1 The Settings menu provides subscribers with many options for tailoring Passport DCT, the TV, and the VCR to their needs. 2 ... Using Passport DCT QuickMenu Passport DCT offers the option of accessing and launching special services available from your cable company through its QuickMenu. QuickMenu services are organized into categories, which are listed in the menu s title bar. Though services may vary depending on your cable provider, all QuickMenu configurations feature a Settings menu. Settings menu option are discussed in the following section, About the Settings Menu, page 65. Note: The QuickMenu is not available if a VCR Timer is active or if one of the following is displayed: a third party application, a dialog box, or the Settings menu. To access the QuickMenu 1 From a channel being viewed (full screen broadcast video), the program guide, or channel-specific displays, press the MENU button. If you have a QuickMenu option, the QuickMenu displays. Note: If you do not have the QuickMenu option, you will see the Settings Menu display. Refer to the next section for these options. 2 Use the left or right arrow button to scroll through the list of categories. Use the up or down arrow button to highlight the desired service from the list. Note: When interactive service is selected, the channel displays and the application launches. 3 Press SELECT to choose the highlighted opton. 3 ... About the Settings Menu... About the Settings Menu Passport DCT provides the Settings menu to let you tailor Passport DCT to your needs. The figure below shows the Settings menu. The table below shows all the preferences you can specify in the Settings menu and gives a brief description of each preference. Which preferences are available depends on your cable company and the model of your set-top box. Not all options are available for all set-top boxes. Use one of the following procedures. To access the settings menu if you have a QuickMenu Press the MENU button twice and the Settings menu displays. Note: You can also access the settings menu from the QuickMenu menu display. To access the settings menu if you do not have a service portal Press the MENU button. Getting Help For Preferences in the Settings Menu 1 Press the up or down arrow button to highlight the preference for which you want to display help. 2 Press the HELP or INFO button. A message displays with a description of the setting. In some cases, there is additional help for options. 3 To return to the Settings menu, press the EXIT button. Exiting the Settings Menu Press the EXIT button. Or Press the MENU button again. The Settings menu disappears and you return to the channel you were watching. Setting and Using the Sleep Timer By turning on the sleep timer, you can turn off the set-top box automatically after a selected time interval. You can select from the following intervals: 5 minutes 10 minutes 15 minutes 30 minutes 45 minutes 1 hour 1 hour, 30 minutes 2 hours 2 hours, 30 minutes 3 hours Passport DCT Customer Service Guide 67

Note: If you wish to have the TV turn off automatically with the set-top box, plug the TV into the AC outlet at the rear of the set-top box and set the outlet to turn off and on with the set-top box (refer to Setting Settop AC Outlet Use, page 109). To set the sleep timer 1 Press the MENU button until the Settings menu displays. 2 Press the up or down arrow button to highlight the Sleep preference and press SELECT. The current setting displays. 3 Press the right arrow button to move to the Setting column. A bullet in front of a setting indicates what is currently selected. 4 Press the up or down arrow button to select On. 5 Press the SELECT button to accept the setting. 68 Passport DCT Customer Service Guide

Setting and Using the Sleep Timer... 6 Press the right arrow button to select the amount of time before the set-top box turns off (5 minutes to 3 hours). 7 Press the SELECT button to accept and you see the time remaining. 8 To exit the Settings menu, press the EXIT button. When the time has elapsed, the set-top box turns off. To cancel a sleep timer 1 Press the MENU button until the Settings menu displays. 2 Press the UP or DOWN arrow to highlight the Sleep preference and press SELECT. The current setting displays. 8 ... 3 Press the right arrow button to move to the Setting column. A bullet in front of a setting indicates what is currently selected. 4 Press the up or down arrow button to highlight Off. 5 Press the SELECT button to accept the setting. The HR:MIN column shows Not In Use. 6 Press the MENU button to return to the current channel. The sleep timer is now canceled. Setting and Using the Alarm Set this recurring timer to power on and/or power off the set-top box automatically at a regular time. You can also select when this will occur: once, daily, Monday through Friday, or Saturday and Sunday. Additionally, you can select the channel that will display when the set-top box turns on. Once you have set the alarm, the set-top box automatically turns on to the specified channel and remains on until either you turn it off or it turns off automatically at the designated stop time. Note: If you wish to have the TV turn on and off automatically with the set-top box, plug the TV power cord into the AC outlet at the rear of the set-top box and set the outlet to turn off and on with the set-top box (refer to Setting Settop AC Outlet Use, page 109). 70 Passport DCT Customer Service Guide

