205 is a pre- or co-requisite for EDU225 (Educational Psychology). Your enrollment in one of these courses (PSY201/202/205) depends on your area of ; consult a Teacher Education Program faculty member) Note: Although the total number of required general education hours is 42; a student s total may exceed this number because of required courses for.
