1 May 23, 2016 Opening Public To Be Heard The regular meeting of the Slippery Rock Area School District was held on Monday, May 23, 2016 in the Middle School Library at 7:32 p.m. Members present: Mrs. Melissa Allen, Mr. Greg Angerett, Mr. Matt Pyle, Mrs. Theresa Pearce, Mrs. Heather Scott, Mrs. Polly Shaw, Mr. Mark Taylor, Mrs. Sara Whitman, Mrs. Diana Wolak Others present: Superintendent Dr. Alfonso Angelucci, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Patricia Kardambikis, Transportation Director Beth Drake, Business Manager Paul Cessar, Solicitor Mike Hnath None Minutes On a motion by Mr. Angerett, second by Mr. Pyle, and unanimously carried, Approved the Board approved the Regular Board Meeting Minutes of May 09, 2016, Educational Programming Committee Meeting Minutes of April 11, 2016, and the Operations Committee Meeting Minutes of April 25, Invited Guests Executive Session New Hires None Mr. Taylor said prior to this meeting, the Board met in Executive Session for purposes of Personnel and Contract Negotiations. On a motion by Mrs. Shaw, second by Mrs. Whitman, and unanimously carried, the Board approved the following new hires (conditional upon receipt of updated Act 168 paperwork): 1. Rachelle Reamer Grade 4, Slippery Rock Area Elementary School Ms. Reamer will be placed at Step 1 of the Bachelor s Salary Scale. 2. Jessica Parker Grade 3, Moraine Elementary School Ms. Parker will be placed at Step 1 of the Master s Salary Scale Transportation On a motion by Mrs. Shaw, second by Mr. Pyle, and unanimously carried, the Board approved the following through Transportatioin: 1. On a motion by Mr. Taylor, second by Mrs. Shaw, and unanimously carried, the Board approved an Intergovernmental Cooperation Agreement for the Joint Operation of Community Parks and Recreation among Slippery Rock Borough, Slippery Rock Township, and Slippery Rock Area School District. On a motion by Mr. Pyle, second by Mrs. Shaw, and unanimously carried, the Board approved the first reading of the following Board policies: 1. Policy #626 Federal Fiscal Compliance 2. Policy #626.1 Travel Reimbursement Federal Programs 3. Policy #827 Federal Compliance Conflict of Interest 4. Policy #806 Child Abuse 5. Policy #918 Parent Involvement On a motion by Mr. Taylor, second by Mrs. Shaw, and unanimously carried, the Board approved the second reading of the following Board policy: 1. Policy #210 Use of Medications On a motion by Mrs. Allen, second by Mrs. Shaw, and unanimously carried, Student Handbooks the Board approved the following student handbooks for the school year: 1. 3 Supplies and On a motion by Mrs. Scott, second by Mr. Pyle, and unanimously carried, Equipment Bids the Board approved low bids for supplies and equipment for the school year. Elementary Arts Bid $ 5, High School Specialty Arts Bid $ 4, Middle School Specialty Arts Bid $ High School Industrial Arts Bid $ 1, Middle School Industrial Arts Bid $ 3, High School Wood $ 4, Middle School Wood $ 2, Furniture Bid $ Music Bid $ 8, Audio Visual Bid $ 1, Transportation On a motion by Mrs. Allen, second by Mrs. Pearce, and unanimously carried, the Board approved transportation for Special Education students to attend summer camps: 1. St. Stephens 12 day program at a cost of $135/day (1 student) 2. Slippery Rock University (Armco Park) 10 day program at a cost of $100/day (2 students) 2016 Interim On a motion by Mrs. Shaw, second by Mrs. Pearce, and unanimously carried, Exonerations the Board approved 2016 Interim Exonerations as per attached lists: Painting Bids Approved On a motion by Mr. Pyle, second by Mrs. Shaw, and unanimously carried, the Board approved low bid for painting through Executive Painting of Jameston, PA. 1. High School $ 12, Middle School $ 7, Area Elementary $ 5, Moraine Elementary $ 9, Alternate 1 (Barn) $ 8,000 Slippery Rock On a motion by Mrs. Shaw, second by Mrs. Whitman, and unanimously University/Internship carried, the Board approved Slippery Rock University Internship Agreement Agreement for purposes of High School Color Guard class. Sharp Collections On a motion by Mr. Pyle, second by Mr. Angerett, and unanimously carried, the Board approved Sharp Collections, delinquent Per Capital Tax collector for fiscal year ending June 30, 2017 and delinquent Earned Income Tax collector for the year 2011 and prior.

