5 THE WORLD ENGLISH EXPERIENCE one of our most popular and exciting programmes, the World English Experience is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for school groups from around the world to come to the Uk during Spring break to participate and compete against other schools in an exciting one or two week residential programme. The WEE combines a General English language course, Trinity exam preparation, a series of mental and physical challenges in English and a full British cultural and activity programme. It takes place at some of the most prestigious private boarding schools in the Uk. About us The WEE is run by oxford International Education Group, (formerly ISIS Education). 7 THE PROGRAMME AT A GLANCE I Academic Upon arrival, students sit a written and oral placement test, to ensure that they are correctly placed according to their level. During the World English Experience, students follow our new oxford International Junior syllabus; a well-structured framework for lessons, that focuses on speaking, reading, listening and writing skills. It promotes and increases language fluency, whilst also providing opportunity to improve accuracy. Two-week WEE students take the the Trinity GESE exam while staying with us in the Uk. Students receive Trinity exam preparation as part of their lessons to help them get ready for the exam day. We have developed our own preparation materials which are specifically tailored to the needs of our students. They include detailed information for each grade and exercises to be used in the preparation lessons as well as additional self-study materials for the students. 7

12 Locations Every year, we are lucky to be able to hold the World English Experience in some of the country s top independent boarding schools in the south of England. The campuses are set in beautiful locations and all have first class facilities. Students will stay in single, double, triple and quadruple rooms in male and female boarding houses with shared bathrooms and will receive three delicious meals a day. All of our WEE school campuses provide the ideal setting for the students to experience life in a traditional British boarding school. Please note: additional boarding schools of the same standard may be added, subject to student numbers. 1

13 Culford School Set against the idyllic backdrop of a large lake and 80 acres of beautiful and tranquil landscaped park, 10 minutes from Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, Culford is a traditional British boarding school, founded in 187. The Grade II* listed buildings on the school campus are beautiful and the site has benefitted recently with the refurbishment of their first class sports facilities. 14 Sparsholt College Set in the beautiful Hampshire countryside, Sparsholt College goes back over a hundred years and has become one of the largest land-based colleges in the country. It combines modern, well-equipped and spacious classrooms with a unique rural location amongst the college s own farms. A large, green and secure closed campus, it also has extensive outdoor sports areas and is ideal for younger students. Accommodation: Meals: Facilities: Internet: Airports: laundry: The Quad: There are four houses in The Quad; Steele, Sturgess, Flint and rose. All rooms are twin ensuite at the college. Three meals are included. Packed lunches on excursion days Exciting new sports centre which includes a full size sports hall (the size of four badminton courts). other sports available include basketball, tennis, volleyball and football. A fitness suite is available onsite for group leaders only. Group leaders will need an induction to join the gym, and a small weekly fee will need to be paid. Wifi is available across the campus and is available to group leaders in their accommodation. 15 Clifton College Clifton College successfully combines heritage with modernity. landscaped greenery surrounds the magnificent buildings, and, every quarter hour, the distinctive chime of the College clock can be heard echoing around the South Quad. one of the most cherished buildings is the beautiful Grade II listed Chapel, where generations of pupils have gathered to worship. We also have our own Synagogue, testament to Clifton College s proud Jewish heritage. 16 Royal Hospital School royal Hospital is one of the most beautiful locations for a boarding school to be set. A leading independent co-educational boarding and day school, it owes much of its breath-taking beauty to its spectacular setting: sitting on the banks of the magnificent river Stour in the heart of the beautiful English countryside. Interestingly, royal Hospital is the only school in the country to be allowed to fly the Queen s flag and through its strong links with the royal navy, the children have the privilege of wearing the royal navy uniform. 17 Student Welfare During the World English Experience, the safety, security and wellbeing of all students is extremely important to us at oxford International. From the careful selection of our partner campuses and recruitment of our staff to the academic and cultural programme design and delivery, student welfare is our number one priority We want our students to get as much out of the WEE experience as they can, both academically and culturally and although students will be required to work hard during the programme, it is still crucial that the students have a fun and memorable time with us, whilst giving parents the peace of mind that they are happy and being well looked after. our experienced staff are on site and available hours a day. It is their role to ensure that students settle in, make friends and use English throughout their stay in the Uk. They also accompany and look after students on excursion and meet them at the airport when they arrive. The senior staff on campus will be able to provide you with any support or information that you may need during your stay. Every group will also be supplied with a centre guidebook on arrival which is designed to help answer questions about local area information, laundry facilities, internet connections and religious centres. We also have at least one trained first-aider and doctor on call at the centre. Parents should notify us of any medical conditions in advance of arrival. Upon arrival, students will receive a compulsory induction during which they will receive information about emergency procedures and code of conduct expected of them while they are here. We follow British Council and English Uk guidelines on welfare very carefully. We are also founder members of Young learners English Uk. A special interest group run by English Uk, committed to maintaining high standards for junior courses, with a strong focus on student welfare. 17
