1 Soccer Rules Amended: August 7, 2014 Equipment Shin guards are required for practice and games - your child must wear shin guards or s/he will not be allowed to participate. Cleats are not required for practice or games. If your child wears cleats, they must be soccer cleats, not baseball. Toe pick cleats will not be allowed for play. Each player needs to bring a ball to practice. The appropriate sizes are listed below. Please put your child s name on every piece of equipment. The YMCA is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Age Group Ball Size 3-8 Year olds Year olds 4 11 and Up 5 Jerseys, shorts, and socks ordered during open registration will be given out during the week before the first game. Any players who registered late are not guaranteed their jersey for the first game. All jerseys must be tucked in. jewelry is allowed during play. Socks must cover shin guards. Children with braces are advised to wear mouth guards. Rules of the Game: Alabama Soccer Association (ASA) Rules All referees calls are final. There will be ONE conversation regarding rule interpretation per half, per team requested by the head coach only. Coaches will have the opportunity to ask for clarification after the game with the referee or the Sports Director-following the conclusion of the game.

2 3-4 Year Olds Ball Size 3 (4) 8 Minute Quarters 4 v 4 (no goal keeper) Minimum to Play 3 Kick In Guarding the Goal 20 x 25 yards 4 H x 6 W x 2 D x 4 B past game time (scrimmage games will be played at a forfeit) Coaches Discretion Coaches act as referees 3 minutes, from closest spot Each team must remain outside the goal box until the ball is within 5 feet of the box. If it is a corner kick or kick in then the opposing teams players may stand on the line of the box (not inside the box) until the ball is in play. *Only one coach from each team may be on the field

3 5-6 Year Olds Ball Size 3 (4) 10 Minute Quarters 4 v 4 (no goal keeper) Minimum to Play 3 Kick In Guarding the Goal 25 x 30 yards 6.5 H x 12 W x 2 D x 7 B past game time (scrimmage games will be played at a forfeit) Prior to throw-in in your favor. Prior to goal kick by either team. After a goal by either team. After an injury, when referee stops play, by either team. At half time. When the referee stops play to caution a player, only the cautioned player may be substituted prior to the restart of the game., Ties will stand, from closest spot Each team must remain outside the goal box until the ball is within 5 feet of the box. 4 7-8 Year Olds Ball Size 3 (4) 12 Minute Quarters 6 v 6 (including goalie) 35 x 45 yards (ASA recommends 40 x 60 yards) 6.5 H x 18.5 W x 2 D x 7.5 B past game time (scrimmage games will be played at a forfeit), Ties will stand Allowed 2 nd throw in if 1 st is foul (must wear goalie jersey given by the official) * Coaches Allowed on Field *Hand ball results in an indirect kick

5 9-10 Year Olds Ball Size 4 2 x 25 minute 6 v 6 (including goalie) past game time (scrimmage games will be played at a forfeit) 35 x 45 yards (ASA recommends 50 x 80 yards) 7 H x 21 W x 3 D x 7.5 B, Ties will stand Allowed 2 nd throw in if 1 st is foul (must wear goalie jersey given by the official) * Coaches Allowed on Field *Hand ball results in an indirect kick

6 11-12 Year Olds Ball Size 4 (2) 30 Minute halves 8 v 8 (includes goalie) Goal Keeper 45 x 60 yards (ASA recommends 50 x 80 yards) 8 H x 24 W x 3 D x 8.5 B past game time (this includes penalty kicks), Ties will stand second chance * Coaches Allowed on Field *Substituted players will be allowed back in the game

7 13+ Year Olds Ball Size 5 (2) 30 Minute halves 11 v 11 (includes goalie) Goal Keeper 50 Width x 100 Length (yards) to 100 Width x 130 Length 8 H x 24 W x 3 D x 8.5 B past game time (this includes penalty kicks), Ties will stand second chance * Coaches Allowed on Field *Substituted players will be allowed back in the game