9 ... Setting and Using the Alarm... To set the alarm 1 Press the MENU button until the Settings menu displays. 2 Press the up or down arrow button to highlight the Alarm preference. The current setting displays. 3 Press the right arrow button to move to the Settings column. A bullet in front of a setting indicates what is currently selected. 4 Press the up or down arrow button to highlight On. 5 Press the SELECT button to accept the setting. 6 Press the right arrow button to move to the alarm setup box. Using the up and down arrow buttons, highlight your desired occurrence (Once, Daily, M-F, or Sa-Su). 8 Press the SELECT button to accept your selection and the Start column highlights. 9 Use the up or down arrow or the number buttons to highlight the hour to power on the set-top box and press the SELECT button. The minutes column highlights. Note: If you select the --: option, the set-top box is not set to turn on automatically. partial display shown 10 Use the up or down arrow or number buttons to highlight the desired minutes (in increments of ten minutes) and press the SELECT button. 11 ... Setting and Using the Alarm Use the up or down arrow or the number buttons to highlight the desired number of minutes (0-9) and press the SELECT button. The am/pm column displays. partial display shown 12 Use the up or down arrow button to select am or pm and press the SELECT button. The Stop column displays. 13 Repeat steps 9 through 12 to set the alarm time to power off the set-top box. Press the SELECT button to accept each selection.the Preference column highlights and your time and channel settings display. Note: If you select the --: option, there is no stop time. This means that the set-top box turns on at the time you have set, but it won t automatically shut down. 14 To exit, press the EXIT button. 12 ... To cancel the Alarm 1 Press the MENU button until the Settings menu displays. 2 Press the up or down arrow button to highlight the Alarm preference. The current setting displays. 3 Press the right arrow button to move to the Setting column. A bullet in front of a setting indicates what is currently selected. 4 Press the up or down arrow button to highlight Off. 5 Press the SELECT button to accept the setting. The Alarm displays Off. 6 Press the EXIT button to return to the current channel. The alarm is now canceled. Adding and Removing Channels From the Favorite Channels List You can use the Settings menu to set up favorite channels. When a channel is set up as a favorite channel, you can use the FAV button to select the channel. If you have set up multiple favorite channels, pressing the FAV button repeatedly displays one favorite channel to the next. To set up favorite channels, you use the Favorite Channels preference. You can add and delete channels as shown in the procedures below. 74 Passport DCT Customer Service Guide

Adding Channels to the Favorite Channels List 1 Press the MENU button until the Settings menu displays. 2 Press the up or down arrow button to highlight the Favorite Channels preference. The current number of favorite channels and the channel name are displayed if favorite channels are specified; otherwise the preference shows 0 Favorites Set. 3 Press the right arrow button to move to the Channels column. 4 Press the up or down arrow button to highlight the number and name of the channel you want to make a favorite. You can also use the numeric keypad to highlight a channel number. 5 Press the SELECT button. A star symbol appears next to the channel in the Channels column, and the channel number is added to the Current Favorites list. 6 To add another channel as a favorite, repeat steps 4 and 5. 7 When finished, press the left arrow button. You return to the Preference column. 8 To exit the Settings menu, press the EXIT button. Passport DCT Customer Service Guide 75

14 ... Removing Channels From the Favorite Channels List The following procedure describes how you delete favorite channels with the Favorite Channels preference in the Settings menu. To remove channels from the Favorite Channels List 1 Press the MENU button until the Settings menu displays. 2 Press the up or down arrow button to highlight the Favorite Channels preference. The current number of favorite channels and the channel numbers are displayed if favorite channels are specified. 3 Press the right arrow button to move to the Channels column. Favorite channels are marked by a star symbol. 4 Select what you want to delete: To delete an individual channel, press the up or down arrow button to highlight the channel number and name of the channel you want to delete from the Current Favorites list. Go to the next step. To delete all currently set favorites, select the Clear All option. Go to step 7. 5 Press the SELECT button. The star symbol next to the channel in the Channels column disappears, and the channel name disappears from the Current Favorites list. 6 To delete more channels from the Current Favorites list, repeat steps 4 and 5. 7 When finished, press the left arrow button. You return to the Preference column. 8 To exit the Settings menu, press the EXIT button. 76 Passport DCT Customer Service Guide

