2 INTRODUCTORY INFORMATION SAP HANA Cloud Platform has been rebranded to SAP Cloud Platform and will be launched at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Feb 27 th This FAQ answers commonly asked questions you may have on what this rebranding means for your company. What is SAP Cloud Platform ( SAP CP )? SAP Cloud Platform is an open platform-as-a-service that provides a unique in-memory database and a set of services for building, customizing and connecting enterprise applications. It is the proven cloud platform that enables you to rapidly develop new applications or personalize and customize existing ones on-premises or cloud-based. It was previously known as SAP HANA Cloud Platform. Why did we rename SAP HANA Cloud Platform to SAP Cloud Platform? Isn t it based on SAP HANA? SAP Cloud Platform has evolved from an in-memory platform-as-a-service solution to an innovation platform in the cloud to support business challenges that companies face in their digital transformation journey. It started with SAP HANA as a database-as-a-service plus capabilities to develop mobile, HTML applications with strong integration and security. Since it s launch, SAP Cloud Platform has evolved into a PaaS with over 40 application services designed to meet the needs of our customers and partners looking to leverage innovative technologies such as IoT, machine learning, artificial intelligence and big data on a cloud platform. SAP Cloud Platform continues to be an agile in-memory cloud development and deployment platform with SAP HANA as a core capability but now has a number of apps development services that enables our customers to integrate, extend and build applications in the cloud to meet their business needs. To date, SAP has introduced into the market a number of enterprise cloud applications on top of SAP Cloud Platform (e.g. SAP BusinessObjects Cloud, Digital Boardroom, SAP Product Stewardship Network, etc.). It is also the platform for SAP Leonardo, SAP s portfolio of IoT applications that connects intelligent devices with people and processes, and SAP Clea, the portfolio of Machine Learning apps. SAP Cloud Platform is also one of three strategic pillars of SAP solutions alongside SAP HANA Platform and SAP S/4 HANA. Integration: Improves business agility while preventing data and application silos by seamlessly and securely integrating cloud applications into business landscapes. Securely collaborate with customers and partners at scale to improve efficiencies as well as gain real-time insights from sensors, devices, and social sentiment. Analytics: Embeds advanced analytics into app solutions, empowering customers to identify, combine, and manage multiple sources of data and build advanced analytics models within business applications for personalized, contextual, real-time apps. Internet of Things: The Internet of Things service provides the ability to quickly develop, deploy, and manage real-time IoT and machine-to-machine (M2M) and remote data synch applications. Onboard and manage connected remote devices, get real-time predictive analysis to improve intelligence and decisionmaking at the edge of the network, and optimize business processes at the core of any business. Security: SAP Cloud Platform's closely integrated security services include authentication, single sign-on, on-premises integration and self-services such as registration and password reset for employees, customers, partners and consumers. Mobile: Delivers enterprise-grade native and hybrid mobile apps. The mobile portfolio delivers key capabilities such as multiple authentication methods, secure access to on-premises and cloud-based systems, offline synchronization, remote logging control and retrieval, automatic app updates for hybrid apps, one-to-one and one to-many push notifications. Business : SAP Business fuel the fast development of Business apps and services for the cloud, and power an open marketplace for new business apps, which includes SAP, hybris, ISV and other 3rd party apps. This includes pre-packaged apps for customer service and ecommerce, micro business services and a marketplace of services for quickly creating business-ready apps. Data and Storage: By eliminating the divide between transactions and analytics, SAP HANA powers any business question anywhere in real time. With HANA, spatial processing and data virtualization on the same architecture, innovating with big data is simplified and accelerated. SAP HANA drives performance, expedites processes and truly revolutionizes business. Also, with SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise (SAP ASE), customers can drive faster, more reliable transaction processing for less. ASE is an affordable relational database management system (RDBMS) designed for high-performance transaction-based applications involving massive volumes of data and to thousands of concurrent users. DevOps : Development and IT Operations (DevOps) allow developers to develop and manage application including complete life cycle management. These services increase developer productivity by simplifying development. It also improves team productivity with the ability to code and collaborate anywhere. Development: SAP Cloud Platform supports different runtimes/programming models (Java, XSJS, HTML5) and offers open standards-based development. Are there new capabilities I should be aware of with this launch announcement? At Mobile World Congress on Feb 27 th, we will also share new product updates and news on the results of our co-development with Apple. They include: 1) SAP Cloud Platform SDK for ios, the Apple ios SDK for SAP Cloud Platform planned for delivery on March 30, that will give developers, designers, and businesses the tools and scalability they need to quickly and efficiently build powerful enterprise grade apps for iphone and ipad, is now generally available 2) The Project Companion mobile app, planned for March 30 th is a native ios app that aims to provide integration via the SAP Cloud Platform into the SAP S/4HANA Professional Cloud solution, taking advantage of real time data and dramatically simplifying the experience for consultants, project managers and other mobile users. 3) SAP Cloud Platform Internet of Things services is now available in a beta version. With support for more than 40 device protocols, device management can help companies leverage IoT for immediate detection and quicker response. The new release aims to integrate IoT services with the Smart data Streaming service for faster processing of streaming data. 4) SAP Cloud Platform Virtual Machine will now be available in the US in Q1 to make it easier for more customers to complete their solution landscapes by adding workloads based on existing on-premises software or languages and runtimes that can now run directly on SAP Cloud Platform. 5) SAP Cloud Platform Workflow, which connects business functions quickly and easily with a graphical interface for business analysts to quickly create workflows for business process will be made generally available in March. 6) SAP API Business Hub, which makes it easier to integrate SAP applications has new APIs added - they include SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Mobile Service, SAP Localization Hub-Tax service, portal service and many more totaling close to 100 APIs. Visit here to access these APIs. 7) Data centers in China and Japan are now available with full language support. 8) SAP Cloud Platform Big Data (formerly Altiscale) offers Hadoop in the cloud for providing the foundation for Big Data applications What news will be shared at Mobile World Congress? On Feb 27 th 4pm CET at Mobile World Congress, there will be a press conference with Bernd Leukert member of the Executive Board of SAP SE, Products & Innovation as the key spokesperson to share news about the renaming of SAP HANA Cloud Platform into SAP Cloud Platform, new product features (mentioned in this FAQ) and highlight the product vision. Will I be able to find more information about SAP Cloud Platform on SAP owned sites? When will information such as renewals, pricing, etc. be updated? HCP.SAP.com, where you can learn about SAP Cloud Platform will become Cloudplatform.sap.com on Feb 27 th Some of the existing product content (e.g. product brochures, videos, documentation, etc.) will be 4
