2 On the first day of classes, I was thrilled to embark on a journey to gain theoretical and practical medical knowledge and... I would give the best of myself to reach my goal. CARMEN ORIVE HAD A DREAM of returning to school, however, it wasn t possible while she was raising her three children on her own. In 2012, when they were grown, she had the opportunity to pursue her dream. After volunteering for the Red Cross in her native Costa Rica ten years ago, Ms. Orive found her calling to be in the healthcare field in which she could help others and learn about diseases and medical care. She enrolled in the Lehman School of Continuing Education Clinical Medical Assistant Certificate Program. On the first day of classes, I was thrilled to embark on a journey to gain theoretical and practical medical knowledge and... I would give the best of myself to reach my goal, she stated. Carmen Orive with her daughter Laura, at her recent graduation. A Student s Success Carmen Orive Certified Clinical Medical Assistant School work was very challenging given that English was not Ms. Orive s native language. However, she was diligent in studying and doing homework. The flexible scheduling of the classes permitted her to tend to other commitments. Also, she said that she was blessed by having teachers who understood my passion for the field. She is grateful for their commitment in helping her succeed. Carmen Orive was awarded the Lehman College certificate in medical assisting and passed the National Healthcareer Association certification exam. She was glad to be able to set an example for her children by continuing her education. In fact her daughter, Laura, graduated college with high honors and is a dental assistant and a college teacher. Carmen Orive s dream came true and she is now employed at a New Rochelle hospital.
