1 MULTIMEDIA AND FILM TECNOLOGY (MFT) NEW PROGRAMME DAR ES SALAAM INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (DIT) Multimedia and Film Technology is offered at Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology under the department of Computer Studies at Ordinary Diploma level (NTA Level 4 6). Department has adequate facilities as well as qualified teaching staff, Instructors and experienced technicians. The teaching facilities and staffing level in terms of numbers and qualifications are constantly improving so as to support above programme. About New Programme Multimedia is the technology that uses any combination of different media including media like text, spoken audio, music, images, animation and video. This is one of new technologies in our country whereby students learn technologies that are applicable in the society.

2 The outcomes of learning this programme will equip students with skills in sound, film, animation and graphic design. What are the possible Employments? Multimedia and Film technology is the area which offers different employments. 3 Communication System Technology (CST) New Course at DIT The department of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering offers the Ordinary Diploma NTA level 4-6 in Communication System Technology as a new programme. The department has adequate resources to run this programme, which include well-equipped laboratories and adequate teaching staff members with various qualifications About CST course Communication access technology is the field that is growing and changing at the fastest pace, and new access technologies and systems are constant being created to provide faster and more efficiency communication access technology. Communication system technology course is developed to couple with this trends and changes. The course covers pretty aspect of modern communication technology and its innovation that include, Optic fibre, WiFi, Wimax, GSM, LTE and LTE advance. The course touches the theoretical aspects and hands on skill on access network architecture, radio planning, installing and monitoring the performance of communication access technologies and transmission. Students are exposed to the real aspect of the communication access technology. During the studies students also develop entrepreneur s skill as well as gaining hands on skill in the communication system market. These allow graduates to utilize the skills they have acquired in creating employment. Career Opportunities Communication system technology graduates go on work in myriad sectors of communication and computer networks. Programmes offered by the department cover a wide range of fields including Laboratory science and technology, Biotechnology and Food Science and Technology (A) Ordinary Diploma NEW PROGRAMMES (i) Ordinary Diploma in Food Science and Technology This is a new programme started in the academic year 2013/2014. The programme endeavor to cope with the increased demand for skilled technicians in the field of food science and technology. The programme aim to produce technicians who are technically well equipped and able to apply comprehensive job skills across all areas of food science and technology particularly in food processing

5 and preservation, food microbiology and analytical food chemistry. Students will gain considerable knowledge, skills and essential hands-on experience through well-equipped food laboratory classes and industry site visits. Career opportunities Graduates of Ordinary Diploma in food science and technology will be able to work in professional areas such as product development, processing technologies, food production and distribution, food quality assurance, food safety within food and processing industries, drinks manufacturing, sales and marketing. (ii) Ordinary Diploma in Biotechnology Ordinary Diploma in Biotechnology is also a new programme aiming to produce technicians highly needed currently in tremendous growth in the biotechnology industry and related service sector. The programme is designed to produce technicians equipped with the skills and know-how on new biological processes in areas of biotechnology particularly food biotechnology, agro biotechnology and environment biotechnology. Students will be exposed to practical knowledge and skills for working with DNA, proteins, cells and molecules. Career opportunities Graduates of Ordinary Diploma in Biotechnology will possess an insightful of a broad range of modern biotechnologies and be able to work in a diverse range of biotechnology related industries such as agricultural and pharmaceutical. They can work also in biotechnology related sectors such as food biotechnology, agro biotechnology, and environment biotechnology, forensic and healthcare sectors. (B) Undergraduate Programmes Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Laboratory Science The Bachelor of Technology degree (B.Tech) in Laboratory science is a three year programme containing core modules which will equip students with a combination of core practical and workplace

6 skills and thus provide skilled professionals who will be able to work as laboratory technologist in a variety of laboratory settings. Elective s modules are also available to allow students to tailor the program to specific interests such as food industry, veterinary diagnostics, horticulture, agriculture and environmental fields. As part of acquiring industrial skills, at the end of each academic year students will undertake Industrial Practical Training (IPT) at a research and / academic institution or Industrial in form of an attachment for a training period of 8 weeks. Career opportunities In order to cope with the rapid change in technology there is a very high demand of laboratory technologist. Thus, graduates can be employed as laboratory technologist in industrial laboratories such as food industry or work in veterinary diagnostics, horticulture, agriculture, environmental fields and research laboratories in science related marketing opportunities.
