3 Achieving the highest possible standards e value all children and look for the best, ensuring every learner experiences success. e only have high expectations of all the children, ourselves and each other. Our inclusive environment recognises the learning needs of all learners. Only an excellent school environment which inspires, excites, celebrates effort and achievement is acceptable. Achieving through a rich integrated curriculum helped by our strong community link gives children opportunities to make choices, develop links and take responsibility for their learning. At BCPS we give children a thorough grounding in the basics of reading, writing and maths, including good exposure to a wide range of subjects. They enjoy quality learning in the outside classroom and specialist tuition in PE, music and art. They have fun and like coming to school, also learning how to be tolerant, share, take turns, help each other, be confident and know how and when to ask for help. e all work hard to be the best we can be. Pupil There are so many clubs and activites. there s something to suit every child,no matter what they really like. Parent Classrooms are welcoming and provide pupils with a secure and stimulating place to learn Governor

4 Valuing each other in a friendly environment e are fortunate to have a rich and diverse school community. Our provision is excellent, meeting a range of learning needs. e have a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere that does not discriminate on the grounds of gender, ethnicity, culture, religion or ability. e believe in collective worship and are proud to say the children respond extremely well to the diversity in the school. All children have talents to be developed, they may be academic, creative or sporting, but we aim for every child to achieve to the best of their ability. Ensuring a happy, healthy environment in which our children enjoy learning is central to our ethos. e do our utmost to make it easy for children to approach staff just to talk, or even with their problems or concerns. e teach that bullying is never acceptable behaviour. e promote healthy eating, provide fruit snacks and encourage everyone to drink water throughout the day. e make the most of our wonderful outdoor space and weather permitting head outside as often as we can during lessons and breaks. Collaboration and caring is encouraged at all levels, in staff, children and parents. My school makes me feel special because we all work together. Pupil Parent Partnership e believe our relationship with parents/carers is crucial to success and well-being of our children. e really value parents coming into school to celebrate the progress in their child s education. e welcome parent s views and opinions and work hard to keep families well informed about all school matters-through the web-site, meetings, class curriculum information, parents evenings, progress reports, newsletters and parent questionnaires. Parents give invaluable support by their involvement in the Parents and Friends Association raising money through events that include school discos, cake sales, plant sales, Summer and Christmas Fayres and other charity events. e provide a range of family learning opportunities including reading workshops, understanding KS2 SATs for parents, family cooking and family reading club. Parents have opportunities to extend their own learning and also support children s life-long learning. e like to look after each other Pupil

5 Learning A Broad Spectrum The aim of our school curriculum is to equip the children with the essential learning skills of literacy, numeracy, information and communication technology promoting an enquiring mind and capacity to think rationally. Alongside essential knowledge skills and understanding, personal development is a central aspect of our curriculum. Personal skills, such as communication, moral, social and emotional capabilities in our curriculum are closely related to educational attainment and children s well-being. Thinking skills in the curriculum are often related to reasoning, thinking creatively, reflecting, analysing and evaluating. All these various skills are embedded into our cross-curricular objectives e concentrate on learning outcomes, hat a learner knows, understands and is able to do on completion of a process of learning. Our inspirational and well-resourced school environment greatly aids our children s enjoyment in education. All classes have interactive white boards, four computers and access to laptops for each child and a computer suite with thirty computers, preparing them for the 21st century. My children are really happy here. They often come home with stories of how kind the staff have been. Parent

6 Community Links e want parents and children to consider that BCPS is an essential part of the community. Dialogue with the local community is crucial to the development of the whole school ethos. e link with many local businesses for their support and also for their in-school sessions about their work. The local fire, health and police services run workshops for children and parents to help them understand their service and its benefits. uthors come into school and read and work with the children helping to develop their enjoyment and enthusiasm for reading. e make visits in the local community to, places of worship from different faiths, museums, parks, local farms and gardens as well as taking part in local events. any of our ow factors which enrich our curriculum start the topic off and may include a visit locally or even someone coming into such as, a local gospel choir, brass band, orchestra, Mad scientist, Aztec artefacts, animal specialist or even a theatre group. 7 ider Horizons e enjoy a range of exciting extra-curricular activities. All our clubs are run free of charge. Clubs vary depending on demand and the season but regularly take place at lunchtimes, after-school and even holiday times. e sometimes have residential trips for Years 5 and 6. Lunchtimes: Specialist sports coaching at the Grove centre Sports clubs Nurture club Gardening club Music lessons ICT Club After school: Girls club (sports, cooking, visits) Gifted and talented sports club Archery Volleyball Basketball/netball/football Art Club Cooking Club Breakfast Club The clubs are a chance to try something new. e have a full time sports coach who teaches all age groups, school teams and has developed our strong sporting traditions and achievements which have included: National and County Basketball Champions 2010, County Finalists 2011 County cup football champions The Rice Bowl 2010 Leicester City Netball and Football league and cup champions 2010 Leicester City Netball league and tournament champions 2011
