1 ORCHARD VALLEY UNITED CHURCH 130 Cornwallis Ave., New Minas, NS B4N 3M7 Wings Outline of Worship Sunday, October 11, 2015 Welcome & News of the Community Basket of Blessings Music: Come, You Thankful People, Come VU #516 Come, you thankful people, come, raise the song of harvest home! All is safely gathered in, safe before the storms begin; God, our maker, does provide for our needs to be supplied: come to God's own temple, come, raise the song of harvest home! All the world is God's own field, harvests for God's praise to yield; wheat and weeds together sown, here for joy or sorrow grown; first the blade, and then the ear, then the full corn shall appear: Harvest-giver, grant that we wholesome grain and pure may be. 1
2 For our God, one day, shall come, and shall take this harvest home; from the field shall in that day all offences purge away; giving angels charge at last in the fire the weeds to cast; but the fruitful ears to store in the garner evermore. Gathering Words: Come one and all. Give thanks to God. Let all who come find belonging in this place. We have come to meet Jesus. God s blessings are given for us to share. Jesus wants us to love one another. God has blessed us with abundance. God is good. Praise God. Music: How Great Thou Art VU #238 O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder consider all the works thy hand hath made, I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder, thy power throughout the universe displayed. 2
3 When through the woods and forest glades I wander, I hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees; when I look down from lofty mountain grandeur and hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze. But when I think that God, his Son not sparing, sent him to die, I scarce can take it in, that on the cross, my burden gladly bearing, he bled and died to take away my sin. When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation and take me home, what joy shall fill my heart! Then I shall bow in humble adoration and there proclaim, 'My God, how great thou art!' 3
4 Sharing the Story: Matthew 6:25-33 Focus on the Word Music: For The Fruit of All Creation VU #227 For the fruit of all creation, thanks be to God. For the gifts to every nation, thanks be to God. For the ploughing, sowing, reaping, silent growth while we are sleeping, future needs in earth's safekeeping, thanks be to God. In the just reward of labour, God's will is done. In the help we give our neighbour, God's will is done. In our worldwide task of caring for the hungry and despairing, in the harvests we are sharing, God's will is done. For the harvests of the Spirit, thanks be to God. For the good we all inherit, thanks be to God. For the wonders that astound us, for the truths that still confound us, most of all that love has found us, thanks be to God. Prayer in Action 4
5 Affirmation: We have remembered God s blessings. We have given thanks. We will continue to experience and share God s blessings as we journey ahead in our lives. We will remember, and we will respond with our love. May God s Spirit be with us as we go in the name of Christ. We go in peace. Amen. Music: Now Thank We All Our God VU #236 Now thank we all our God, with heart, and hands, and voices, who wondrous things has done, in whom this world rejoices; who from our mother's arms has blessed us on our way with countless gifts of love, and still is ours today. O may this bounteous God through all our life be near us, with ever joyful hearts and blessed peace to cheer us, and keep us strong in grace, and guide us when perplexed, and free us from all ill in this world and the next. 5
6 All praise and thanks to God for all that has been given, the Son, and Spirit blest who dwell in highest heaven, the one eternal God, whom heaven and earth adore; for thus it was, is now, and shall be evermore. 6
Opening Prayers Opening Prayer Opening Prayer Opening Prayer
s Lord, let us not dwell in the past, nor worry about the future. We cannot undo what is done. We cannot foresee what will come. Let us instead dwell in your peace, love and be loved, heal and be healed.
