Mitchell Fore - Production/Lighting Director rmfore@uncg.edu Phone: Most of the information included herein applies to the Adjudicated and Gala Concerts which will perform in Aycock Auditorium at 408 Tate Street (corner of Tate and Spring Garden Streets) on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The Informal Concerts will be presented in the Dance Theatre on the other side of campus. Brief information regarding that facility and those events appears at the end of this document. General Information Be on time. The festival schedule is extremely tight. No food or drink in the auditorium, stage or dressing rooms at any time. Sealed water bottles are permitted in stage and dressing rooms. There is no smoking in any campus building. Only performers, stage managers, production staff and associated choreographers will be admitted during technical rehearsals and performances.

The festival will occur during UNCG s spring break, so there will be less daytime vehicular and foot traffic than normal, but participants will be travelling to various areas of the campus in short periods of time. Be responsible for your personal belongings and those of your cohort. This link takes you to a map of the campus. Aycock Auditorium is building 34; Taylor is building 35; Elliott University Center is 40; Faculty Center is 43; Curry is building 45; HHP is building 98 (labeled the School of Health and Human Sciences); the Student Recreation Center is 134. About the Theatre Aycock Auditorium is a 1644-seat proscenium house built in 1921 and extensively renovated in There are 841 seats at orchestra level and 803 in the mezzanine/balconies. The performance space is approximately 32 wide and 24 deep with a small amount of offstage space right and left for props and scenery. There are four wings roughly 6 apart and a crossover against the upstage wall. Dressing rooms are located below the stage down a flight of stairs on either side. The dance floor is a black vinyl marley surface. No foreign substances (including rosin) may be used or thrown on the dance floor. Shoes that could potentially damage the floor surface, such as hard-soled shoes, painted shoes, or jazz tennis shoes, may not be worn. Tap shoes may be worn as long as the screws are tightened. A lighting boom is located in the middle of each wing. Masking curtains are black velour. For your backdrop, you ll have a choice of black scrim or white cyc. The cyc lights hang between the black scrim and the cyc. We d suggest you leave the scrim in place even if you use the cyc as your backdrop; it s our feeling that the cyc looks best that way. No front curtain! will be used during the Adjudicated Concerts. AUDITORIUM FROM STAGE
3 ACDFA Mid- Atlantic Regional Festival 2013 Technical Production Packet 3 Spacing/Technical Rehearsals A spacing/technical rehearsal for all participants in the Adjudicated Concerts will be scheduled between 8:00am and 6:00pm on the day of the concert in which the dance is being performed. Each college/university will be given 15 minutes onstage to set an audio level, adjust the light cue levels previously programmed, and to space and run the dance. The schedule is very tight and will be strictly followed. Stage Manager/Technician Each participating college/university must provide a person who will be responsible for all technical elements and for calling all cues for each dance during rehearsals and performances for the Adjudicated and Gala Concerts. Cues will be called from the control booth in the back of the house. Dances with props and scenery may require a stage hand as well as a stage manager. VIEW LOOKING SL
4 ACDFA Mid- Atlantic Regional Festival 2013 Technical Production Packet 4 VIEW LOOKING SR General Policies & House Rules Food/Drink - Food and drink (except water) are not allowed inside the dressing rooms, on the stage, or inside the auditorium. Smoking Smoking is not allowed inside any area of the facility. By university policy, smoking is permitted outside, at least 25 feet away from any building.
