5 1862 The abolition of slavery was declared as a goal of the union states 1865 Abolition of slavery in the United States, owners were not compensated as per their demands before the end of the Civil War 1862 Abraham Lincoln declared that in a free united states, all people would be declared equal under the law. This included slaves they were no longer objects but were human beings. This was not a law and was based on his authority as a military leader in a time of war Arizona Organic Act abolished slavery War ended April 1865 which brought the orders of the Emancipation Proclamation to all of the United States June 19, 1865 Federal Troops marched into Galveston Texas to force the freedom of slaves held in central and southern Texas (Juneteenth) 13 th Amendment of the Constitution passed in April 1864, ratified in House of Representatives in January 1865, December 1865 ratified by all states meaning the end of slavery in North America