15 ... Adding and Removing Channels From the Skipped Channels List... Adding and Removing Channels From the Skipped Channels List You can use the Settings menu to set up skipped channels. When a channel is set up as a skipped channel, it is skipped when you channel up and down. To specify which channels you want to skip, use the Skipped Channels preference. You can delete and add channels as shown in the procedures below. Note: You can still select skipped channels for viewing by entering the channel number or by selecting the channel from the program guide. To add Channels to the Skipped Channels List 1 Press the MENU button until the Settings menu displays. 2 Press the up or down arrow button to highlight the Skipped Channels preference. The current number of skipped channels and the channel names are displayed if skipped channels are specified; otherwise the preference shows 0 Skipped Channels. 3 Press the right arrow button to move to the Channels column. 4 Press the up or down arrow button to highlight the number and name of the channel you want to skip. You can also use the numeric keypad to select and highlight a channel number. Passport DCT Customer Service Guide 77

A check symbol appears next to the channel in the Channels column, and the channel number is added to the Skipped Channels list. 6 To add another channel, repeat steps 4 and 5. 7 When finished, press the left arrow button. You return to the Preference column. 8 To exit the Settings menu, press the EXIT button. Removing Channels From the Skipped Channels List The procedure below describes how you remove skipped channels with the Skipped Channels preference in the Settings menu. To remove channels from the skipped channels list 1 Press the MENU button until the Settings menu displays. 2 Press the up or down arrow button to highlight the Skipped Channels preference. The current number of skipped channels and the channel names are displayed if skipped channels are specified. 3 Press the right arrow button to move to the Channels column. 78 Passport DCT Customer Service Guide

Reviewing, Modifying, and Canceling Timers... 4 Select what you want to remove: To remove an individual channel, press the up or down arrow button to highlight the number and name of the channel you want to remove from the Skipped Channels list. Currently selected channels are marked by a check symbol. You can also use the numeric keypad to select and highlight a channel number. Go to the next step. To remove all currently set skipped channels, select the Clear All option. Go to step 7. 5 Press the SELECT button. The check symbol next to the channel in the Channels column disappears, and the channel number disappears from the Skipped Channels list. 6 To remove more channels from the Skipped Channels list, repeat steps 4 and 5. 7 When finished, press the left arrow button. You return to the Preference column. 8 To exit the Settings menu, press the EXIT button. Reviewing, Modifying, and Canceling Timers With Passport DCT, you can set a timer from the program guide. When you purchase a PPV program, a timer is also set automatically. Passport DCT then reminds you when the program is about to start. The display below shows an example of a reminder message: The Timer Review preference in the Settings menu permits you to review, modify or cancel current or future timers (in most cases). Note that when you cancel a timer for a PPV program, you also cancel the purchase. Note: If you wish to review your past purchases, use the Purchase Review option rather than the Timer Review option. 18 ... The status of your timer is shown in the last column of the Timer Review display. You may change the status; the table below shows you the possible status/change options: Status Active (Suspend) Resume Means Your timer is active. Your timer is suspended; it will not activate at the designated time, but the timer remains on the list and can be resumed with minimal effort. Select this status if you wish to retain the timer, but do not wish to have it activate. (To resume it, select Resume.) Displays if the timer is in suspend status. Select this status to resume a suspended timer. When you have completed this change successfully, the status displays active. The following 3 Status options do not show when the list first displays. These are actions that you can perform on a timer to modify its status or recurrence. Clear Cancel Reset Select this status when you wish to cancel a non-ppv timer. If you select this option and you have set recurring timers, all of the timers are cleared. Once you have cleared a timer, it disappears from the list completely. Select this status if you wish to cancel a PPV purchase. If you select this option (and the system will permit the purchase to be canceled), it is canceled. The program disappears from the list completely. Displays for non-ppv type timers only. Select this status/option to change the parameters of your timer to one of the following: This Instance, Daily, Weekly, M-F, Sa-Sun. Note: You can also modify or cancel a timer from the program guide. For information, refer to Modifying or Clearing Timers on page 50. For PPV timers, you can also use the Purchase Review preference. This preference lets you review both pending and past purchases, and lets you cancel purchases (as long as they are within the cancel window). The Timer Review preference only lists pending purchases, not past. To review, modify or cancel (clear) timers 1 Press the MENU button until the Settings menu displays. 2 Press the up or down arrow button to highlight the Timer Review preference to review or cancel timers. The number of scheduled timers displays. 3 Press the right arrow button to view the timer list. For each timer, the Summary column shows the type of recurrence, the show time, the channel call letter, the type of timer and its status. 4 Do one of the following: If you just want to review the list of timers and no further action is required, go to Step 7. If you wish to change a status of a timer, use the up or down arrow button to highlight the timer. Passport DCT Customer Service Guide 81