5 ACDFA Mid- Atlantic Regional Festival 2013 Technical Production Packet 5 Flammable Material No flammable material such as bunting tissue paper, crepe paper, cardboard, etc. may be used for decorations. All materials used for decorative purposes must be treated with flame proofing and approved. Pyrotechnics or fire usage (including candles and incense) will not be permitted. Aisle Lights For safety reasons, the aisle lights in the auditorium must remain on at all times during all rehearsals and performances. Performers Entrance All performers and event personnel should enter the facility through the stage door located at the back corner of the building adjacent to the breezeway between Aycock and the Taylor Building next door. Security Do not leave valuables unattended at any time in the dressing rooms, backstage area, or auditorium. UNC Greensboro will accept no liability for lost or stolen items. Rigging and Flying There is a fly system in the theatre, but virtually no time to rig any flying scenery or props. If you have specific rigging needs, or any other special wishes, contact Mitch Fore as soon as possible, no later than January 10, Lighting Magic sheet, stage manager cue sheet, tracking sheet and ground plan are available for download. Please complete and return these forms by January 10, Maximum number of cues, including opening and closing cues: 10 Control Board: E.T.C. Ion Control Console A dance light plot will be in place consisting of low, medium, and high sidelight; two-color back/down light; pipe ends; front light; pattern wash; down light pools; and cyclorama color washes. There will be two sets of low sidelight or shins; one will remain clear, the other can accept color. Color changes will be possible in the mid sidelights and one set of shins. Schools must provide all color media for these changes, but not gel frames. These materials should be presented when a school registers. Color frame size is 6.25 x Each system requires eight pieces of color. The magic sheet is a simple graphic representation of the light plot with the numbers showing where a specific channel within a wash hits the stage (or originates, in the case of the sidelights). Each box represents the stage as viewed from the house, with the bottom of the box being downstage. The numbers next to the wash name represent its color: R = Roscolux color, N/C means No Color and C/C means Color Change. To repeat: all schools must bring their own color for the mids and shins, eight pieces for each system, but not gel frames. Color frame size is 6.25 x 6.25.
6 ACDFA Mid- Atlantic Regional Festival 2013 Technical Production Packet 6 On the Stage Manager Cue Sheet, fill out your color choices and any props or special needs. Filling in when cues are called is optional, but helpful. Please fill out the tracking sheets with your best approximation of the cues you want with levels in the boxes under the channel #s. Write all channel levels in every cue if a channel goes out, write a 0. Number your cues 1 through whatever in the Q # slot. Followspots are not available. DEADLINE FOR COMPLETED FORMS: January 10, 2013 Audio The house speaker system consists of an overhead center cluster, 2 side fills which sit at the front corners of the stage, 4 wedge monitors which sit in the wings (2 on each side) and under balcony/upper balcony fills with time delay. Playback option: CD playback only - MP3 players cannot be accommodated. Each concert CD should contain only the track(s) for the designated piece and be labeled with the following information: Title of the dance Name of the college/university Name of the choreographer Length of music/sound in minutes and seconds Please remember to retrieve your CDs after the concert(s). It s a good idea to bring a backup copy of your CD with you. Projection There is a projector position at the center of the balcony rail. With such a flat projection angle, dancers onstage will be in the field of the projected image and their shadows will be projected onto the background. Depending on the aspect ratio of the source media, the projected image fills most of the backdrop. A standard DVD player will be available; the audio outputs of this device will be connected to the house system, so audio and video can be run from one DVD. Any incorporation of projections must be accomplished within the technical rehearsal time slot assigned to the dance. Scenery /Props All props and scenic elements are the responsibility of the person acting as the stage manager/technician for each participant. Due to the limited amount of technical rehearsal time available, traditional rigging and

No equipment will be allowed that could possibly damage the dance floor. Anyone with special needs should contact Mitch Fore as soon as possible to discuss what can be accommodated. Dressing Rooms There are two ensemble dressing rooms (16 stations) and two small dressing rooms (3-4 stations) down a flight of stairs from either side of the stage. Each is equipped with mirrors, toilets and showers. Dressing rooms will be assigned for all technical rehearsals and performances for the Adjudicated and Gala Concerts. With the large number of participants, we recommended that you do not leave valuable items unattended. ENSEMBLE DRESSING ROOM
8 ACDFA Mid- Atlantic Regional Festival 2013 Technical Production Packet 8 INFORMAL CONCERTS The Informal Concerts will be presented in the Dance Theatre, a 155-seat black box located in the Rosenthal Gymnasium, a portion of the Health and Human Performance Building complex (HHP) at 1408 Walker Avenue, on the other side of campus from Aycock Auditorium. Stage space is roughly 36 wide and 26 deep; there is a crossover upstage of the backdrop, but no wing space. Works presented in the Informal Concerts will have a choice of warm or cool wash with black or white backdrop. As with the Adjudicated Concerts, audio should be provided on one CD with the same labeling: Title of the dance Name of the college/university Name of the choreographer Length of music/sound in minutes and seconds If there are any questions regarding the information in this package, please contact Mitch Fore by as soon as possible. Weigh your requests for special consideration carefully, as each request for exceptions to the rules will have to be considered in light of its effect on all of the participating dance works.
