1 Long Term Payer Deveopment PLAYERS in Stage 5 are adut payers (18+ years of age) and are focused on Speciaising in paying positions. Payers shoud identify with specific paying positions and their aim in training is to improve themseves in their chosen roe, i.e., functiona skis which reate to their positiona requirements, for effectiveness in Unit performance. Off-fied factors now add a ot of vaue as we as on fied strategic, tacticay and technica factors. Payers wi be baancing their persona/socia/vocationa investment of time and wi prioritise these areas at different times of the year. The menta capacities of the payer means she has the abiity to manage her preand post-match preparatory and recovery techniques. The physica fitness eement of this stage invoves the gradua and appropriate progression of strength, speed and condition training dependent on abiity (i.e. payer specific programmes). Consistent reenforcement of proper technique during exercise is paramount. An appropriate periodised season pan for fitness and the competition mode shoud work together. The coaching emphasis at Stage 5 is to Share the earning experience with the payers, encouraging and providing the payers with more responsibiity in their deveopment. However, the coach may aso utiise Faciitating, Encouraging, Teaching and Guiding skis. Once again training shoud be highy competitive to chaenge the individuas in order to further deveop the payer s abiity to navigate rather than repicate. The game at this stage is 15-a-side rugby where payers are now position specific. The focus is now on achieving outcomes, i.e., the Principe of Pressure with respect to attack and defence. This stage is about maximising the potentia of the payer and providing a game which assists with a payer s deveopment a the way through to the Nationa team if that s where her path may ead to. 32

3 Essence of the Payer Payers in Stage 5 are adut payers (18+ years of age) and are focused on Speciaising in paying positions. Essence of the Coach The coaching emphasis at Stage 5 is to Share the earning experience with the payers, encouraging and providing the payers with more responsibiity in their deveopment. However, the coach may aso utiise Faciitating, Encouraging, Teaching and Guiding skis. Game Deveopment In Stage 5, 1st Phase pay shoud contribute about 35% of the content emphasis with approximatey 65% focus on Genera Movement. Payers shoud now ceary identify with a paying position and spend time deveoping their position specific skis. They shoud aso spend more time deveoping mini-unit and unit skis. Focus is on achieving outcomes through reaising the Principes of Pressure with respect to attack and defence. Payers shoud deveop a greater awareness of Game Appreciation to contribute to effective strategic decision making during matches. Stage 5 - Technica Emphasis Genera Movement 35% 1st Phase 65% Persona Characteristics Focused: Payers wi be focused (on and off the pitch) on chosen career paths. They are aso capabe of proonged periods of concentration with regards to training. Payers tend to be organised, they are required to pan their training and matches around work and/or famiy commitments. Most payers are setted into daiy/weeky routines. Payers in this stage may have significant responsibiities in their ives and so this may affect their rugby. For others, rugby provides the opportunity for recreation, fitness and sociaising. Payers have contro of their ifestye choices and their investment of time is important in this stage. If they re reaising their expectations from training and being part of a team, they see it as a positive and rewarding experience. 34
4 Strategic Deveopment Further deveoping and understanding of Games Appreciation and the appication of the Principes of Pressure in attack and defence. Deveoping an understanding of their team profie and how it infuences payers stye of pay for both team and units. Game pans, strategies and tactics can be deveoped according to the team s payer profie in order to maximise the team s strengths. 35
5 Tactica Deveopment Payers shoud be deveoping probem-soving skis within their functiona roes (attack and defence; Genera Movement and 1st Phase). Functiona Roes: A payer s functiona roe refers to what is required of them to successfuy undertake a task in a Team, Unit or Mini-unit ski. In open pay (Genera Movement) the functiona roes of payers are more situationa than position-specific, as in set-piece pay. Payers shoud further deveop their tactica decision making skis within Genera Movement: ife of the ba group eary group axis group ate group Defence: Deveoping functiona roes and probem soving within defence formations. 1st Phase Focus can now incude the deveopment of Sub-Units (e.g. thrower and jumpers, jumpers and supports, frontrow, backrow, hafbacks, inside 3 backs, back three backs) Greater emphasis on variation and probem soving with regard to tactica decision making. Strategic decision making becomes more predominant with payer profies infuencing the deveopment of attack and defence patterns. Unit focus is now on achieving desired outcomes (through performance of functiona roes). The Team The team s patterns (attack and defence) shoud be we rehearsed and aigned to team profie and opposition profies. Team focus is on appying pressure through achieving pitch position, maintaining possession or scoring points. 1st Phase pay shoud create a favourabe imbaance from which to pay in genera movement (attack and defence). Game Appreciation shoud be deveoped through simuated team scenarios; when, where, what, why. Technica Deveopment Payers and coaches shoud focus on deveoping techniques for Speciaist skis (i.e. speciaist skis for paying position chosen). Training environment shoud simuate match conditions to provide the payers with the necessary intensity to further deveop their individua and coective skis. Physica Fitness Gradua and appropriate progression of strength, speed and conditioning training dependent on abiity. A payers shoud be on strength and conditioning programmes and understand the benefits of doing so. Payers have 2 3 of these sessions per week. 36
6 Consistent re-enforcement of proper technique is essentia and wi take pace under organised strength and conditioning training. Appropriate periodised season pan and competition mode. Payers and coaches wi gain an understanding of pre-season training and when it shoud take pace, peaking for certain dates and the off-season. Payers have persona accountabiity for their training. A return for physica investment shoud be noticeabe. Where appropriate, advanced methods of strength training depending on payer profie. Payers shoud set a competitive environment in the gym and in a training settings, thus chaenging each other to better strength standards. Menta Deveopment Abiity to manage pre-match and post-match preparation and recovery. This incudes nutritiona management, stretching and mobiity. Payers in this stage shoud reguary set and attain goas in sport and ife. Coaches can assist payers to set, monitor and achieve goas which contribute with overa team goas. Determination: Payers shoud be determined to succeed, to improve, to organise and prioritise their ives in order to become better and successfu payers. For some the opportunity to progress to Stage 6 (representative) rugby is a reaity and a motivationa factor. 37
