1 M06_TOWN5764_01_SE_SM6.QXD 12/7/10 6:35 PM Page 1 CHAPTER 6 Windows 7 More Skills 12 Create Movies with Windows Live Movie Maker Windows Live Movie Maker is an application used to create movies by combining clips from digital video cameras, digital photos, and digital music. After assembling the clips, you save your movie as a single file that can be played with digital media players. To complete this project, you will need the following folder: Rapids You will save your files as: Lastname_Firstname_w7_06_Rapids (.rtf file) Lastname_Firstname_w7_06_Rapids (.wlmp file) Lastname_Firstname_w7_06_Rapids (.wmv file) 1. If necessary, use the skills you have practiced in this chapter to install Windows Live Photo Gallery and Movie Maker. 2. Open Windows Explorer. From the chapter_06 folder on the student CD, copy the Rapids folder to the Videos library, and then Close the Windows Explorer window. 3. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Windows Live Movie Maker.Ifa message displays that Movie Maker can t start, you will not be able to perform the remaining steps in this skill. Movie editing requires a computer with sufficient processor speed, memory, and free hard drive space. 4. Maximize the Windows Live Movie Maker window. On the Home tab, in the Add group, click Add videos and photos. 5. In the Add Videos and Photos dialog box, navigate to the Videos library, and then display the Rapids folder file list. Clips and photos are added to the storyboard pane, and the movie is viewed in the preview monitor. Storyboard Preview monitor Playback indicator Playback controls Figure 1 7. In the storyboard, drag the playback indicator all the way to the left. In the playback controls, click the Play button to view the video in the preview monitor. The video plays the items in the order they are arranged in the storyboard pane. Here, the video currently contains two clips. 8. Click the Movie Maker button, and then click Save project. In the Save Project dialog box, navigate to your Windows 7 Chapter 6 folder. In the File name box, type Lastname_Firstname_w7_06_Rapids and then click Save. A project file stores the arrangement of the storyboard, but it does not store the media itself. When a project is complete, you use the project file to create a single video file that will be viewed in other programs. If you plan to make changes to the video, you would need to open the project file, make the desired changes, and then create a new video. Click Allegro, and then click Open. Compare your screen with Figure 2. Music displays as a track in the storyboard. AutoMovie themes are used to add titles, credits, transitions, and other effects to your movies quickly. These are added to the storyboard, where they can be edited. Click the fourth clip DIRECTED to select it. Press X to remove the clip. Repeat this technique to delete the last two clips STARRING and FILMED. Click Save. Movie Maker can optimize and publish videos to several types of digital media, including high-definition, standard-definition, DVD, portable players, or mobile phones. You can also publish the video to YouTube. Publishing options Figure Press E to close the Share gallery. In the Share group, click the Save movie button arrow, and then under Common settings, click For In the Save Movie dialog box, navigate to your Windows 7 Chapter 6 folder. Accept the File name provided by clicking Save. The save movie process converts the items in the storyboard into a single movie file that can be played in a movie player such as Windows Media Player or Windows Media Center. If necessary, move the Windows Media Player window so that the Movie Maker storyboard is visible. The player controls do not display when they are not used. When this happens, you can display the player controls by pointing to the player window. Start WordPad, type your first and last name, and then add a new line. Type Windows 7 Chapter 6 More Skills Press J, and then in the Insert group, click Date and time, and then click OK. Press J, and then Paste the snip. 21. Save the document in your Windows 7 Chapter 6 folder as Lastname_Firstname_w7_06_Rapids 22. If you are printing your work, print the WordPad document. Exit WordPad, and then Close all open windows. 23. Delete the Rapids folder from the Videos library. 24. If you are done with your computer or this is your last project for this chapter, uninstall all Windows Live programs. Otherwise, leave the programs installed for the next project. 25. Submit the WordPad printout or the project files as directed by your instructor.
