Thanks to the success and spirit of our city s athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers, the Leeds Sports Awards continues to go from strength to strength. We re looking forward to spending the 2016 event celebrating the incredible achievements made by our athletes throughout 2015, including an impressive haul of medals for Leeds athletes at the inaugural European Games in Baku and at the 2015 FINA World Aquatics Championships in Russia, along with outstanding team performances from the Leeds Rhinos and Yorkshire Country Cricket Club in their respective events. Next year s event, which returns to the fabulous New Dock Hall for a third consecutive year, will bring together another inspirational group of local sports people and they ll be joined by our VIP guests, city councillors, event sponsors and our sporting and business partners from across Leeds and West Yorkshire. With the Rio Olympic Games just around the corner, Leeds Sports Awards 2016 will once again encapsulate all that is great about our city and its people. 3 CELEBRATING LEEDS SPORTING HEROES FOR OVER A DECADE THE LEEDS SPORTS AWARDS 2016 Following the success of our athletes at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, they have now continued to impress in 2015 at major sporting events such as the inaugural European Games in Baku, alongside the continuing exploits of our city s professional and amateur sports clubs and athletes. It s no surprise that Leeds is recognised as one of the UK s most vibrant sporting cities! The sensational athletes who represented Leeds with such aplomb at these major events helped raise the sporting bar even higher, and they were ably supported by the volunteers and coaches at the grassroots of sport in our city who continue to inspire the next generation of stars. We have also been lucky enough to play host to some major sporting events, including the first ever Tour de Yorkshire, as well as two of the Rugby World Cup games, demonstrating what a major player Leeds has become on the international sporting stage. From elite athletes and teams, like Yorkshire County Cricket Club and Leeds Rhinos, to the raw endeavour and spirit of our champion coaches and volunteers, the Leeds Sports Awards are a true celebration of achievement at every level of sport. Previous winners at the event include; Nicola Adams MBE (Boxing), the Brownlee brothers (Triathlon), Leeds Rhinos (Rugby), Yorkshire County Cricket Club (Cricket), Hannah Cockroft MBE (Athletics), City of Leeds Divers (Diving), amongst many other professional and amateur athletes, volunteers, coaches and more. With the support of our partners the Leeds Sports Awards aims to nurture the next generation of achievers, while rewarding those who ve already excelled.