20 ... 5 To change your timer status, use the right or left arrow button to select the type of change you desire: Resume: to resume a timer that has been suspended. Suspend: to put the timer in suspend status. Clear: to clear a non-ppv timer and remove it from the list (only displays on non-ppv programs). Cancel: to cancel a PPV program and remove it from the list (only displays on PPV programs). Reset (non-ppv programs only): to change the instance of recurrence. 6 Press the up or down arrow button and one of the following occurs: Note: If you change the status and the timer falls under the parental control parameters, at one point in the procedure you are asked to put in your parental control PIN. Enter the 4-digit PIN. If you have elected to resume the timer, the active status for that timer displays. Note:If you change a status and it overlaps another timer, at one point you see a display which gives you the opportunity to resolve the overlap or let Passport DCT select the resolution. For additional information overlaps, refer to Resolving Timer Overlaps and Issues on page 43. If you have elected to suspend the timer and it is a, - non-ppv, the suspend symbol displays. - PPV timer that can be suspended, you see a confirmation display, asking you to press the A button to continue. - PPV timer that cannot be suspended or canceled, press the left arrow button to go back to the previous display. 21 ... Retrieving and Managing Your Messages... If you have elected to clear (cancel) the timer and it is one of the following: - non-ppv timer, the entry disappears from the display. - PPV timer that can be canceled, you see the following message. Press the A button to accept and the entry disappears from the display. - PPV timer that cannot be deleted, you see the following message. Follow the instructions on the display. For additional information, refer to Reviewing and Canceling PPV Purchases on page 151. If you elected to reset the timer, you see the following display. Select the change by using the right or left arrow button and press the A button to accept the change. 7 When you are done, press the C button. You return to the Preference column. 8 To exit the Settings menu, press the EXIT button. Retrieving and Managing Your Messages From time to time, your cable company may wish to send you a message. You can retrieve then save or delete a message in the Settings menu. Additionally, you can read old messages that have been saved. Messages will remain in the Message preference until they are deleted or they expire (if there is a predetermined expiration date). Passport DCT Customer Service Guide 83

22 ... When a message comes in, a notification will display on the screen for a few seconds. Additionally, the channel banner and extended channel banner will display the Message Reminder icon. To access messages in the Settings menu 1 Press the MENU button until the Settings menu displays. 2 Press the up or down arrow button to highlight the Messages preference. 3 Press the right arrow button to move to the Messages column. 4 Press the up or down arrow button to highlight the desired message. 5 Press the SELECT or right arrow button to access the message. 23 ... Retrieving and Managing Your Messages... 6 When you have finished reviewing, you can either delete or save the message: To delete a message, press A button When dialog appears, press A. The deletion confirmation dialog appears. To save a message, press C. Setting the Parental Control Preferences The parental control preferences are discussed in detail in Chapter 5, Using Parental Control on page 113. The table below lists each parental control preference and where you can find the corresponding information. 24 ... Selecting a Language You can use the Language preference in the Settings menu to select English or Spanish for both the Passport DCT display and the program audio. Selecting a Display Language You can select to view the menus and help displays in Spanish. To do this, use the Language Display option. Notes: - Changing the language option only affects the DCT display and not the actual data. - If there is a power loss, it takes a couple of minutes to reload the Spanish language. To select the display language 1 Press the MENU button. The Settings menu displays. 2 Press the up or down arrow button to highlight the Language preference. 3 Press the right arrow button to move to the Options column. 4 Press the up or down arrow button to highlight the Display option. 5 Press the right arrow button. The setting column displays the language options; the currently selected setting has a bullet in front of it. 6 Press the up or down arrow button to highlight the desired language for your set-top display. 86 Passport DCT Customer Service Guide

