8 What is the difference between Internet and the WWW? Internet is an interconnected network of thousand of networks and millions of computers (referred to as hosts) WWW is one of Internet s most popular services, providing access to billions of Web pages Examples of Internet but not WWW apps?

17 URL structure Protocol - first set of letters at the start of every Web address, followed by the domain name. Domain name specifies the organization s server computer that is housing the document Resource location on server

18 What s the difference between the domain name and the URL? Domain names is the IP address expressed in natural language ping: IP Address: URL is the address used by a Web browser to identify the location of content on the WEB IPv6

First commercial Web browser-mozilla/netscape becomes available Netscape Inc goes public in 1995, while Microsoft enters browsers market by licensing Spyglass Mosaic code and building IE Browser wars IE integration with Windows Open source Mozilla Firefox released in 2004? 2008

Come up with the domain name, which is easy to remember, catchy, related to your product, and easy to spell. You should think of.com domains. 3. Check availability (hint: use any registrar, like 4. If your domain is not available repeat steps 2 and 3 5. If domain is available: shop around different registrars and find 3 best offers: price, duration, extras (hint: e.g. use google search for cheap domain registration to find registrars)
