1 Job Title: Reports To: FLSA Status: Teacher Pre-K Pilot Tumalo Executive Director of Academic Programs & Building Principal Exempt JOB SUMMARY The Pre-K teacher promotes and develops District approved, developmentally appropriate curriculum and instruction for students, is responsible for consistently measuring and evaluating student progress, and provides a safe and optimal learning environment. The teacher supervises and develops lessons for educational assistants, is responsible for partnering with families through collaboration, communication, and education, and performs related duties in accordance with District policies and terms of the teacher contract. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Employees holding this assignment may perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned as necessitated by the Supervising Administrator. 1. CURRICULUM, INSTRUCTION and ASSESSMENT: Plan, implement and teach a developmentally appropriate program following federal, state, and district outcomes that meet the individual physical, intellectual, social, cultural, creative, and emotional needs and abilities of the students. Employ instructional methods and strategies that are appropriate for meeting students needs and educational objectives. Conduct screenings, evaluate and monitor results and progress of students. 2. LEADERSHIP and COLLABORATION: Be a role model in all aspects of professionalism and demonstrate a positive attitude. Participate in various meetings and committees for the purpose of receiving and or providing information, and providing feedback to students, parents, and supervisors regarding student goals and progress. Collaborate with staff and parents for the purpose of improving the program and quality of student performance, planning curriculum and events, and developing solutions. Train and monitor the success of educational assistants through planning, conducting regular observations conferencing, and providing resources. Maintain records and mandatory documents. 3. STUDENT and FAMILY ENGAGEMENT: Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and growing. Manage student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment. Consult with families and collaborate to provide engaging opportunities to participate in their child s education. Assist parents in increasing their knowledge in child growth and development through regular communication, conferences, visits, activities, and community events. 4. 2 5. Comply with applicable District, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations. 6. Adhere to all standards established by Teachers Standards and Practices Commissions (TSPC) for the Competent and Ethical Educator. 7. Adhere to all Oregon Administrative Rules, related to licensed educators. 8. Attend work regularly. 9. Embrace and implement innovative instructional strategies. 10. Be flexible and adapt to student and school needs. 11. Be organized, reflective, participatory and punctual. 12. Be passionate for instructional excellence. 13. Focus making learning visible through effective student engagement. 14. Work cooperatively with other team members to improve the instructional program. 15. Effectively use computer and technology to support effective instruction and student learning. 16. Evaluate and differentiate student progress and adapt individual programs to meet student needs. 17. Implement Common Core curriculum with rigor, purpose, and planning. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Minimum of two years recent and successful teaching experience working with children ages birth-5 years. 2. Demonstrated knowledge and classroom implementation of best practices in instructional strategies, especially in early childhood education 3. Knowledge of social-emotional learning and growth mindset 4. Knowledge of typical and atypical child development from ages birth-5 5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills 6. Demonstrated strong leadership skills: ability to build strong relationships and work collegially; act as a role-model, demonstrating high standards, good listening skills, ethics and professionalism 7. Demonstrated success in working productively with adult learners 8. Ability and willingness to participate in and promote professional development activities 9. Demonstrated ability to help others actively acquire new knowledge, skills, and perspectives 10. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines 11. Ability to use standard district and program technology effectively and efficiently for a variety of purposes (e.g. ipad, apps, Google, Excel) 12. Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining organizational systems 13. Ability and willingness to work professional hours PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Valid teaching license. 2. Grow & Develop Professionally SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position may supervise volunteers, student aides, and educational assistants. All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment at all times. Must hold a valid Oregon Teaching License with the appropriate endorsement and authorization for the assignment. 5 Experience: Demonstrated ability to successfully teach young children in the public school setting. Student teaching also applies. Language Skills: Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, staff or members of the community. Ability to draft simple correspondence and some routine reports. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Mathematical Skills: Ability to provide students with an intuitive understanding of the concepts of math at the established grade-level standards. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer Skills: Proficiency in the usage of database software, internet software, and . Ability to proficiently use the following programs: MS Word, Outlook, and Excel. Ability to type accurately and proficiently. Ability to effectively use Synergy gradebook. Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to appropriately communicate with students, teachers, parents, members of the community and others including vendors, law enforcement and other agencies. Ability to exercise good judgment and work in an environment with constant interruptions. A belief that all students can learn.
