Grupo Eurona Telecom: Supporting International Growth with SAP S/4HANA In 2001 Grupo Eurona Telecom S.A. began designing and building telecommunications networks. It later decided to use these networks to offer Internet and telephone services in remote areas. To face this challenge, the company chose SAP S/4HANA software to help improve its financial and accounting departments. It became the company s support tool for international growth.

3 The digital gap reduced Grupo Eurona Telecom is an independent, last-mile telecommunications operator. By using radio technology, which costs less than cable or DSL, the company can use infrastructure in areas that traditional service providers do not find attractive or profitable. Focusing its business activity in this niche market, Grupo Eurona Telecom has become an industry leader. The company has all the ingredients necessary to bring together local or regional companies that do not have the right tools or growth potential. Grupo Eurona Telecom s know-how for identifying, developing, and revitalizing these areas has fostered its growth. Along with earning the trust of several private investors, it has reached a share capital amount of more than 9 million in addition to money raised through the Spanish stock market. The company had several objectives when implementing SAP S/4HANA software. It wanted a system that could handle in real time the large volume of data generated by its daily activities. Its previous solution, based on open-source technology, was difficult to scale and did not cover current or future needs. SAP S/4HANA can support a generation of new scenarios and new models. It runs them in ways that were not possible before. The company also wanted to optimize financial management by increasing the ability to control expenses and income as well as improving the reliability of the information. Financial reports tailored to different departments would provide the best data available for decision making. Eurona also needed a single, integrated financial solution that would allow international accounting consolidation of its subsidiaries in different parts of the world that have different economic rules and regulations. 3 / 6

4 A fast launch for international consolidation SAP S/4HANA was chosen by Grupo Eurona Telecom from the start. Decisive factors included the fact that the software can handle all accounting and finance matters for the company and also respond to its current and future needs. For the implementation, Grupo Eurona Telecom collaborated with SII CVTeam, an SAP partner that worked closely with the company from the beginning to help define the project scope. SII CVTeam began the first phase of the implementation by interviewing Grupo Eurona Telecom users to get a complete overview of their skills as well as the operations they performed with the old system. During the second phase, both parties chose the best moment to carry out the migration, based on the company s business activity, and launch the selected functionality. The software s quick implementation was one key aspect. According to Grupo Eurona Telecom managers, the launch took place in just three days. Shortly afterward, they began to adjust tasks to integrate SAP S/4HANA with the rest of the company s applications. Migrating data from the old system to the new system without disrupting business activity was one challenge that Grupo Eurona Telecom faced. This change had to be transparent to the user without increasing work for the company or causing any interruptions to any department that interacts with finance and accounting. SII CVTeam developed several gateways to help complete the data migration of monthly billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and refund data. It kept this data available at all times. 4 / 6

5 New, quicker processes that make work simpler The implementation has allowed Grupo Eurona Telecom to improve its processes and has given it new financial opportunities. And the benefits have been visible from the start. The company can carry out processes more quickly twice as fast as with the previous system improving the efficiency of handling data and information. Now it can analyze data in real time from different perspectives and obtain reports with multiple parameters, depending on the department that needs the information. It has quicker closings, a reduction in background processes, and an integrated view between accounting and management control. Business users have also benefited from this change, since the software is much simpler to use and more integrated compared with other tools. It has very systematic accounting and finance components, while its transactions offer users a very good experience. All of this left them feeling comfortable with the new tool right away. And, thanks to the software s stability, the company has benefited from more reliable financial data. This has made work much easier for the company s auditors, which is crucial, since Grupo Eurona Telecom is listed on the Spanish Stock Exchange. 5 / 6