The option you selected now has a bullet in front of it. 8 Press the left arrow button and your language selection displays. 9 To exit the settings menu, press the EXIT button. Setting the Audio Language You can select to hear an alternate audio track in Spanish on digital channels when available. To do this you use the Language preference audio option. To select an audio language 1 Press the MENU button. The Settings menu displays. 2 Press the up or down arrow button to highlight the Language preference. 3 Press the right arrow button to move to the Option column. 4 Press the up or down arrow button to highlight the Audio option. 26 ... 5 Press the right arrow button. The Setting column displays the Language, Audio options; the currently selected setting has a bullet in front of it. 6 Press the up or down arrow button to highlight the desired language. 7 Press the SELECT button to accept the setting. The option you selected now has a bullet in front of it. 8 Press the left arrow button and your language selection displays. The alternate audio track now plays on digital channels where such a broadcast is available. 9 To exit the Settings menu, press the EXIT button. 88 Passport DCT Customer Service Guide

27 ... Selecting a Language... Setting the Subtitle Option To select Subtitles 1 Press the MENU button. The Settings menu displays. 2 Press the up or down arrow button to highlight the Language preference. 3 Press the right arrow button to move to the Option column. 4 Press the down arrow button to highlight Subtitle. 5 Press the right arrow button to move to SETTING 6 Press the up or down arrow button to highlight the desired language. 28 ... To select Subtitles 7 Press the SELECT button to accept the setting. The option you selected now has a bullet in front of it. 8 To exit the Settings menu, press the EXIT button. Setting Closed Captions Passport DCT allows you to customize your set-top box closed caption settings. The Closed Captions settings allow you to enable/disable the display closed captions, select an analog or digital closed captions service, and customize the appearance of digital closed captions. Note: The position/appearance of the Closed Captions preference in the Settings Menu is dependent upon the configurations available on the set-top boxes. To set Closed Captions options 1 Press the MENU button until the Settings menu displays. 2 Press the up or down arrow button to highlight the Closed Captions preference. Note: The current state of the closed captions option should be displayed in the right column. 90 Passport DCT Customer Service Guide

29 ... Setting Closed Captions... 3 Press the right arrow button to move to the Option column. This displays the options for the Closed Captions preference. Note: You can also view and change other options at this point. 4 To change an option, use the up or down arrow button to highlight the option and press SELECT. In this example, text style is the desired option. 5 The Settings column is displayed. Use the up or down arrow button to highlight the desired setting and press SELECT. 30 ... 6 The options column displays with the new selected option shown. 7 You can now select another option to customize. If you do, repeat step 4 and step 6 until you have selected all the custom options you desire. 8 To exit the Settings menu, press the EXIT button. Setting Output Formats and Aspect Ratio Passport DCT is set up to output digital video in one of five formats: 1080i, 720p, 480p Wide, 480p Std or 480i. Refer to your device manual to ascertain which format to select. The digital video coming in to the set-top box may vary between wide screen (16:9) and standard screen (4:3). To display the program on your television in a fashion you desire, the set-top box compensates for these differences. You can set the type of aspect ratio you desire in two ways: when you set the output format or while you are viewing a program (from the Output Format Options Ribbon). The first way (while setting the output format) is covered in the following procedure. Refer to Output Format Options Ribbon on page 96 for information on the other method. To set the output format and aspect ratio Note: If you are going to set the aspect ratio during this procedure and are unsure of the option you desire, it is recommended that you first refer to Output Format Option on page 95 to help you decide. 1 Press the MENU button until the Settings menu displays. 92 Passport DCT Customer Service Guide

