Announcement No 1 Warsaw Agricultural University SGGW Polish Fertilizer Society PFS International Potash Institute IPI Regional Scientific Conference of Central and Eastern European Countries CEE BIOGEOCHEMISTRY OF POTASSIUM IN AGRICULTURAL SYSTEMS Conference date: June 2005 Conference site Warsaw Skierniewice Task of the conference Conference will be the fourth one in the cycle of conferences under the general title Biogeochemistry of plant nutrients in
2 agricultural systems. Three conferences from this cycle have been already organised, nitrogen in 2002, phosphorus in 2003 and sulphur in Simultaneously the Conference will continue the cycle of meeting focused on potassium in agriculture, which has started in 2002 in Experimental Station Rogów belonging to the SGGW in Warsaw. The main task of the Conference is to present the state of knowledge in the field of potassium turnover in the cycle soil fertilisers crops with particular stress upon the consequences of long - term negative balance of this element in agriculture of CEE countries. In scope of the Conference five plenary sessions will be organised: Session I. Long-term potassium balance on field, farm and country levels (key-note speaker Dr Andreas Gransee, IPI) Session II. The evaluation of the potassium reserves in soils (key-note speaker Dr A.E. Johnston, Rothamsted Research, UK) Session III. Potassium fertilization of arable crops and grasslands (keynote speaker Prof. Witold Grzebisz, Agricultural University Pozna). Session IV. Potassium nutrition of fruits and vegetables (key-note speaker Prof. Ewa Jadczuk, SGGW). Session V. Field session visiting long-term field experiments in Skierniewice (introduction Prof. Stanisław Mercik SGGW). Format of the Conference In every session one invited lecture (preferably corporate) and selected papers will be presented followed by the brief discussion. Posters are not anticipated. Conference Proceedings Papers will be published, after pre-review in the journal Nawozy i Nawoenie Fertilizers and Fertilization in English or in Polish and distributed among the participants in the opening day of the Conference, to facilitate the discussion. Conference fee 100 EUR The fee covers Conference Proceedings publication, meals during the conference, transportation from Warsaw to Skierniewice and other costs of organisation. Accommodation will be booked and paid directly by the participants in premises of SGGW in Warszawa Ursynów and in hotel at Skierniewice. The cost of the hotel is approximately EUR per person per night. 5 Content of the papers Annex No 3 Guide for the Authors For the special issue(s) of the journal Nawozy i Nawoenie - Fertilizers and Fertilization the original and reviewed papers concerning precisely the topic of the Conference Biogeochemistry of potassium in agricultural systems will be accepted only. The papers should cover the areas of Conference session i.e.: potassium balances (farm gate balance, soil surface balance, system balance) soil potassium reserves and the potassium turnover in the system fertilizers-soilplants all aspects of arable crops fertilization (yield quantity and quality, induced resistance) all aspects of horticultural crops fertilization Format of the paper The typical format of the paper should be as follows: Title of the paper Names and affiliation of the author(s) Abstract (up to 10 rows) Key words (maximum 5 key words) Introduction Methods Results Discussion (optionally, results and discussion) Conclusions References Acknowledgement Name, address and of the main author Layout of the manuscript Electronically version of the manuscripts will be accepted only, written in MS WORD, Times New Roman, type 12, space 1,5, tables in the text, figures in separate file, figures captions on separate sheet.
