9 What is the Dutch language union? The Dutch language union (de Nederlandse Taalunie) is a treaty organisation in which the Netherlands, Flanders (Belgium) and Suriname (Dutch Guiana) work together on their policies on the Dutch language and literature, education in Dutch and the study of Dutch around the world.

13 History Project from the government of Surinam supported by IDB SLO (national institute for curriculum development) supported Suriname to renew the curriculum - establish a curriculum framework - learning strands for the basic education cycle - teaching and learning materials - implementing activities including professional development and evaluative activities The project started in 2009 untill 2012

Part of the policy of the ministry of education For the community that wants there language to be used and recognized Languages are equal but functionally different Language is important (no language is superior nor inferior) for social and economic equality and equity Language is part of identity

24 Learning strand for multilingualism meertaligheid Onderbouw 4-8 jaar Middenbouw 8-12 jaar Bovenbouw jaar Beheersen alledaagse woorden in het Sranan en Engels en alle op school aanwezige talen. Kunnen deze woorden gebruiken in eenvoudige situaties (jezelf voorstellen, begroeten, tellen, liedjes). Beheersen het Engels voor eenvoudige dialogen: bijvoorbeeld kennismaking waarbij wordt begroet en voorgesteld en waarbij gevraagd wordt wie de ander is waarop een antwoord moet volgen. Vervolg woordenschatopbouw Sranan en Engels en voorkomende talen op school. Voor het Engels is er expliciete aandacht voor het taalsysteem en voor alle taalvaardigheden in eenvoudige alledaagse situaties. Engels: Conversaties in alledaagse situaties kunnen voeren. Intensievere aandacht voor het taalsysteem en alle taalvaardigheden. Spaans: In beperkt aantal alledaagse situaties mondeling kunnen uitdrukken. Schriftelijk een korte tekst kunnen produceren (half A4). Sensitization Sensitization + Initiation English Sensitization + Initiation Spanish + Integration English and Spanish
