1 OFFICIAL PROGRAM 8.1 Provide a formal undertaking from the Bid Committee that the Games of the XXXth Olympiad in 2012 will be organized according to the program that is to be approved by the USOC, and if successful, the IOC by the end of The original document must be given to the USOC. The Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee (BASOC), the official Bid Committee for the city of San Francisco by resolution of the Board of Supervisors of the City and County of San Francisco, formally undertakes to organize the Games of the XXX Olympiad in 2012 according to the program that is approved by the USOC and, if successful, by the IOC. The original letter documenting this undertaking is provided in Theme 19 Guarantees. 8.2 Give the exact dates proposed for the Olympic Games, and your reasons for this choice. The dates we have selected for the 2012 Olympic Games are from July 27, 2012 through August 12, 2012 (17 days). We have selected these dates for several reasons, but the most important is that the IOC mandated in their most recent Bid Requirements for the 20 Olympic Games that the Olympic Games be organized during the last week in July and the first week in August. Because the Olympic Games traditionally start with the Opening Ceremonies on a Friday evening, we have chosen Friday, July 27. Equally important for hosting the Olympic Games, the weather in the San Francisco Bay Area during this period is ideal for athletic competition. Theme 5 Meteorological and Environmental Conditions states that the average maximum temperatures and the average temperatures throughout the day are temperate and comfortable. The average maximum temperature in San Francisco is 72 F during this period over the past 30 years, and the average maximum temperature in San Jose for the same span is 75 F, with the hottest time of the day approaching only 80 F on average. In terms of rainfall, the chances of rain during the period are statistically nil in the San Francisco Bay Area. For the days established for the XXX Olympiad over the 30-year period from 1970 to 2000, rain was recorded on only two days (in minute quantities). These ideal weather conditions will permit athletes to perform at their best without fear of high temperatures or inclement weather becoming a factor. Finally, this period provides an excellent opportunity for the maximum number of guests from around the United States and the world to travel to the San Francisco Bay Area during their summer holidays and for the children of the region (and indeed the world) to attend. 8.3 Provide a declaration from the relevant authorities confirming that no other important national or international meeting or event will be taking place in the host city itself, in the vicinity of the host city, or at other competition sites during the Olympic Games, or for two weeks immediately before or after the scheduled start/closing dates of the Olympic Games. The original document(s) must be given to the USOC. Both the Mayor of San Francisco and the Executive Director of the Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee have provided declarations that no other important national or SAN FRANCISCO

2 international meeting or event will take place in the San Francisco Bay Area, in the vicinity of the San Francisco Bay Area, or at other competition sites during the 2012 Olympic Games or for two weeks immediately before or after the scheduled start/closing dates of the Olympic Games. The original documents are provided in Theme 19 Guarantees. 8.4 General Schedule Prepare a simple table indicating: Days of competition (sport/discipline) Finals (by sport/discipline) Total gold medals awarded each day Opening and Closing Ceremonies Table 8.4 indicates the proposed Official Program for the 2012 Olympic Games in the San Francisco Bay Area, including days of competition, finals by sport and discipline, total medals awarded each day and by each sport each day, as well as the dates for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. 4 8.5 Indicate whether you have obtained the provisional agreement of all the NGBs concerned regarding the period chosen to hold the Olympic Games. The original copies of the NGBs confirmation must be given to the USOC. Table 8.5 shows that BASOC has obtained provisional agreements from all the NGBs concerned regarding the period chosen to hold the 2012 Olympic Games and for the specific schedules that BASOC has developed for each sport and each discipline. 6 PARALYMPIC GAMES Give the exact dates proposed. The exact dates for the 2012 Paralympic Games in the San Francisco Bay Area proposed are from Friday, August 17, 2012 through Tuesday, August 28, 2012 (11 days) Indicate whether the Paralympic Games will be organized by the OCOG, or by another organization. The Paralympic Games will be organized by the OCOG. BASOC has organized an advisory committee led by experts in Paralympic issues and by Paralympians. The advisory board has adopted the following list of items for planning the 2012 Paralympic Games. Integration We will consider integration as a strategic position and a concept to advance, and would like to maximize opportunities for integration of Paralympic competition with Olympic competition. Venues We will use as many Olympic venues for Paralympic competition as possible, recognizing that some are not appropriate or may not be available for such a long duration. Facilities We will maximize opportunities to achieve Universal Design in construction projects, going beyond ADA. Housing We will use the Olympic Village as the Paralympic Village, augmenting as needed. Transportation We will organize venues in such a manner that transportation times are minimal, and we will commit to developing transportation solutions that are state of the art wherever possible. Promotion We will promote the Paralympic athletes and focus on their athletic achievements. Management The management team of the Paralympic Games will be part of the management team of the Olympic Games. Finance The Paralympic Games will be funded as a world-class competition. Scientific Congress We will organize a sports-science congress for Paralympic sport, focusing on performance. SAN FRANCISCO