31 ... Setting Output Formats and Aspect Ratio... 2 Use the up or down arrow button to highlight the Output Formats preference. 3 Press the right arrow button to move to the Option column. This displays the formats for the Output Formats preference. 4 Press the up or down arrow button to highlight the desired format. Note: Refer to your television manual to find which option you should select. 5 Do one of the following: To accept the format and the aspect ratio defaults, proceed to step 8. To accept the format and to customize the aspect ratio, press the right arrow button. Proceed to the next step. 6 Decide on one of the following options. Examples of all the options are shown in the section that follows this procedure. If the output format is 480p Std or 480i, select the way your standard television will display widescreen (16:9) programming. Output Format Option The aspect ratio is designed to help you select the way your television picture displays when you are watching a program in a different format. For example, the way a standard television displays a widescreen program or the way a widescreen program displays a standard program. You can set the aspect ratio from the Settings Menu (in the Output Formats Preference) or using the Output Format Options Ribbon. The following examples will help you decide which option to select. When selecting an aspect ratio for a standard 480P Std or 480i television, you have the following options: Zoom and Letterbox. The way it looks on a widescreen television The way it looks on a standard 480i television Letterbox 16:9 Picture (the default) Zoom 16:9 Picture When selecting an Output Format option for a 1080i, 720p or 480p (widescreen) television, you have the following options: Sidebar 4:3 Image, Stretch 4:3 Image, Preserve 4:3 Image- 480p, or Keep 4:3 Image - 480p, Keep 4:3 Image - 480i. The Preserve options cause the set-top box to output a 480 format picture to the television and let the television convert it as it is designed. Three possible options are shown; there may be others. Setting Settop Audio Note: If you have a DCT 2500 set-top box, you don't have the options for Loop-Through and Dynamic Range. You can specify audio preferences with the following options: Setting the Volume Level, page 97 Setting the Analog Channel Audio, page 99 Setting the Digital Channel Audio, page 101 Setting the Loop-Through, page 103 Setting the Dynamic Range, page 105 Setting the Volume Level Passport DCT allows you to set the cable set-top box s volume to variable or to a fixed level (approximately 68-69% of the maximum volume) which is the optimum set-top box audio output level. If you set the volume to a fixed level and press the + or - VOL button, the volume level is automatically set to variable from then on. With a VCR Timer-initiated recording, the set-top box reverts to the fixed setting for the duration of the recording. Passport DCT Customer Service Guide 97

The first time you use your TV volume, use the following procedure to set the balance between your devices. 1 Using the steps in the previous procedure, access the Settings menu and adjust the Volume Level to Fixed (Optimum). 2 Set the remote control to set your volume via the TV. Note: When you choose to program the remote control VOL button for the TV volume, the only way you can change the set-top box s output volume level is through the Audio Level preference in the Settings menu or by pressing the VOL button on the set-top box front panel. For information about the Audio Level preference in the Settings menu, refer to Setting the Volume Level on page 97. If you do not have a receiver that can decode PCM (Pulse Code Modulation), use the Dolby Digital option. Use of the digital output setting requires the appropriate SPDIF hardware: DCT 2000 with option L with the appropriate connectors. All newer models of DCT2000 have digital audio. Without this, Not Available: displays beside the setting, and entry is not possible. Setting the Loop-Through To enjoy the benefits of a home entertainment system, loop-through should be enabled on your set-top box (available on models 1000, 1200, 2000 and 5100 series). Loop-through manages the set-top box s baseband audio pass-through capability. When enabled and the set-top box is turned on, audio signals are processed by the cable system and sent along to the receiver. When enabled and the set-top box is turned off, audio signals can be received from an external auxiliary source (such as a CD-player) and passed through the set-top box to the receiver. Note: You need to be sure that the proper baseband cabling is in place. To specify the loop-through 1 Press the MENU button until the Settings menu displays. 2 Press the up or down arrow button to highlight the Audio preference. 3 Press the right arrow button to move to the Option column. 43 ... Setting Settop Audio... Setting the Dynamic Range When you have both analog and digital channels, you may notice volume variances between these two types of channels. The Dynamic Range option in the Audio preference lets you specify compression for digital channels to avoid these volume variances; it alters the audio spectrum. Compression limits the highs and lows while boosting the volume slightly or dramatically. You have the option of light, heavy or no compression: No Compression: Plays the entire range Light Compression: Slightly boosts quiet programming Heavy Compression: Dramatically boosts the audio Note: The ability to change this option is dependant on the cable company. You may or may not see this option. To specify dynamic range 1 Press the MENU button until the Settings menu displays. 2 Use the up or down arrow button to highlight the Audio preference. 3 Press the right arrow button to move to the Option column.
