1 Job Description Lecturer FE/HE Performing Arts (0.4 fraction negotiable) Creative Industries School The School provision currently includes Acting, Production Arts, Digital Arts, Art, Design, Media, Fashion, Dance, Music, Music Technology, Games Design, 3D Design and Photography, with students on study programmes, access courses, apprenticeships and higher education courses. Our focus is on ensuring that current and future students receive a first class experience that enables them to progress and attain their qualifications at high levels and to develop long-lasting learning and employability skills. Success is measured in terms of meaningful progression in education and training and destination into higher education and/or employment. Subject Specialism Performing Arts This exciting role is an outstanding member of the Creative Industries School with a specific brief on achieving excellence in teaching, learning, assessment and creative innovation across both FE and HE delivery. The post-holder will be expected to teach across the Creative Industries provision as directed but with specific responsibility for teaching and/or overseeing the delivery of a range of modules on the BA (hons) Acting for Stage and Media course and our BTEC provision. Subject areas could include Fringe and Applied Theatre, Acting for Screen, Presenting, Voice over and Audio work, Professional Practice, Classical, Directing, and Study Skills. Particular specialism in Fringe and Applied theatre and Acting for screen required. You will be confident with some or all of the above skills and will be keen to undertake professional development to upskill as necessary. Current working pattern for 16/17 the role is currently a.4 over 3 days Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. This is negotiable for 17/18 and beyond. Main Purposes and Responsibilities Responsible to: Responsible for: The Head of the School. Day-to-day line management will be the responsibility of the Section Head. The post-holder will be expected to teach across the Creative Industries provision as directed with specific focus on the above specialism, you will be required to take responsibility for providing course leadership and tutorial support as detailed above. General Duties of the Post Assume responsibility of a programme/course/module by arrangement with their Head of Section/School. Produce module study guides and/or schemes of work, monitor their delivery, supervise assessment, provide internal verification and liaise with external verifiers/moderators as required. Be responsible for the awarding body requirements, including internal and external verification/moderation. Page 1 of 5

2 Ensure programmes of work are conceived and delivered in ways which meet the needs of individual learners (for example through their Personal Development Plan or Individual Learning Plans and resource-based learning). Contribute to the development of existing and new provision. Assist the Head of Section in the administration of the Section. Co-ordinate the work of full and part-time colleagues on programmes for which he or she is responsible as required. Keep abreast of new developments in their curriculum area and related areas of education. Attend Section and School Meetings and represent the School on College committees, subcommittees and working parties, if required. Co-ordinate the review and evaluation of courses / modules / units for which he/she is responsible. Organise visits and liaise with outside/specialist agencies and employers. Organise and take part in day and residential courses in the UK and abroad, where appropriate. Develop links with industry and supervise work placements for students, where appropriate. Teach on one or more of the courses provided or serviced by the School and contribute to the development of existing and new provision and the implementation of flexible and cost effective teaching and learning styles. Complete the administrative work connected with their teaching efficiently and effectively, including completion of registers, records of work and various forms of student progress sheets. Develop and implement student assessment strategies in accordance with College policies and the requirements of awarding bodies. Adopt a consistent approach in dealing with student discipline in accordance with College policy. Adopt procedures and practices to create a safe working environment and enforce any safety standards in the area of work, ensuring all students comply. Ensure that equipment and materials are treated with respect by classes for which they are responsible and that laboratories, computing rooms and other teaching areas are left clean and tidy. Keep abreast of developments in their specialist fields and in the fields of education and training. Participate fully in professional development including lesson observation, undertaking of training or re-training and the acquisition of essential qualifications. Assume tutorial and pastoral responsibilities, and take part in the recruitment and interviewing of potential students. Take part in enrolment and induction procedures. Be an active course team member and participate fully in meetings, career conventions, in-service training sessions, conferences, seminars, open evenings and student assessment evenings etc. in addition to their teaching and administrative responsibilities Keep up-to-date with Quality Improvement initiatives and to be aware of, and meet, service standards for the School. Propose any ideas that may help to promote and extend the College s reputation and efficient running of the College. Page 2 of 5

3 Work flexibly, which may include evening and weekend work. Evening work may be teaching or evening duty. Be available to assist in enrolment procedures, which may require additional hours including evenings and weekends, for example during the Autumn Term. Perform other duties as may be required by the Principal, Head of College, Vice-Principal, Head of School or their representatives in order to ensure the efficient functioning of the College. As a list of general duties, the above is not exhaustive. The work of the School as a whole is expected to develop and the holder of the post will be required to work flexibly with colleagues to facilitate this development. Additional Information Candidates will hold a degree or professional qualification in an area relevant to the work in the School. They should also have a teaching qualification. Non-qualified candidates must achieve a teaching qualification within five years. Teacher-trained applicants must be able to show that they have participated recently in staff development to update their teaching skills and to remain abreast of current developments in teaching. All candidates need to have excellent teaching skills and substantial relevant teaching experience. This Job Description / Specification is subject to periodic review.
