1 Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 Scavenger Hunt - Beginner The commands in Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 are similar to that of Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 except the placement is different. This scavenger hunt will help you get acquainted with Microsoft PowerPoint Remember, there is always more than one way to accomplish a task. Launch Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 and notice the new look. A. Examine the screen. How many items are located on the ribbon interface (the old menu tabs)? Name them: i. ii. iii. iv. v. vi. vii. viii. ix. B. The File Tab is new in This is similar to the 2003 File Menu. A. What information does the Info Tab provide? B. What can you find under the Recent Tab? C. What useful templates are located under the New Tab? D. How do I create a new document? Explain. E. How do I go about saving a Microsoft PowerPoint project so that version 2003 would recognize it? Explain. Let s explore some of the commands on the Home Tab. A. With all Microsoft PowerPoint tabs you can identify their purpose by hovering over the item with your mouse. Hint: you may have to click one of the boxes on the slide to un-gray the icons. B. Name at least five items that you would use during a project under this tab. i. i 1

2 C. Which icon would you use to insert a new slide? D. What is the keyboard short-cut for this process? E. Name at least two commands that you are not familiar with and investigate what they do to help you better understand PowerPoint? Explain. F. Where do I go to change the case (upper or lower case) of text under this tab? G. Which icon would you use to change the text alignment to either center or left justified? H. How many different categories of shapes are there? vi. Try a few for practice by inserting them into the current slide on the screen. I. What icon would you use to clear all formatting on your presentation? J. What do I click to fill a shape? _ K. How do I find and replace text within the document? L. Explain what Shape Effects does? M. What are the options for the Paste command? N. Under the ribbon you will find the words Font and Paragraph among others. If you click the small box to the right of those words, what similarities do you notice from Word 2003? Explain. O. Take a moment to reflect on the Home Tab commands and how placement of these items changed since version Take some notes to help you remember the location of the commands you may use. Let s explore some of the commands under the Insert Tab. F. Name at least five items that you may use under this tab to complete a project. i. i 2

When the picture is loaded, what new Ribbon Tab appears? N. Name at least eight items that are available under this tab. i. ii. iii. iv. v. vi. vii. viii. O. Experiment with the Remove Background command. Once it is clicked, what editing commands are available? i. Where is the back button located in case you want to go back? ii. Experiment with the different options such as picture adjustments, layouts, styles, and effects. 1. What feature do you like best? C. Take some notes to help you remember the location of the commands you may use. Let s explore some of the commands under the Transitions Tab. A. Name at least one item that you may recognize. B. Name at least five items that you would like to know more about and document how they used. You may need to use the help function to accomplish this task C. Experiment on adding transitions to your current slide. What happens once you hover over the transition? Use the drop-down arrow and experiment with the other features. What are your thoughts? D. Take a moment to reflect on the commands in the Transitions Tab. Take some notes to help you remember the location of the commands and how they can be used. Let s explore some of the commands under the Animations Tab. A. Name at least one item you may recognize. 4
