The organisation aims to make contemporary art as accessible and engaging to the widest audience through presentation and participation, adopting a playful but critical approach to the idea of the art institution. The artistic programme celebrates the relevance of contemporary visual culture to society today, is shaped by a belief in dialogue between contemporary art and ideas, and seeks to create new relationships between artists and audiences at the beginning of the 21st century. MAO creates world-class exhibitions of acclaimed and emerging artists for audiences to enjoy, with projects and residencies that open up opportunities for participation, authorship and ownership. Following historic lines of enquiry, our programmes aim to address the question of the role of contemporary art and artists in society and contemporary practice as a distinct category of visual research and knowledge production, whilst opening up synergies between art and other forms of thinking and cultural production. We aim to explore and anticipate future models (including digital and broadcasting platforms) that build relationships with audiences and participants to be inspired and enjoy, to debate and research, to produce and reflect upon contemporary visual culture. 2

3 ASSISTANT PRODUCTION MANAGER Fixed Term Contract December 2015 to January 2017 Part time (3 days per weeks), c 23,000 pa pro rata During exhibition installation periods, hours increase and renumeration is at standard hourly technician rate THE ROLE Modern Art Oxford is one of the UK s leading contemporary art spaces with an international reputation for innovation and ambition. The gallery presents a programme of changing exhibitions of modern and contemporary art each year, coupled with an extensive programme of education, events and performance projects involving several thousand people of all ages and backgrounds. This post is a vital part of the Programme Team. Reporting to the Production Manager, this role is responsible for a range of practical and production focused activities and objectives. Key Responsibilities: 1. MAINTAIN THE HIGH QUALITY OF THE GALLERIES AND WORKSHOP Create and implement clear systems to ensure the workshop is tidy and in safe working order at all times during installation and during interim periods between production of shows Ensure stock levels of regularly used materials are maintained Ensure workshop equipment is properly and regularly maintained Maintain and administer the AV resources Carry out weekly tour of galleries to ensure all artworks are in good condition, and equipment is fully functional 2. SUPPORT THE PRODUCTION MANAGER IN THE EFFICENT DESIGN, PLANNING AND DELIVERY OF THE EXHIBITION PROGRAMME Research production and staff costs to help develop exhibition budgets Produce 3D digital layouts for exhibitions in Sketch-Up (or Rhino) Design and fabricate artworks for exhibitions, both in house and using external fabricators Order materials and equipment in good time to ensure best value Support the Production Manager in drafting exhibition installation plans Liaise with freelance technicians to plan availability Produce accurate and timely health and safety, risk assessment plans with input from the Production Manager Support the Production Manager to develop and implement new ways of generating income into the programme 3

SUPPORT THE PRODUCTION MANAGER TO OVERSEE INSTALLATION OF EXHIBTIIONS Be on-site at all times during installation Deputise for the Production Manager when required, including directly overseeing areas of the install enabling the Production Manager to attend to other duties Liaise with artists where Production Manager or Curators are not available Manage delivery schedule and ensure technicians remain on time and schedule Monitor any minor changes in build spend during installation and report to Production Manager and Curator PERSON SPECIFICATION Essential: Demonstrable interest in contemporary art Demonstrable experience of working with artists Strong organisational skills Strong attention to detail Excellent time management Excellent communication skills Experience of risk management Experience of managing others Ability to see through projects from concept to delivery Positive in collaborations and team working Efficient working with effective use of resources Very good at using initiative, being pro-active and solution focused Desirable Skills: Carpentry AV installation Budget Management 3D software (Sketch-Up, Rhino etc.) MS Office Adobe Creative Suite (primarily Photoshop and Illustrator) Metalwork Electrician 4