4 On a motion by Mrs. Shaw and second by Mr. Taylor, the Board approved Preliminary Budget the Preliminary Budget with budgeted expenditures of $31,532,676. The motion carried. Voting yes: Mrs. Allen, Mrs. Pearce, Mrs. Scott, Mrs. Shaw, Mr. Taylor Mrs. Whitman, Mrs. Wolak Voting no: Mr. Angerett, Mr. Pyle Financial Reports On a motion by Mr. Angerett, second by Mr. Pyle, and unanimously carried, the Board approved the following financial reports: 1. Treasurer Reports for month ending April 30, 2016 General Fund, First National Bank of PA $9,650, Capital Reserve Fund , Activities Fund dated April , Athletics Fund dated April , Food Service Fund, First National Bank , Bills & Claims: General Fund $487, Manual checks dated April ,363, Activities Fund dated April , Athletics Fund dated April , Food Service Account , Superintendent Report Dr. Angelucci reported on the following: 1. The Academic Awards Banquet was held on May 17, 2016 at Slippery Rock University (Robert Smith Center). This year, there are thirteen (13) seniors who have attained the distinction of summa cum laude. 2. Graduation commencement will be held on Friday, June 03, 2016 at the Slippery Rock University Morrow Field House at 7:00 p.m. 3. The Butler County Vocational Technical School Awards Recognition Ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 26, The following resignations were received: a. Melissa Knepper 6 th Grade Social Studies teacher b. John Tabisz Varsity Girls Basketball Coach Assistant Dr. Kardambikis reported on the following: Superintendent Report 1. The last day for the Keystone Exams will be tomorrow May 24, On May 20, 2016, Mrs. Kristen Czubiak, Mr. Brian Belowich, Mr. Jason Watkins and Dr. Kardambikis visited New Castle School District to view their new Fablab and MakerSpace. 3. Each building in the Slippery Rock Area School District will receive a $1,000 Action for Healthy Kids Grant.

5 The Area Elementary School and Moraine Elementary School will use the money towards curriculum, the Middle School will be growing herbs, and the High School will be buying heart rate monitors. 4. Dr. Angelucci and Dr. Kardambikis will begin meeting with the new teachers at each building to reflect on their first year of teaching and ask for feedback and additional support. Secretary Report Mr. Cessar said due to paint peeling of the High School stadium bleachers and walkway, the manufacturers will be removing them to be reprocessed. The stadium will be closed until the bleachers are reinstalled. Mr. Cessar said the school district has received an insurance settlement of $3,185 for the destruction of the marque at the High School entrance on Rocket Drive and Route 173 due to a vehicle accident. Operations Committee Report Mr. Pyle said the Operations Committee met with J.T. Sauer & Associates to discuss the proposed Lighting Project on Rocket Drive. Also discussed was summer painting. On a motion by Mr. Pyle and second by Mrs. Shaw, the Board authorized the Business Manager to advertise for bid the Lighting Project on Rocket Drive. The motion carried. Voting yes: Mr. Angerett, Mrs. Pearce, Mr. Pyle, Mrs. Scott, Mrs. Shaw, Mr. Taylor, Mrs. Whitman, Mrs. Wolak Voting no: Mrs. Allen Athletics Committee Adjournment Mr. Taylor reported on the following: 1. The Girls Softball team and Boys Baseball team have each qualified for the PIAA playoffs. Round One begins on June 06, Emma McDermont and Brady Dalton have qualified to attend the PIAA Track & Field State Championships in Shippensburg, PA., on May 27 28, The Mercer County Athletic Championships (MCAC) was held at Slippery Rock High School stadium on May 12, 2016 with over 600 participants.
